Association between reduced bronchodilatory effect of deep inspiration and loss of alveolar attachments.

Abstract Background We have previously shown that the bronchodilatory effect of deep inspiration is attenuated in individuals with COPD. This study was designed to investigate whether the impairment in this effect is associated with loss of alveolar attachments. Chronic burden of near-roadway traffic pollution in 10 European cities (APHEKOM network).

AD; International audience; Recent epidemiological research suggests that near road traffic-related pollution may cause chronic disease, as well as exacerbate related pathologies, implying that the entire “chronic disease progression” should be attributed to air pollution, no matter what the proximate cause was. We estimated the burden of childhood asthma attributable to air pollution in 10 European cities by calculating the number of cases of 1) asthma caused by near road traffic-related pollution, and 2) acute asthma events related to urban air pollution levels. Although bronchodilators are the cornerstone in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) therapy, the treatment with a single-agent bronchodilator may not provide adequate symptoms control in COPD. Deep inspiration-induced bronchoprotection is stronger than bronchodilation

We have previously shown that in healthy subjects, deep inspiration (DI) has not only a bronchodilatory but also a bronchoprotective effect that is absent in asthmatic subjects. We conducted the study reported here to test the hypothesis that the bronchoprotective effect is stronger than the bronchodilatory effect, and to determine the extent to which these two effects are related. Physicochemical compatibility and stability of nebulizable drug admixtures containing Dornase alfa and tobramycin.

The objective of this in-vitro study was to determine whether admixtures of the inhalation solutions Pulmozyme(®) (Dornase alfa) and either Bramitob(®) or Tobi(®) (both containing Tobramycin) are physicochemically compatible and to analyze the aerodynamic parameters of these admixtures. Lung fixation for the preservation of air spaces.

The procedures for the fixation of entire lungs of small rodents are presented together with various techniques used to verify the structural integrity of the lung tissue. To achieve this, the lungs were dissected out from rats and mice killed by ether overdose. The specimens were rinsed with isotonic saline and fixation solution under low vacuum conditions.
