Optimization of a hot-cavity type resonant ionization laser ion source
2015
TuePS05; International audience; Resonant Ionization Laser Ion Source (RILIS) is nowadays an important technique in many RadioactiveIon Beam (RIB) facilities for its reliability and ability to ionize efficiently and element selectively.Grand Accélérateur National d’Ions Lourds (GANIL) Ion Source using Electron Laser Excitation(GISELE) is an off-line test bench for RILIS developed to study a fully operational resonant laserion source at GANIL facility. The ion source body has been designed as a modular system toinvestigate different experimental approaches by varying the design parameters, to develop the futureon-line laser ion source. The aim of this project is to determine the best technic…
Production of ionic and atomic beams of alkaline elements
1980
Abstract An on-line mass spectrometer has been developed and used to perform atomic and nuclear spectroscopy on long series of alkali isotopes including nuclei far from stability. The apparatus was on-line either to the ISOLDE mass separator or directly to the PS, proton beam. In the case of atomic spectroscopy, a thermal atomic beam is needed. As ISOLDE delivers 60 keV ions, a high efficiency “ion-to-atom coverter” has been developed. In all cases, an “ionizer” is required to produce 10 keV ions for the ion source of the mass spectrometer. These two special devices are described, their efficiency and the consequent delay times discussed. The different targets which have been developed for …
Use of Ambient Ionization High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry for the Kinetic Analysis of Organic Surface Reactions
2016
In contrast to homogeneous systems, studying the kinetics of organic reactions on solid surfaces remains a difficult task due to the limited availability of appropriate analysis techniques that are general, high-throughput, and capable of offering quantitative, structural surface information. Here, we demonstrate how direct analysis in real time mass spectrometry (DART-MS) complies with above considerations and can be used for determining interfacial kinetic parameters. The presented approach is based on the use of a MS tag that - in principle - allows application to other reactions. To show the potential of DART-MS, we selected the widely applied strain-promoted alkyne-azide cycloaddition …
Students’ online information use and learning progress in higher education – A critical literature review

Learning using the Internet has become a vital factor for academic success in higher education. Students increasingly rely on the Internet as their main information source. However, related researc...
Accelerating Radioactive Ion Beams With REX-ISOLDE
2003
The post accelerator REX‐ISOLDE is installed at the ISOLDE facility at CERN, where a broad variety of radioactive ions can be addressed. Since the end of 2001 beams at the final energy of 2.2 MeV/u are available. REX‐ISOLDE uses a unique system of beam bunching and charge breeding. First a Penning trap accumulates and bunches the ions, which are delivered as a quasi‐continuous beam from the ISOLDE target‐ion‐source, and then an electron beam ion source (EBIS) charge‐breeds them to a mass‐to‐charge ratio below 4.5. This enables a very compact design for the following LINAC, consisting of a 4 rod RFQ, an IH structure and three 7‐gap‐resonators. The later ones allow a variation of the final en…

Entre la gramática y el discurso: reformuladores alemanes en proceso de fijación
2015
This paper aims, on the one hand, to critically revise the notion of reformulation from the perspective of the Operator-Scopus-Theory and its understanding of discourse based on the interpretative capacity of the recipient and the sender’s attempt to adjust his linguistic production to the expectations of this recipient in order to attain a specific end. On the other hand, we will analyse three reformulation markers which have been scarcely dealt with in the specialised bibliography, since they can render evidence on the defining features of the category and on the transition of these markers (still uncompleted in many of them) towards their full conversion into invariable particles with ty…
A longitudinal study on the information needs and preferences of patients after an acute coronary syndrome.
2016
Background Research has shown that the provision of pertinent health information to patients with cardiovascular disease is associated with better adherence to medical prescriptions, behavioral changes, and enhanced perception of control over the disease. Yet there is no clear knowledge on how to improve information pertinence. Identifying and meeting the information needs of patients and their preferences for sources of information is pivotal to developing patient-led services. This prospective, observational study was aimed at exploring the information needs and perceived relevance of different information sources for patients during the twenty-four months following an acute coronary synd…
Precision Measurements of Atomic Masses Using Highly Charged Ions and Atomic Clusters
1992
A high precision Penning trap will be connected to the beam of highly charged ions from the electron beam ion source CRYSIS at the Manne Siegbahn Institute for Physics (MSI) in Stockholm. The first series of experiments aim at accurate mass measurements by exploiting the increase of the cyclotron frequency with the charge state of the trapped ion. Using charged states of about 50 it should be possible to achieve relative mass accuracies for mass doublets better than 10-9. For this high accuracy a Penning trap with low imperfections is needed, as well as a sophisticated beam handling and retardation system for controlled injection of the ions into the trap. In order to minimize the effect of…
Precision mass measurements using a penning trap and highly charged ions produced in an electron beam ion source
1997
A method for precision mass measurements in a Penning trap using highly charged ions produced in an electron beam ion source (CRYSIS) has been developed. The cyclotron frequencies for O8+, 7+, 6+, 5+ and Ar18+, 17+, 16+, 15+, 14+, 13+ ions have been determined by the excitation of the sum frequency v+ + v−. In addition to CRYSIS ions, H+, H2+ and He+ ions were produced by electron bombardment of the H2 rest gas or helium gas introduced through an UHV leak valve into an auxiliary ion trap (or a pre-trap). A technique for fast (seconds) interchanging of the ion species in the precision trap has been implemented to reduce the long term magnetic field drift.
