Middle patellar tendon to posterior cruciate ligament (PT–PCL) and normalized PT–PCL: New magnetic resonance indices for tibial tubercle position in …

2018

BACKGROUND To demonstrate whether the distance between the middle point of the patellar tendon and posterior cruciate ligament (PT-PCL) calculated on a single axial MR image could be an alternative measure to tibial tubercle-PCL (TT-PCL) distance for TT lateralization without the need of imaging processing. To show that normalization of PT-PCL (nPT-PCL) against the maximum diameter of the tibial plateau may help to identify patients with patellar instability (PI). METHODS MR scans of 30 patients (13 females, age 32 ± 13 years) with known PI and 60 patients (31 females, age 39 ± 19 years) with no history of PI were reviewed. Two operators calculated TT-PCL, and PT-PCL nPT-PCL. Intraclass cor…

Replication of fMRI group activations in the neuroimaging battery for the Mainz Resilience Project (MARP)

2020

Abstract Motivated by the recent replicability crisis we tested replicability of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) group activations in two independent samples. An identical behavioral and fMRI test battery for the longitudinal investigation of stress resilience mechanisms was developed for the Mainz Resilience Project (MARP) and conducted in a discovery (N = 54) and a replication sample (N = 103). The test battery consisted of a stress reactivity task, a reward sensitivity task, a fear conditioning and extinction paradigm, two volitional reappraisal tasks and an emotional interference inhibition task. Replicability of group activations was tested with the Jaccard index and the I…

Repeatability assessment of biometric measurements with different refractive states and age using a swept-source biometer

2018

Background We aim to assess if refractive error or age may influence the repeatability of measurements using a swept-source biometer. Methods A total of 61 subjects were evaluated with IOLMaster 700 acquiring measurements of axial length (AL), central corneal thickness (CCT), white-to-white distance (WTW), anterior aqueous depth (AQD), lens thickness (LT), and keratometry (K) readings. Repeatability was evaluated classifying the sample according to the refractive state and age by the calculation of the within-subject standard deviation (Sw), coefficient of repeatability, and intraclass correlation coefficient. Results Very similar Sw was acquired among groups for AL, CCT, and WTW. Differenc…

Intrasubject repeatability of corneal power, thickness, and wavefront aberrations with a new version of a dual rotating Scheimpflug–Placido system

2014

Purpose To determine the intrasubject repeatability of a recently introduced dual-camera rotating Scheimpflug–Placido imaging system (Galilei G4) in determining corneal thickness, power, and wavefront aberrations in young healthy subjects. Setting University of Valencia, Valencia, Spain. Design Prospective evaluation of diagnostic technology. Methods The study comprised right eyes of 25 subjects aged 20 to 40 years with a spherical equivalent ranging from −4.25 to +1.00 diopters. The central corneal thickness, thinnest point value and location, anterior and posterior surface curvatures, total corneal power, and corneal wavefront aberrations were measured for distance vision using the dual S…

Repeatability of whole-cornea measurements using an anterior segment imaging device based on OCT and Placido-disk

2017

Current advances in refractive surgery require high accuracy of corneal measurements. We aim to evaluate the repeatability of topographic measurements using an integrated Placido disk - OCT device.Thirty right eyes of thirty healthy and young subjects were included. The topographic parameters of simulated keratometry, asphericity, minimum pachymetry, white-to-white distance, spherical aberration and corneal elevation were studied. Three measurements were taken by the same observer using the Visante omni device. The coefficient of repeatability (CoR), coefficient of variation (CoV) and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) were calculated to assess the repeatability. The Bland-Altman grap…

Precision of a commercial hartmann-shack aberrometer: limits of total wavefront laser vision correction.

2012

Purpose To assess the intrasession and intersession precision of higher-order aberrations (HOAs) measured using a commercial Hartmann-Shack wavefront sensor (Zywave; Bausch & Lomb) in refractive surgery candidates. Design Prospective, experimental study of a device. Methods To analyze intrasession repeatability, 1 experienced examiner measured 30 healthy eyes 5 times successively. To study intersession reproducibility, the same clinician obtained measurements from another 30 eyes in 2 consecutive sessions at the same time of day 1 week apart. Results For intrasession repeatability, excellent intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) were obtained for total ocular aberrations, total HOAs, a…

Comparing indirect methods of digit ratio (2D:4D) measurement.

2008

The ratio of the lengths of the second and fourth finger (2D:4D) has been proposed to index prenatal exposure to androgens. Different methods have been utilized to measure digit ratio, however, their measurement precision and economy have not been systematically compared yet. Using different indirect methods (plastic ruler, caliper, computer software), three independent raters measured finger lengths of 60 participants. Generally, measurement precision (intraclass correlation coefficient, technical error of measurement, and relative technical error of measurement) was acceptable for each method. However, precision estimates were highest for the computer software, indicating excellent measur…

Reliability and validity of the form 90 interview.

2004

Objective: Alcohol consumption is a central variable in substance abuse research and treatment. The study reports the psychometric characteristics of the German version of the Form 90 interview for the assessment of recent alcohol consumption. Method: Reliability was evaluated in a test-retest study (7 days) with 30 consecutively admitted psychiatric inpatients with alcohol dependence. Validity of Form 90 was assessed with a second sample of 60 alcohol-dependent inpatients. Results: Form 90 demonstrated good to excellent retest reliability for the central variables of alcohol consumption. Retest reliability Pearson correlation coeffic…

Posterior tibial tendon dysfunction: Clinical and magnetic resonance imaging findings having histology as reference standard.

2017

Abstract Objective To investigate the correlation between MRI, clinical tests, histopathologic features of posterior tibial tendon (PTT) dysfunction in patients with acquired adult flatfoot deformity surgically treated with medializing calcaneal osteotomy and flexor digitorum longus tendon transposition. Materials and methods Nineteen patients (11 females; age: 46 ± 15 year, range 18–75) were pre-operatively evaluated using the single heel rise (HR) and the first metatarsal rise (FMR) sign tests. Two reviewers graded the PTT tears on a I–III scale and measured the hindfoot valgus angle on the pre-operative MRI of the ankle. The specimens of the removed portion of PTT were histologically ana…

Intra and intersession repeatability and reliability of the S-Plate® pressure platform.

2017

Abstract Aim The aim of this study was to assess the repeatability and reliability of the S-Plate® pressure platform in a group of healthy subjects. Material and methods Forty subjects, free from physical conditions that would affect normal gait, walked along a five-meter corridor while data were recorded from the pressure platform. A total of 10 steps (five each side) were obtained as well as five static trials; the same measurements were repeated one week later. Peak and mean plantar pressures and contact area were recorded for both dynamic and static trials. Additionally, weight supported on each limb was documented during static trials. To assess intrasession and intersession repeatabil…
