From ‘Awkward Partner’ to ‘Awkward Partnership’? Explaining Norway’s Paradoxical Relations with the European Union
2017
Norway is the only Nordic state to have rejected membership of the European Union four times. Applying the conceptual lens of ‘awkwardness’, as developed by Murray et al. (2014), it seems fair to consider the country as an awkward partner in the process of European integration. As a member of the European Economic Area (EEA), however, Norway has been tightly associated with the European Union ever since 1994, actively participating in a large number of EU policies and programs and effectively forging a close partnership that has in itself become increasingly ‘awkward’. This holds true despite the fact that successive Norwegian governments have recently started to embrace a generally more re…
How shall we all live together?: Meta‐analytical review of the mutual intercultural relations in plural societies project
2021
Living together in culturally plural societies poses numerous challenges for members of ethnocultural groups and for the larger society. An important goal of these societies is to achieve positive intercultural relations among all their peoples. Successful management of these relations depends on many factors including a research-based understanding of the historical, political, economic, religious and psychological features of the groups that are in contact. The core question is ‘how we shall we all live together?’ In the project reported in this paper (Mutual Intercultural Relations in Plural Societies; MIRIPS), we seek to provide such research by reviewing three core psychological hypoth…
La mediación como instrumento de dialogo entre las organizaciones y el territorio
2020
The use of mediation as a tool to promote social coexistence remains today a "non-ordinary" social action strategy, which is often activated more to prevent or resolve conflicts than to meet the needs of different communities. However, the experience of social and/or commission mediation services in different parts of the world have proven effective in generating social relationships through the offer of participation spaces; participation which, therefore, goes beyond the assumption of responsibility on the part of the citizen with regard to his own conflicts, and the openness to the search for solutions in relation to conflict, to become space and opportunity for the citizen to know and r…
O Futuro da Saúde / Aptidão Física / Desempenho Esportivo
2017
Radiodensitometric study for evaluation of bone mineral density around dental implants after zoledronic acid treatment in ovariectomized rats
2017
Background The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of intravenous zoledronic acid applied systemically on osseointegration of dental implants and the surrounding bone mineral density (BMD) in the ovariectomized rats. Material and Methods 36 rats were divided into three groups: control (CTRL), ovariectomy (OVX), and ovariectomy-zoledronic acid (OVX/ZOL). The rats in the CTRL group underwent sham surgery, while rats in OVX and OVX / ZOL group underwent ovariectomy. After 12 weeks, rats from OVX / ZOL were injected with 0.04 mg/kg ZOL intravenously once a week for 6 weeks. The rats from CTRL and OVX groups were injected with 0.9% NaCl. Implants were placed in the left tibia. Afte…
Diagnosis and Planning in Immediate Loading: Surgical Diagnosis
2019
For several decades, two-dimensional images were the only available for the surgical diagnosis prior to implant placement. The introduction of digital radiology and software applications for three-dimensional imaging has increased the prospects of success in implant diagnosis and surgical placement. The CBCT is definitely more precise and complete than panoramic radiography, but it is not always mandatory for every case. Success for fixed implant-supported rehabilitations, especially in immediate provisionalization techniques, depends on accurate pre-surgical evaluation of the following issues: (1) recognize feasible restoration procedures to rehabilitate patient edentulism; (2) list all th…
Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma Associated with a Dental Implant: a case report and literature review
2011
Objectives: Prosthodontic rehabilitation using dental implants has become a common practice in dentistry at the present time. Although severe complications related to dental osseointegrated implants are uncommon, in recent years several cases of oral squamous cell carcinoma adjacent to dental implants have been published. Study Design: A 67-year-old edentulous woman developed an oral squamous cell carcinoma around right mandibular implant about 12 months after receiving dental implants. The treatments involve chemotherapy, explantation of the implants and radiotherapy. Result and Conclusions: The use of endosseous implants has been associated with a low risk for the development of cancer. H…
Evaluation of efficacy and biocompatibility of a novel semisynthetic collagen matrix as a dural onlay graft in a large animal model
2011
Background Semisynthetic collagen matrices are promising duraplasty grafts with low risk of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) fistulas, good tissue integration and minor foreign body reaction. The present study investigates the efficacy and biocompatibility of a novel semisynthetic bilayered collagen matrix (BCM, B. Braun Aesculap) as dural onlay graft for duraplasty. Methods Thirty-four pigs underwent osteoclastic trepanation, excision of the dura, and placement of a cortical defect, followed by duraplasty using BCM, Suturable DuraGen™ (Integra Neuroscience), or periosteum. CSF tightness and intraoperative handling of the grafts were evaluated. Pigs were sacrificed after 1 and 6 months for histolo…
Editorial for the Special Issue “Frontiers in Spectral Imaging and 3D Technologies for Geospatial Solutions”
2019
This Special Issue hosts papers on the integrated use of spectral imaging and 3D technologies in remote sensing, including novel sensors, evolving machine learning technologies for data analysis, and the utilization of these technologies in a variety of geospatial applications. The presented results showed improved results when multimodal data was used in object analysis.

Alteration in binocular fusion modifies audiovisual integration in children

2019
Background: In the field of multisensory integration, vision is generally thought to dominate audiovisual interactions, at least in spatial tasks, but the role of binocular fusion in audiovisual integration has not yet been studied. Methods: Using the Maddox test, a classical ophthalmological test used to subjectively detect a latent unilateral eye deviation, we checked whether an alteration in binocular vision in young patients would be able to change audiovisual integration. The study was performed on a group of ten children (five males and five females aged 11.3±1.6 years) with normal binocular vision, and revealed a visual phenomenon consisting of stochastic disappearanceof part of a vi…
