Terbium Medical Radioisotope Production: Laser Resonance Ionization Scheme Development
2021
Terbium (Tb) is a promising element for the theranostic approach in nuclear medicine. The new CERN-MEDICIS facility aims for production of its medical radioisotopes to support related R&D projects in biomedicine. The use of laser resonance ionization is essential to provide radioisotopic yields of highest quantity and quality, specifically regarding purity. This paper presents the results of preparation and characterization of a suitable two-step laser resonance ionization process for Tb. By resonance excitation via an auto-ionizing level, the high ionization efficiency of 53% was achieved. To simulate realistic production conditions for Tb radioisotopes, the influence of a surplus of Gd at…
On the Semiconductor Spectroscopy for Identification of Emergent Contaminants in Transparent Mediums
2021
In this chapter, we present a theoretical study of photoelectronic processes in experimental silicon \({n}^{+}{\text{-}}p{\text{-}}{n}^{+}\) structures with applications in identifying emergent contaminants in aqueous medium. Contribution due to various mechanisms of photon absorption to the total photocurrent is calculated. Various mechanisms, such as the influence of tunneling on the spectral characteristic and selective spectral photosensitivity of samples under investigation were investigated. The nature of the relationship between energy parameters of the absorbed waves and the structural parameters is revealed. Expressions are obtained for photocurrent with and without external diffus…
Detection system for forward emitted photons at the Experimental Storage Ring at GSI
2013
A single photon counting system has been developed for efficient detection of forward emitted fluorescence photons at the Experimental Storage Ring (ESR) at GSI. The system employs a movable parabolic mirror with a central slit that can be positioned around the ion beam and a selected low noise photomultiplier for detection of the collected photons. Compared to the previously used system of mirror segments installed inside the ESR the collection efficiency for forward-emitted photons is improved by more than a factor of 5. No adverse effects on the stored ion beam have been observed during operation besides a small drop in the ion current of about 5% during movement of the mirror into the b…
Extracting parameters from semi-log plots of polycrystalline silicon PV modules outdoor I–V data: Double-exponential model revisited
2010
This paper presents a method for extracting physically meaningful parameters from measured I–V curves of PV modules. The 7-parameter double-exponential model is applied in the modeling. The method is based on linear fitting of semi-logarithmic plots. The paper demonstrates a new technique to estimate the series resistance of a module with high accuracy from such plots. As a result, also the reverse saturation current and the quality factor of the diffusion diode can be determined. The method is applied to outdoor I–V data from a test station with three similar, but not identical, polycrystalline-Si modules. The values of the series resistances found with this method deviate somewhat from th…
Modeling and Characterization of SiPM Parameters at Temperatures between 95 K and 300 K
2017
The modeling and characterization of silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) in a wide temperature range from 95 K to 300 K is presented. The devices under study had the distinctive feature of forward-biased p-n junctions situated under each pixel as active quenching resistors making them particularly appropriate to be operated at cryogenic temperatures. The voltage drop across the diode in a forward direction was measured for a series of injected currents in this temperature range. It was observed that the characteristics of different SiPM types influence the temperature dependence of the reverse saturation current. The devices were further characterized by low-level light-pulse measurements. The…
Non-Linear Inductors Characterization in Real Operating Conditions for Power Density Optimization in SMPS
2021
The exploitation of power inductors outside their linear region in switching converters can be achieved by raising the current until a decreasing of the inductance can be noticed. It allows using a smaller magnetic core increasing the power density of the converter. On the other hand, a detailed description of the magnetization curve including the temperature is required. Since this information is often not included in the inductor’s datasheets, this paper shows how to identify the behavior of an inductor when it is operated up to saturation and its temperature rises. In order to characterize the inductor in real operating conditions, a dedicated measurement rig has been developed. It consi…
Lithium Ion Recognition with Nanofluidic Diodes through Host-Guest Complexation in Confined Geometries
2018
[EN] The lithium ion recognition is receiving significant attention because of its application in pharmaceuticals, lubricants and, especially, in energy technology. We present a nanofluidic device for specific lithium ion recognition via host guest complexation in a confined environment. A lithium-selective receptor molecule, the aminoethyl-benzo-12-crown-4 (BC12C4-NH2), is designed and functionalized on single conical nanopores in polyethylene terephthalate (PET) membranes. The native carboxylic acid groups on the pore walls are covalently linked with the crown ether moieties and the process is monitored from the changes in the current voltage (I-V) curves. The B12-crown-4 moieties are kno…
