Vibrational spectral studies of methyl 3-(4-methoxyphenyl)prop-2-enoate, a new organic non-linear optic crystal

2005

Single crystals of methyl 3-(4-methoxyphenyl)prop-2-enoate were grown by the slow evaporation technique and vibrational spectral analysis was carried out using near-IR Fourier transform Raman and Fourier transform IR spectroscopy. Ab initio quantum computations were also performed at the HF/6–311G (d,p) level to derive the equilibrium geometry, vibrational wavenumbers and intensities and first hyperpolarizability. The large NLO efficiency predicted for the first time in this new class of compounds was confirmed by powder efficiency experiments. Hartree–Fock calculations reveal that the endocyclic angle at the junction of the propeonate group and the phenyl ring is decreased from 120° by 2.5…

Fourier-transform spectroscopy of (4)1Σ+→A 1Σ+−b 3Π,A 1Σ+−b 3Π →X1Σ+, and (1)3Δ1→bΠ0±3 transitions in KCs and deperturbation treatment ofA 1Σ+andb 3Π…

2013

High resolution Fourier-transform spectroscopy data of term values in the spin-orbit (SO) coupled first excited A 1Σ+ and b 3Π states in KCs were obtained from (4)1Σ+ → A 1Σ+ − b 3Π, A 1Σ+ − b 3Π → X1Σ+, and (1)3Δ1→bΠ0±3 spectra of laser-induced fluorescence (LIF). About 3000 new rovibronic term values of the A 1Σ+ and b3ΠΩ states were obtained with an uncertainty about 0.01 cm−1 and added to the previously obtained 3439 term values in Kruzins et al. [Phys. Rev. A 81, 042509 (2010)] and 30 term values of the b3Π0+ state levels below the A 1Σ+ state in Tamanis et al. [Phys. Rev. A 82, 032506 (2010)]. The data field was extended considerably, going down to vibrational level vb = 0 and up in e…

Self-assembly in surfactant-based liquid mixtures: Bis(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid/bis(2-ethylhexyl)amine systems

2010

Surfactant-based liquid mixtures constitute an interesting class of nanostructured materials with promising potential in specialized applications. Here, structural and conductometric properties of liquid mixtures composed of bis(2-ethylhexyl)amine (BEEA) and bis(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid (HDEHP) have been thoroughly investigated with the aim to correlate structural features with system charge transport capability. The evolution of self-assembled local nanostructures with system composition has been investigated by FT-IR and XRD while the conductometric properties were probed by conventional AC complex impedance. Both pure components exhibit nano-segregation due to their amphiphilic natur…

Determination of hexacelsian by infrared spectroscopy.

1984

Hexacelsian has been determined by infrared spectroscopy with KBr discs and K(4)Fe(CN)(6) as internal standard. A KBr particle size of40 mum gave better homogenization of the sample-KBr mixture than a particle size in the 40-70 mum range. For determinations of hexacelsian in synthetic samples containing amorphous phase or celsian, calibration curves were constructed. A least-squares fit yielded correlation coefficients of 0.998 and 0.997.

Tansy fruit mediated greener synthesis of silver and gold nanoparticles

2010

Abstract In this paper we have reported the green synthesis of silver (AgNPs) and gold (AuNPs) nanoparticles by reduction of silver nitrate and chloroauric acid solutions, respectively, using fruit extract of Tanacetum vulgare ; commonly found plant in Finland. The process for the synthesis of AgNPs and AuNPs is rapid, novel and ecofriendly. Formation of the AgNPs and AuNPs were confirmed by surface plasmon spectra using UV–Vis spectrophotometer and absorbance peaks at 452 and 546 nm. Different tansy fruit extract concentration (TFE), silver and gold ion concentration, temperature and contact times were experimented in the synthesis of AgNPs and AuNPs. The properties of prepared nanoparticl…

Vibrations of a single adsorbed organic molecule: anharmonicity matters!

2010

Vibrational spectroscopy is a powerful tool to identify molecules and to characterise their chemical state. Inelastic electron tunnelling spectroscopy (IETS) combined with scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) allows the application of vibrational analysis to a single molecule. Up to now, IETS was restricted to small species due to the complexity of vibration spectra for larger molecules. We extend the horizon of IETS for both experiment and theory by measuring the STM-IETS spectra of mercaptopyridine adsorbed on the (111) surface of gold and comparing it to theoretical spectra. Such complex spectra with more than 20 lines can be reliably determined and computed leading to completely new ins…

Analytical Study of a Resinous Material Used as Sealing in Ancient Pottery Found in an Archaeological Site by Thermally Assisted Hydrolysis Methylati…

2009

Abstract A resin sample was found in the archaeological site of Lixus (Morocco), belonging to the second century BC. The resinous material was found inside an amphora containing iron remains used in the plug as sealing material to hermetically close the pottery. The resinous sample was studied by several analytical techniques, as thermally assisted hydrolysis and methylation–gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (THM–GC–MS), Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and light microscopy. The material was identified as a Pinaceae resin. Therefore, a modern pine resin was also analyzed to consider the influence of aging in the archaeological sample. The ancient material was found not t…

The Reduction Pathway of End-on Coordinated Dinitrogen. I. Vibrational Spectra of Mo/W−N2, −NNH, and −NNH2 Complexes and Quantum Chemistry Assisted N…

1999

Infrared and Raman spectra of [M(N(2))(2)(dppe)(2)] (M = W, Mo) and the two protonated derivatives [WF(NNH)(dppe)(2)] and [WF(NNH(2))(dppe)(2)](+) (dppe = 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane) are presented. Using isotope substituted compounds ((15)N and D) the vibrations of the Y-M-N(2)H(x)() (x = 0, 1, 2; Y = N(2), F) central unit are identified, in particular the M-N and N-N stretching modes. In case of the monoprotonated systems, an equilibrium between metal- and nitrogen-protonated species exists that is clearly detectable in the IR spectra. Making use of theoretical force fields, a quantum chemistry assisted normal coordinate analysis (QCA-NCA) is performed for all three tungsten systems …

Thermal oxidative process in extra-virgin olive oils studied by FTIR, rheology and time-resolved luminescence

2011

Abstract With the aim to characterise the antioxidant properties of different extra-virgin olive oils and to understand in more detail the mechanisms of oil degradation, we have made an experimental study on thermal induced oxidative processes of extra-virgin olive oils by using different techniques: Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, rheology and time-resolved luminescence. The oxidation process was followed at three different heating temperatures (30, 60 and 90 °C) as a function of time up to 35 days. Thermal treatment induced changes in the FTIR spectra in the wavenumbers region 3100–3600 cm −1 : in particular, the absorption profiles show an initial formation of hydroperoxi…

Clean method for the simultaneous determination of propyphenazone and caffeine in pharmaceuticals by flow injection Fourier transform infrared spectr…

1997

A procedure is proposed for the simultaneous FTIR determination of propyphenazone (PFZ) and caffeine (CAF) in pharmaceuticals. The method involves the dissolution of the active principles in CHCl 3 , followed by filtration of sample solutions to remove the excipients. PFZ is then determined by absorbance measurements at 1595 cm - 1 , using a baseline established between 2000 and 890 cm - 1 , and CAF by using the first-derivative values at 1712 cm - 1 , using solutions of PFZ and CAF for external calibration. The method was applied in both the stopped-flow and flow-injection modes, providing precise and accurate results for the analysis of real samples. The incorporation of a distillation un…
