Bot or not? a case study on bot recognition from web session logs

This work reports on a study of web usage logs to verify whether it is possible to achieve good recognition rates in the task of distinguishing between human users and automated bots using computational intelligence techniques. Two problem statements are given, offline (for completed sessions) and on-line (for sequences of individual HTTP requests). The former is solved with several standard computational intelligence tools. For the second, a learning version of Wald’s sequential probability ratio test is used.

International audience; Serious games present a promising approach to training and learning. The player is engaged in a virtual environment for a purpose beyond pure entertainment, all while having fun. Assessment of Social Services’ Disaster Risk Management: Case Finland

Local actors are crucial in disaster risk management; thus, their capacities should be assessed periodically. In this study, local social services’ preparedness plans were assessed using Emergency Management Program Measurement and quantitative document analysis. The specific aim was to study how social service areas of various sizes were prepared for disasters in Finland. The results showed that disaster risk management capacity varied significantly between large and small service areas. The collaborative consistent vehicle routing problem with workload balance

Abstract The rising competition in the logistics sector forces companies to be more economically efficient. One of the major sources of inefficiency is the incomplete usage of available resources, such as vehicles’ capacities. Mechanism that allow to better exploit such resources by enabling carrier collaborations are on the rise. A privacy enhanced device access protocol for an IoT context

In this paper, we present the case for a device authentication protocol that authenticates a device/service class rather than an individual device. The devices in question are providing services available to the public. The proposed protocol is an online protocol, and it uses a pseudo-random temporary identity scheme to provide user privacy. This allows the Internet-of-Things device to have full assurance of the user, with respect to the request service, while permitting the user to remain anonymous with respect to the device. The user can then enjoy identity and location privacy in addition to untraceability with respect to device access. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Explaining non-adoption of electronic government services by citizens. A study among non-users of public e-services in Latvia

This paper analyses citizen motives for not using electronic government services. Using qualitative interviews among users of Citizens´ Service Centers in Latvia, this paper analyses the motives of citizens not to use electronic government services but to rely on non-electronic equivalents or on in-person assistance. It expands the literature on e-commerce and e-government through an explicit focus on non-adoption rather than adoption. Findings show a higher than expected importance of hardware and internet availability, as well convenience factors as important reasons for non-adoption. Practitioners and researchers, however, lack understanding of which organization mechanisms effectively contribute to IS organizations’ innovation practices.
