A major challenge in tumor surgery is the differentiation between normal and malignant tissue. Since an incompletely resected tumor easily leads to recidivism, the gold standard is to remove malignant tissue with a sufficient safety margin and send it to pathology for examination with patho-histological techniques (rapid section diagnosis). The authors describe a case of spinal arteriovenous fistula (AVF) treated by a microvauscular Doppler–assisted surgical interruption of the arterialized vein. Microvascular Doppler monitoring represents a valid, widely available, non-invasive tool that enables identification, through flow spectrum analysis, of components of this type of vascular malformation. Objective: To analyse the influence of root canal instrumentation and obturation techniques on intra-operative pain experienced by patients during endodontic therapy. Method and Materials: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in Ponferrada and Sevilla, Spain, including 80 patients (46 men and 34 women), with ages ranged from 10 to 74 years, randomly recruited. Patient gender and age, affected tooth, pulpal diagnosis, periapical status, previous NSAID or antibiotic (AB) treatment, and root canal instrumentation and obturation techniques were recorded. Balloon enteroscopy is a method that allows endoscopic inspection of the entire small bowel, or large parts of it, while simultaneously making it possible to obtain histologic samples and carry out treatment measures. Studies of double-balloon enteroscopy (DBE) have confirmed the high diagnostic yield of the procedure, with an acceptably low complication rate (approximately 1% for diagnostic DBE and 3% to 4% for therapeutic DBE). The principal indication for the procedure is midgastrointestinal bleeding, that is, when the bleeding source is located in the small bowel. From the histological point of view, these tumors show several aspects that make difficult the differential diagnosis from schwannomas and pilocytic astrocytomas. Electronic Design for a Bleeding Detector to be Used in Intraoperative Radiotherapy Applications

An electronic design for a bleeding detector used with mobile linac during intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT) is presented. It consists on a readout circuit based on a De Sauty Bridge and a wireless power supply using a supercapacitor. The goal is the measurement of the height of fluid present in the applicator in order to avoid a misadministration dose during the irradiation process. A minimum measurement height of 5 mm is required by clinic to be confident with the selected radiation dose. The measurement circuit uses a capacitive sensor which detects variations lower than 0.1 pF. BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS Cardiorespiratory parameters were examined throughout diagnostic minilaparoscopy procedures. The same parameters were analyzed during colonoscopy, and the data were compared. PATIENTS AND METHODS Sixty-five consecutive unselected patients undergoing minilaparoscopy (group 1: ASA I, n = 34; group 2: ASA II/III, n = 31) and 61 consecutive unselected patients undergoing colonoscopy (group 3: ASA I, n = 31; group 4: ASA II/III, n = 30) were included.
