Calibration of the underground muon detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory

To obtain direct measurements of the muon content of extensive air showers with energy above $10^{16.5}$ eV, the Pierre Auger Observatory is currently being equipped with an underground muon detector (UMD), consisting of 219 10 $\mathrm{m^2}$-modules, each segmented into 64 scintillators coupled to silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs). Direct access to the shower muon content allows for the study of both of the composition of primary cosmic rays and of high-energy hadronic interactions in the forward direction. This report presents the results of a second series of excavations carried out between the oppidum of Boviolles and the ancient city of Nasium. It affects an occupation dated between La Tène D2 and the beginning of the augustean period, characterized by a causeway linking the two entities, a level delivering traces of artisanal activities, wells and a cooking kiln. This occupation is also characterized by the presence of the Roman army embodied in many militaria. This presence is central to the issue of the development of the ancient settlement of Nasium.
Isolation and characterization of Gordonia SoCg n-alkane degradation cluster

Gordonia strain SoCg is a Gram-positive GC rich n-alkane degrader, isolated from a long-term contaminated beach in Sicily for her ability to degrade long (dodecane C12) and very long chain n-alkanes up to hexatriacontane (C36) (P.Quatrini et al., J. Appl. Microbiol., 2007). PCR analysis, using degenerated primers, reveled that it carries one alkane-hydroxylase gene (alkB); PFGE and Southern analysis showed that this gene is localized on the chromosome. A key issue for high-resolution frequency-modulation atomic force microscopy imaging in liquids is minimizing the frequency noise, which requires a detailed analysis of the corresponding noise contributions. In this paper, we present a detailed description for modifying a commercial atomic force microscope (Bruker MultiMode V with Nanoscope V controller), aiming at atomic-resolution frequency-modulation imaging in ambient and in liquid environment. Care was taken to maintain the AFMs original stability and ease of operation. The new system builds upon an optimized light source, a new photodiode and an entirely new amplifier. Ar ogļūdeņražiem piesārņoto grunti testēja laboratorijas apstākļos 23 diennaktis ar mērķi, novērtēt biodegradācijas potenciālu grunts attīrīšanai. Tika izmantoti ogļūdeņražu piesārņoti augsnes paraugi, kas ņemti no [0 – 3] metru dziļuma. Kopumā darbam bija trīs varianti, katram divi atkārtojumi. Variantiem pievienoja dažādas piedevas, lai veiktu biostimulāciju, kā arī baktēriju konsorciju. This can be exploited for the realization of integrated OLED-based fluorescence chemical sensors [2] and microfluidic systems [3] for application in areas such as biotechnology, life sciences, pharmaceuticals, public health and defense. Difensulfonu un benzofenonu atvasinājumu optiskie pētījumi 3. paaudzes organiskām gaismu emitējošām diodēm

Darbā tika pētīti TADF difenilsulfonu un benzofenonu atvasinājumi ar karbazola grupām ar mērķi atrast potenciālu zilās gaismas emiteri. TADF efekta pierādīšanai tika izmantoti degazēti un nedegazēti šķīdinātāji, jo skābeklis mijiedarbojas ar ierosinātajiem tripleta stāvokļiem un būtiski samazina savienojumu emisijas. No dotajiem savienojumiem tika izveidoti OLED. Visefektīvākajiem savienojumiem tika veidotas viesu-saimnieka sistēmas ar mērķi uzlabot emisijas spējas. Par matricu tika izvēlēti divu veidu karbazolu atvasinājumi ar salīdzinoši augstiem tripletu līmeņiem. No sistēmām tikai izveidoti OLED, izmērītas to elektriskās un emisijas īpašības.
