Isobutyl alcohol (IBA) has been proposed as a solvent to carry out the dehydration of ethanol and 1-propanol by means of a nonconventional distillation process. In this way, isobaric vapor–liquid equilibrium (VLE) and vapor–liquid–liquid equilibrium (VLLE) data at atmospheric pressure have been obtained for the ternary systems ethanol (1a) + water (2) + IBA (3) and 1-propanol (1b) + water (2) + IBA (3). Then, these data have been correlated to obtain a set of parameters capable of estimating VLE and VLLE. Thermodynamic Analysis and Process Simulation of Ethanol Dehydration via Heterogeneous Azeotropic Distillation

The heterogeneous azeotropic distillation process is widely used to separate nonideal binary mixtures into their constituent pure components. This method uses the addition of a third component, called an entrainer, to cause liquid–liquid phase separation over a broad range of compositions in the ternary phase diagram. Ethanol dehydration was used as a case study and diisopropyl ether and isobutyl alcohol were analyzed as possible entrainers in a heterogeneous azeotropic distillation. T=5/2states in9Li:Isobaric analog states of9He

The thick target inverse kinematic method was applied to the study of isobaric analog states in the neutron-rich nucleus ${}^{9}\mathrm{Li}.$ For this purpose, an excitation function for ${}^{8}\mathrm{He}+p$ elastic scattering was measured in the center-of-momentum energy range from 1.6 to 5.8 MeV. Three $T=5/2$ states in ${}^{9}\mathrm{Li}$ (isobaric analogs of ${}^{9}\mathrm{He})$ were observed. Restrictions on the spin-parity assignments are provided according to R-matrix calculations, and conclusions regarding the structure of ${}^{9}\mathrm{He}$ are given.
Molecular structures inT=1states of10B

Multi-center (molecular) structures can play an important role in light nuclei. The highly deformed rotational band in 10Be with band head at 6.179 MeV has been observed recently and suggested to have an exotic alpha:2n:alpha configuration. A search for states with alpha:pn:alpha two-center molecular configurations in 10B that are analogous to the states with alpha:2n:alpha structure in 10Be has been performed. The T=1 isobaric analog states in 10B were studied in the excitation energy range of E=8.7-12.1 MeV using the reaction 1H(9Be,alpha)6Li*(T=1, 0+, 3.56 MeV). Isobaric vapor–liquid equilibria (VLE) for the 1-propanol + 1-butyl-3-ethylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate ([beim][triflate]), water + [beim][triflate], 1-propanol + 1-butyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium trifluoromethanesulfonate ([bmpyr][triflate]), and water + [bmpyr][triflate] binary systems, as well as the VLE for the 1-propanol + water + [beim][triflate] and 1-propanol + water + [bmpyr][triflate] ternary systems have been obtained at 100 kPa using a recirculating still. Abstract Gas catchers are widely used to thermalize nuclear reaction products and subsequently extract them for precision measurements. However, impurities in the inert stopping gas can chemically react with the ions and thus influence the extraction efficiency. So far, chemical reactions in the gas-catcher have not been investigated in detail. Dispersive magnetic immunoaffinity extraction. Anatoxin-a determination.

Specific monoclonal antibodies were coupled with magnetic Sepharose-based beads and used, for the first time. The methodology was applied to preconcentrate anatoxin-a from water and the later determination by ion mobility spectrometry (IMS). Dispersive magnetic immunoaffinity (d-MagIA) extraction methodology provided a limit of detection of 0.02μgL-1 and a satisfactory precision with a relative standard deviation lower than 15%. Recoveries were evaluated at 0.5, 1.0 and 5.0μgL-1 anatoxin-a with quantitative values from 91 to 115%. Additionally, isobaric interferences with phenylalanine were completely avoided by the use of the developed d-MagIA extraction coupled to IMS determinations.

Ultratrace analysis of calcium with high isotopic selectivity by diodelaser resonance ionisation mass spectrometry

A resonance ionisation mass spectrometer for the ultratrace determination of calcium isotopes is presented. It achieves high overall efficiency, ultra-high isotopic abundance sensitivity of more than 1010 and complete suppression of isobars. The system can be used for isotope ratio studies on stable and long-lived trace isotopes with the final goal of radiodating via 41Ca-determination. For the different applications optical one-, two- or three-step resonance excitation and subsequent ionisation is applied using simple and inexpensive diodelasers. Tensor Analyzing Powers for Quasi-Elastic Electron Scattering from Deuterium

We report on a first measurement of tensor analyzing powers in quasi-elastic electron-deuteron scattering at an average three-momentum transfer of 1.7 fm$^{-1}$. Data sensitive to the spin-dependent nucleon density in the deuteron were obtained for missing momenta up to 150 MeV/$c$ with a tensor polarized $^2$H target internal to an electron storage ring. The data are well described by a calculation that includes the effects of final-state interaction, meson-exchange and isobar currents, and leading-order relativistic contributions.
