Indo-French educational partnerships: Institutions, Technologies and Higher Education
2016
International audience; Chapter 1 Why France and India? The Convergence Hypothesis The cross-fertilization of insights derived from French and Indian intellectual History, with, on the one hand, the Age of Enlightment in Western Europe in the 18th century, bringing forward an autonomous position for knowledge in human societies, and, on the other hand, the visionary prediction made by Radhakrishnan (1911, 1933, 1936) that India’s future would be built in her classrooms, have ignited an innovative pluridisciplinary reflection on the role played by these two countries in the fabric of the knowledge-based economy in the twenty-first century (Pilkington and Nair, 2013, p.2). Secular rise in economically valuable personality traits
2017
Although trends in many physical characteristics and cognitive capabilities of modern humans are well-documented, less is known about how personality traits have evolved over time. We analyze data from a standardized personality test administered to 79% of Finnish men born between 1962 and 1976 (n = 419,523) and find steady increases in personality traits that predict higher income in later life. The magnitudes of these trends are similar to the simultaneous increase in cognitive abilities, at 0.2-0.6 SD during the 15-y window. When anchored to earnings, the change in personality traits amounts to a 12% increase. Both personality and cognitive ability have consistent associations with famil…

Diversity – a Challenge for Educators
2006
The challenge for most European countries is to educate second generation immigrants in particular in order to fulfill their parents’ dreams, but above all, to create a situation where students have hope of finding meaningful life in serving their new country in different workplaces. Effective education is a vital source of personal opportunity as well as means to support the economic development of young people in any society. Diversity must be viewed as a valuable learning source for all students in any classroom. In working and doing things together, students can develop a sense of respect for, and tolerance towards, different cultural and ethnic groups in our societies. Only through int…
Stakeholder expectations : conceptual foundations and empirical analysis
2015
Expectations are an inseparable part of interaction, whether in interpersonal, intragroup, or organization–stakeholder relations. As a concept, expectations appear frequently in the public relations literature, yet definitions are scarce or narrow. This thesis contributes to the conceptual and empirical understanding of expectations in the context of organization–stakeholder relations and, more specifically, studies how organizations translate their societal roles and how stakeholders form expectations of these roles. The theoretical framework is drawn from Scandinavian institutionalism and corporate responsibility as social connectedness that, first, places organization–stakeholder relatio…
