Particulate Matter Contamination of Intravenous Antibiotics Aggravates Loss of Functional Capillary Density in Postischemic Striated Muscle
2002
Through the increased use of less expensive and counterfeit medicines, the contamination of parenteral fluids and drugs by particulate matter poses an increasing health hazard worldwide. However, the mechanism of action of such contamination has never been conclusively demonstrated. We have systemically injected the particles contained in three different 1-g preparations of the antibiotic cefotaxime into hamsters and visualized the functional capillary density in striated skin muscle, using intravital fluorescence microscopy. Injection of particles from either of the three preparations did not affect capillary perfusion in normal muscle (n = 3 hamsters, each). However, injection of particle…
Evolution of patients’ socio-behavioral characteristics in the context of DAA: Results from the French ANRS CO13 HEPAVIH cohort of HIV-HCV co-infecte…
2018
International audience; BACKGROUND:Direct-acting antivirals (DAA) have dramatically increased HCV cure rates with minimal toxicity in HIV-HCV co-infected patients. This study aimed to compare the socio-behavioral characteristics of patients initiating pegylated-interferon (PEG-IFN)-based HCV treatment with those of patients initiating DAA-based treatment.METHODS:ANRS CO13 HEPAVIH is a national multicenter prospective cohort started in 2005, which enrolled 1,859 HIV-HCV co-infected patients followed up in French hospital outpatient units. Both clinical/biological and socio-behavioral data were collected during follow-up. We selected patients with socio-behavioral data available before HCV tr…
Optimizing charge breeding techniques for ISOL facilities in Europe: conclusions from the EMILIE project
2015
ThuM07; International audience; The present paper summarizes the results obtained from the past few years in the framework ofthe Enhanced Multi-Ionization of short-Lived Isotopes for Eurisol (EMILIE) project. The EMILIEproject aims at improving the charge breeding techniques with both Electron Cyclotron ResonanceIon Sources (ECRIS) and Electron Beam Ion Sources (EBISs) for European Radioactive Ion Beam(RIB) facilities. Within EMILIE, an original technique for debunching the beam from EBIS chargebreeders is being developed, for making an optimal use of the capabilities of CW post-acceleratorsof the future facilities. Such a debunching technique should eventually resolve duty cycle andtime st…

Efficient flow injection and sequential injection methods for spectrophotometric determination of oxybenzone in sunscreens based on reaction with Ni(…
2001
Spectrophotometric determination of a widely used UV-filter, such as oxybenzone, is proposed. The method is based on the complexation reaction between oxybenzone and Ni(II) in ammoniacal medium. The stoichiometry of the reaction, established by the Job method, was 1:1. Reaction conditions were studied and the experimental parameters were optimized, for both flow injection (FI) and sequential injection (SI) determinations, with comparative purposes. Sunscreen formulations containing oxybenzone were analyzed by the proposed methods and results compared with those obtained by HPLC. Data show that both FI and SI procedures provide accurate and precise results. The ruggedness, sensitivity and LO…
The use of triamcinolone combined with surgery in major ear keloid treatment: a personal two stages approach
2015
Background: Keloid is a fibroproliferative disorder characterized by an abnormal deposition of collagen within a wound. Despite an increased understanding of wound healing and collagen metabolism, the exact cause, the clinical behavior, and gold standard of treatment for keloids remain an enigma. There is no one right way of treatment, the results are variable, and the management of ear keloids can be difficult and frustrating both for patients and physicians. Traditional techniques include intralesional steroids, topical applications of silicone, vitamins, and segmental excision by lasers or surgery. The purposes of this article are to review the literature concerning the current therapies…
Lentiviral transduction of face and limb flaps: implications for immunomodulation of vascularized composite allografts.
2012
Background Ex vivo introduction of an immunomodulatory transgene into a face or hand allograft may improve the risk-to-benefit ratio of vascularized composite allografts. Abrogation of the immunogenicity of the skin component of a face or hand allograft may decrease alloreactivity and permit the induction of immunologic tolerance. Proof-of-principle demonstrations of transduction of composite tissue have been established using adenoviral vectors, producing transient gene expression. The authors hypothesized that transduction, integration, and long-term expression of transgenes in a vascularized composite allograft could be achieved using lentiviral vectors. Methods Ex vivo transduction of h…
Rugged Large Volume Injection for Sensitive Capillary LC-MS Environmental Monitoring
2017
A rugged and high throughput capillary column (cLC) LC-MS switching platform using large volume injection and on-line automatic filtration and filter back-flush (AFFL) solid phase extraction (SPE) for analysis of environmental water samples with minimal sample preparation is presented. Although narrow columns and on-line sample preparation are used in the platform, high ruggedness is achieved e.g. injection of 100 non-filtrated water samples would did not result in a pressure rise/clogging of the SPE/capillary columns (inner diameter 300 µm). In addition, satisfactory retention time stability and chromatographic resolution were also features of the system. The potential of the platform for …
Aroclor 1254 inhibits the chemiluminescence response of peritoneal cavity cells from sharpsnout sea bream (Diplodus puntazzo)
2014
Chronic exposure to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) affect the immune system of fish and could lead to a decreased disease resistance. The effects of Aroclor 1254, PCB mixtures, on the Diplodus puntazzo innate immunity were examined by assaying the zymosan stimulated chemiluminescence response (CL) of peritoneal cavity cells (PCCs) at various times (1, 24, 48 h and 1-4 weeks) from intraperitoneal injection of the xenobiotic (1 mg kg(-1) body weight). Controls were performed by assaying cells from medium-treated fish. Since the kinetic of the chemiluminescence response showed the highest peak at 25 min after the zymosan stimulation of the cells, the values found at that time were considered…
Alpha-adrenergic drugs in retrograde ejaculation.
1974
6 men with complete or partial loss of ejaculation as a result of retroperitoneal lymphadenectomy (performed because of testicular tumor) were treated with an intravenous injection of 60 mg synephrine. Synephrine stimulates adrenergic alpha-receptors. Only 1 man with sustained retrograde ejaculation improved following treatment showing antegrade ejaculation. This temporary restoration of fertility was thought to be due to an increase in bladder neck tone and prevention of backflow of semen into the bladder as a result of stimulation of adrenergic alpha-receptors.
