INSERTION OF ISOCYANIDES INTO THE PALLADIUM CARBON BOND OF C-2-PALLADATED HETEROCYCLES - SYNTHESIS OF TRANS-[PDCL(C(RN)=NR) (PPH3)2] COMPLEXES (RN = …

1985

The titles complexes trans-[PdCl{C(RN)NR}(PPh3)2] (RN = 2-pyridyl (2-py), R = p-C6H4OMe, Me; RN = 2-pyrazyl (2-pyz), R = p-C6H4OMe) can be prepared by reaction of the N-protonated compounds, cis-[PdCl2(RNH)(PPh3] (RNH = 2-pyridylium (2-pyH) or 2-pyrazylium (2-pyzH) group), with PPh3, followed by addition of the isocyanide CNR and deprotonation with triethylamine, in a molar ratio Pd/PPh3/CNR/NEt3 of 1/1/1/1.1. The reaction sequence involves the successive formation of the cationic intermediates trans-[PdCl(RNH)(PPh3)2]+, trans-[Pd(RNH)(CNR)(PPh3)2]2+ and trans-[Pd(RN)(CNR)(PPh3)2]+, which were isolated and characterized as perchlorate salts for RN = 2-pyridyl. In the final step the coordin…

Canopy Architecture Appraisal by Fractal Dimension of 'Flordastar' Peach Trees Grafted onto Different Rootstocks

2007

The objective of this research was to evaluate the modification of canopy architecture of ''Flordastar'' peach (Prunus persica L. Batsch) grafted onto rootstocks with different vigour, by the use of fractal dimension (D). The hypothesis was that different vigour rootstocks are able to modify the complexity of the branching pattern and that this effect can be assessed by a geometric parameter such as the fractal dimension (D) of the 2D projection of tree branching structure. The observations were carried out in a four-year-old experimental orchard of cv. ''Flordastar'' peach trees grafted onto Ishtara, Barrier, GF677 and MrS 2/5 rootstocks. ''Flordastar'' peach trees grafted onto Ishtara Barrier GF677 and MrS 2/5 rootstocks. On digital pictures of leafless dormant peach trees the tree skeleton was manually depicted by an image analysis software to measure total length and angles of insertion of branches. Bitmaps of the skeleton were then subjected to a specific software (FDCALC) able to calculate D by the "box counting" method. To account for the error introduced by analyzing a three dimensional structure with its 2D projection measurements were done on two images per tree taken from two different viewing angles. Results are shown in relation to tree vigour of the scion/stock combination. Fractal dimension was related to the vigour ranking of the graft combinations tested. In particular vigorous scion/stock combinations showed the highest D.HorticultureCanopy architectureHorticultureRootstockFractal dimensionMathematics

Aberrant splicing of the Drosophila melanogaster phenylalanine hydroxylase pre-mRNA caused by the insertion of a B104/roo transposable element in the…

1999

Abstract We report the insertion of the transposable element B104 in the Phenylalanine hydroxylase gene of the Drosophila mutant Henna-recessive 3 . Its presence alters the Phenylalanine hydroxylase splicing pattern, producing at least two aberrant mRNAs which contain part of the B104 sequence interrupting the coding region. This aberrant splicing is provoked by the use of a cryptic donor site encoded by the B104 3′ long terminal repeat in combination with either the gene intron 3 acceptor site or a novel acceptor site generated by the target duplication caused by transposition. One of them, referred as mRNA type 1, encodes a truncated protein that could be predictably non-functional. In mR…

Insertion mutation inactivates the expression of the recessive oncogene lethal(2)giant larvae of Drosophila melanogaster

1986

The Drosophila recessive oncogene lethal(2)giant larvae is located at the extreme left end of the second chromosome close to telomeric repetitive sequences. Of the 20 l(2)gl mutant alleles isolated from wild flies in widespread populations of the Soviet Union and California, all but two appear to represent large deletions which have removed the telomeric repetitive sequences and l(2)gl single copy sequences (Mechler et al. 1985). We have analyzed the structure of the two exceptions: the l(2)glGB52 mutation results from the insertion of a single transposable element of the B104 or roo family, whereas the more complex rearrangements of the l(2)glDV275 mutation consists of an 8 kb interstitial…

Structure and expression of clustered P element homologues in Drosophila subobscura and Drosophila guanche

1995

Abstract Sequence relationships and functional aspects were analysed in the P element homologues of Drosophila subobscura (Ds) and D. guanche (Dg) . In both species, the P homologues are clustered at a single genomic position. They lack the characteristic terminal structures of actively transposing P elements, but they have the coding capacity for a 66-kDa ‘repressor-like’ protein. Two different types of cluster units (G-type and A-type) can be distinguished. The A-type unit, which is present in multiple copies, is transcribed in adult flies. In contrast, the G-type unit has a much lower copy number and is apparently not expressed. In Dg , the isolated G-type sequence carries a 420-bp inser…

The Mu1 transposable element of maize contains two promoter signals recognized by the Escherichia coli RNA polymerase.

1990

The galactokinase (GalK) expression plasmid vector system pKO-1 has been used to screen for promoter elements in the maize transposable element Mu1 that function in Escherichia coli. Two transcriptional start points, named S1 and S2, were identified, which are located in the two direct repeats of the transposable element. This paper demonstrates that sequence elements exist in a plant transposable element which function as prokaryotic promotors.

Development of an Efficient In Vivo System (P-junc-TpaseIS(1223)) for Random Transposon Mutagenesis of Lactobacillus casei

2012

ABSTRACT The random transposon mutagenesis system P junc -TpaseIS 1223 is composed of plasmids pVI129, expressing IS 1223 transposase, and pVI110, a suicide transposon plasmid carrying the P junc sequence, the substrate of the IS 1223 transposase. This system is particularly efficient in Lactobacillus casei , as more than 10,000 stable, random mutants were routinely obtained via electroporation.
