Hydrogen Bonding and Anion Binding in Structures of Tris(pyrazolyl)boratenickel(II) and Phosphate Esters

2008

This paper presents the syntheses, crystal structures and spectroscopic properties of a series of nickel(II) complexes containing hydrotris(3,5-dimethylpyrazolyl)borate and phosphate esters: [Tp*Ni(Hpz*)2(L)][(RO)2PO2] [R = Et, Bu; L = H2O (1), (BuO)2P(O)OH (2)] and [Tp*Ni(Hpz*)(H2O)2][(EtO)2PO2] (5) {Tp* = hydrotris(3,5-dimethylpyrazolyl)borate, Hpz* = 3,5-dimethylpyrazole}. The complexes [Ni(Tp*)2] (3) and [(Tp*Ni)2(μ-pz*)(μ-OH)](4) were also prepared and fully characterized. X-ray crystallographic studies of 1 and 2 reveal that the pyrazole moieties are hydrogen bonded to the guest phosphate ester anion. In complex 5, the phosphate anion is hydrogen-bonded by two O–H groups of the water …

"Comment on ""Non-symmetric substituted ureas locked in an (E,Z) conformation: an unusual anion binding via supramolecular assembly"" by M. Olivari, …

2014

We propose another point of view on the type of hydrogen bonded complexes that were described in this journal (M. Olivari et al., New J. Chem., 2013, 37, 663). The main difference is the molecular geometry and breakage of the intramolecular hydrogen bond during association. The current comment is to highlight mentioned aspects and to point out that in some cases the interpretation may not be straightforward due to the simultaneous effects associated with complexation.

Synthesis of 7-Pentafluorophenyl-1H-indole: An Anion Receptor for Anion–π Interactions

2014

7-Pentafluorophenyl-1H-indole has the potential to be a key compound for the investigation of anion–π interactions in solution. Unfortunately, it was not possible to obtain it by aryl–aryl coupling reaction. Finally, it has been prepared by Bartoli indole synthesis. The key compound as well as analogues were submitted to preliminary studies of anion binding. Single crystals of two key receptors were obtained.

Complexation of M3+Lanthanide Cations by Calix[4]arene-CMPO Ligands: A Molecular Dynamics Study in Methanol Solution and at a Water/Chloroform Interf…

2000

Abstract We report a molecular dynamics study on the 1:1 M3+ lanthanide (La3+, Eu3+ and Yb3+) inclusion complexes of an important extractant molecule L: a calix[4]arene-tetraalkyl ether substituted at the wide rim by four NH-C(O)-CH2-P(O)Ph2 arms. The M(NO3)3 and MCl3 complexes of L are compared in methanol solution and at a water / chloroform interface. In the different environments the coordination sphere of M3+ involves the four phosphoryl oxygens and three to four loosely bound carbonyl oxygens of the CMPO-like arms. Based on free energy simulations, we address the question of ion binding selectivity in pure liquid phases and at the liquid-liquid interface where L and the complexes are …

Alkali metal mediated resorcarene capsules: An ESI-FTICRMS study on gas-phase structure and cation binding of tetraethyl resorcarene and its per-meth…

2002

AbstractElectrospray ionization Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (ESI-FTICRMS) with additional ab initio calculations were used to examine the alkali metal cation binding selectivity (i.e., molecular recognition) and host properties of tetraethyl resorcarene (1) and its per-methylated derivative (2). The significance of intramolecular hydrogen bonding for the crown conformation was demonstrated. The presence of intramolecular flip-flop hydrogen bonding in 1 was confirmed both with calculations and in ND3-exchange experiments. All the alkali metal cations formed host–guest complexes by docking inside the cavity of the host. Complexation with the larger cations, esp…

Solid lipid nanoparticles from amphiphilic calixpyrroles

2016

Abstract Hypothesis Macrocyclic amphiphiles form interesting self-assembling structures, including solid lipid nanoparticles, which have potential applications in drug encapsulation. Aryl-extended calixpyrroles, which act as anion binding hosts, are expected to form solid lipid nanoparticles, even though the alkyl chains have unusual perpendicular geometry with respect to the hydrophilic head group. The preparation conditions and the alkyl chain length should affect the size and stability of the particles. Experiments Solid lipid nanoparticles of two aryl-extended calixpyrroles with resorcinol walls and either meso-dodecyl or meso-methyl alkyl chains were compared. Ethanolic solutions of th…

Copper(II)-Binding Induces a Unique Polyproline Type II Helical Structure within the Ion-Binding Segment in the Intrinsically Disordered F-Domain of …

2019

Reproduction of the dominant vector of Zika and dengue diseases, Aedes aegypti mosquito, is controlled by an active heterodimer complex composed of the 20-hydroxyecdysone receptor (EcR) and ultraspiracle protein. Although A. aegypti EcR shares the structural and functional organization with other nuclear receptors, its C-terminus has an additional long F domain (AaFEcR). Recently, we showed that the full length AaFEcR is intrinsically disordered with the ability to specifically bind divalent metal ions. Here, we describe the details of the exhaustive structural and thermodynamic properties of Zn2+- and Cu2+-complexes with the AaFEcR domain, based on peptide models of its two putative metal …

Binding abilities of dehydropeptides towards Cu(II) and Ni(II) ions. Impact of Z–E isomerization on metal ion binding

2002

The study on the binding ability of dehydro-tri- and tetrapeptides has shown that the alpha,beta-double bond has a critical effect on the peptide coordination to metal ions. It may affect the binding of the vicinal amide nitrogens by the electronic effect and stabilize the complex due to steric effects. The (Z) isomer is the most effective in stabilizing of the complexes formed. The presence of large side chain in the dehydroamino acid residue may also be critical for the coordination mode in the metallopeptide systems.

Resorcinarene Podand with Amine-Functionalized Side Arms – Synthesis, Structure, and Binding Properties of a Neutral Anion Receptor

2009

The synthesis and structure of a neutral resorcinarene host bearing four amine-functionalized side arms is described. The anion binding properties were investigated in solution by 1H NMR spectroscopic titration and diffusion experiments and in the gas phase by mass spectrometric studies. It was observed that in solution 1:2 (host/guest) complexes were formed between the resorcinarene host and the basic fluoride and acetate anions, whereas in the gas phase 1:1 complexes with other anions (Cl–, HCOO–, NO3–, and BF4–) were detected additionally.
