Manipulation of the spin in single molecule magnets via Landau-Zener transitions

2011

We theoretically investigate the effects of a magnetic pulse on a single-molecule magnet (SMM) initially magnetized by a dc field along the easy axis of magnetization. In the Landau\char21{}Zener (LZ) scheme, it is shown that the final spin state is a function of the shape and duration of the pulse, conditioned by the decoherence time of the SMM. In the case of coherent tunneling, the asymmetric pulses are shown to reverse the direction of the magnetization, while the symmetric pulses can only decrease the value of the initial magnetization. It is also demonstrated that the application of an external variable dc field in the hard plane of magnetization provides the possibility to tune the r…

Coupling-assisted Landau-Majorana-Stückelberg-Zener transition in a system of two interacting spin qubits

2019

We analyse a system of two interacting spin-qubits subjected to a Landau-Majorana-Stuckelberg-Zener (LMSZ) ramp. We prove that LMSZ transitions of the two spin-qubits are possible without an external transverse static field since its role is played by the coupling between the spin-qubits. We show how such a physical effect could be exploited to estimate the strength of the interaction between the two spin-qubits and to generate entangled states of the system by appropriately setting the slope of the ramp. Moreover, the study of effects of the coupling parameters on the time-behaviour of the entanglement is reported. Finally, our symmetry-based approach allows us to discuss also effects stem…

Short-wavelength soft-x-ray laser pumped in double-pulse single-beam non-normal incidence

2010

We demonstrated a $7.36$ nm Ni-like samarium soft-x-ray laser, pumped by $36$ J of a neodymium:glass chirped-pulse amplification laser. Double-pulse single-beam non-normal-incidence pumping was applied for efficient soft-x-ray laser generation. In this case, the applied technique included a single-optic focusing geometry for large beam diameters, a single-pass grating compressor, traveling-wave tuning capability, and an optimized high-energy laser double pulse. This scheme has the potential for even shorter-wavelength soft-x-ray laser pumping.

Geometric limits of cyclic groups and the shape of Schottky space

2004

We give a local estimate of the shape of Schottky space at certain boundary points. This is done by studying the geometric limits of sequences of cyclic groups and applying the results to the generators of Schottky groups. We also obtain information on discrete, non-faithful representations close to the cusps.

Test and Simulation of a LYSO+APD matrix with a tagged Photon Beam from 40 to 300 MeV

2012

Understanding the energy resolution terms for LYSO based calorimeters with APD readout at low energy (< 500 MeV) is relevant both for the completion of the KLOE-2 experiment, at DAΦNE, and for the design of the Mu2e calorimeter. In this work, we present a dedicated comparison between experimental data, taken in 2011 at the MAMI tagged photon beam facility with a crystal matrix prototype, and a full Geant-4 simulation of this detector. The crystal prototype matrix consisted of 9 2×2 × 15 cm3 LYSO crystals read-out by 10×10 mm2 Hamamatsu avalanche photodiodes (APD) surrounded by 8 PbWO4 crystals read-out by Bialkali photomultipliers for outer leakage recovery granting a total transverse cover…

The backward end-cap for the PANDA electromagnetic calorimeter

2015

The PANDA experiment at the new FAIR facility will cover a broad experimental programme in hadron structure and spectroscopy. As a multipurpose detector, the PANDA spectrometer needs to ensure almost 4π coverage of the scattering solid angle, full and accurate multiple-particle event reconstruction and very good particle identification capabilities. The electromagnetic calorimeter (EMC) will be a key item for many of these aspects. Particle energies ranging from some MeVs to several GeVs have to be measured with a relative resolution of 1% ⊕ 2%/√E/GeV . It will be a homogeneous calorimeter made of PbWO4 crystals and will be operated at -25°C, in order to improve the scintillation light yiel…

Passive optical resonator for OSQAR LSW experiment

2016

This paper treats the issue of locking a solid state laser, pumped by high power diodes (Verdi V5), to a twenty meter long optical resonator for OSQAR LSW - light shining through the wall, dark matter search experiment. In this paper the optical design and a possible locking scheme are presented. The environmental conditions in SM18 testing hall at CERN, where OSQAR experiment is based, are discussed. The main focus is put on the vibration analysis, cavity transversal modes behaviour, possible clipping in the anticryostat of LHC – Large Hadron Collider magnet bore and locking loop parameters required for future experimental testing. The expected finesse of resonator will be presented and di…

Analysis of the imaging method for assessment of the smile of laser diode bars.

2009

We study imaging systems designed to assess the smile of laser diode bars (LDBs). The magnification matrix is derived from the required sampling period and the geometries of the LDBs and the charge-coupled device (CCD) array. These image-forming systems present in-plane pure translation invariance, but in the case of anamorphic ones, lack in-plane rotation invariance. It is shown that the smile parameters of the image of the LDB are linked with the smile parameters of the LDB by simple mathematical expressions. The spatial resolution of such optical systems is estimated at approximately 1 microm for a mean wavelength of lambda approximately 800 nm. Our results suggest that, with the current…

Butterfly hysteresis curves generated by adiabatic Landau-Zener transitions

2006

Butterfly hysteresis curves observed in dynamical magnetization measurements on systems of low-spin magnetic molecules such as ${\mathrm{V}}_{15}$ can be explained by the interplay of adiabatic Landau-Zener transitions and relaxation. We investigate the magnetization dynamics analytically in the basis of the adiabatic energy levels of the spin $1∕2$, to a qualitative accordance with experimental observations. In particular, reversible behavior is found near zero field, the corresponding susceptibility being bounded by the equilibrium and adiabatic susceptibilities.

Background and muon counting rates in underground muon measurements with a plastic scintillator counter based on a wavelength shifting fibre and a mu…

2010

AbstractIn this short note we present results of background measurements carried out with polystyrene based cast plastic 12.0×12.0×3.0 cm3 size scintillator counter with a wavelength shifting fibre and a multi-pixel Geiger mode avalanche photodiode readout in the Baksan underground laboratory at a depth of 200 metres of water equivalent. The total counting rate of the scintillator counter measured at this depth and at a threshold corresponding to ∼0.37 of a minimum ionizing particle is approximately 1.3 Hz.
