Higher-order polarizations on the Virasoro group and anomalies

1991

In a previous paper the authors showed that the space of (first order) polarized functions on the Virasoro group is not, in general, irreducible. The full reduction was explicitly achieved by taking the orbit of the enveloping algebra through the vacuum. This additional step provided the proper quantization in the “strong-coupling” domain 0<c≦1. In this paper we introduce the concept of “higher order polarization” as a generalization of that of polarization. We prove that the imposing of the additional (higher-order) polarization conditions is equivalent to the taking of the above-mentioned orbit. This demonstrates that the generalized (higher-order) polarization conditions suffice to obtai…

Level-Crossing Rate and Average Duration of Fades in Non-Isotropic Hoyt Fading Channels with Applications to Selection Combining Diversity

2015

In this paper, we investigate the second-order statistics of Hoyt fading channels under non isotropic scattering scenarios. Assuming an asymmetrical Doppler power spectral density (PSD), we derive, in the form of single finite-range integrals, expressions for the level-crossing rate (LCR) and average duration of fades (ADF). These new results are then applied to obtain the LCR and ADF of selection combining (SC) diversity over non-isotropic Hoyt channels. In addition to their importance for studying the system performance and characterizing the dynamic behavior of multipath fading channels, the formulas derived are general in that they can be applied to many non-isotropic scattering situati…

Searches for small-scale anisotropies from neutrino point sources with three years of IceCube data

2015

Recently, IceCube found evidence for a diffuse signal of astrophysical neutrinos in an energy range of $60\,\mathrm{TeV}$ to the $\mathrm{PeV}$-scale. The origin of those events, being a key to understanding the origin of cosmic rays, is still an unsolved question. So far, analyses have not succeeded to resolve the diffuse signal into point-like sources. Searches including a maximum-likelihood-ratio test, based on the reconstructed directions and energies of the detected down- and up-going neutrino candidates, were also performed on IceCube data leading to the exclusion of bright point sources. In this paper, we present two methods to search for faint neutrino point sources in three years o…

Charge transport through spin-polarized tunnel junction between two spin-split superconductors

2019

We investigate transport properties of junctions between two spin-split superconductors linked by a spin-polarized tunneling barrier. The spin-splitting fields in the superconductors (S) are induced by adjacent ferromagnetic insulating (FI) layers with arbitrary magnetization. The aim of this study is twofold: On the one hand, we present a theoretical framework based on the quasiclassical Green's functions to calculate the Josephson and quasiparticle current through the junctions in terms of the different parameters characterizing it. Our theory predicts qualitative new results for the tunneling differential conductance, $dI/dV$, when the spin-splitting fields of the two superconductors are…

Influence of the anisotropy of sisal fibers on the mechanical properties of high performance unidirectional biocomposite lamina and micromechanical m…

2021

Abstract High performance biocomposites reinforced by sisal fibers, are between the most promising materials that could be used in various fields, from automotive to civil constructions, thanks to their good mechanical performance, as well as to the low cost and the great availability of the fiber. Nevertheless, at present their practical use is prevented by the limited knowledge of their mechanical performance. The results of the present study have shown that the intimate fibrillar structure of the sisal fiber is associated with a high anisotropy involving not only the elastic parameters, but also the damage processes with typical fiber splitting phenomena, that influence noticeably the bi…

Custom coordination environments for lanthanoids: tripodal ligands achieve near-perfect octahedral coordination for two dysprosium-based molecular na…

2017

Controlling the coordination sphere of lanthanoid complexes is a challenging critical step toward controlling their relaxation properties. Here we present the synthesis of hexacoordinated dysprosium single-molecule magnets, where tripodal ligands achieve a near-perfect octahedral coordination. We perform a complete experimental and theoretical investigation of their magnetic properties, including a full single-crystal magnetic anisotropy analysis. The combination of electrostatic and crystal-field computational tools (SIMPRE and CONDON codes) allows us to explain the static behavior of these systems in detail. Family of Isomeric CuII–LnIII (Ln = Gd, Tb, and Dy) Complexes Presenting Field-Induced Slow Relaxation of Magnetization Only for the Members Containi…

2020

The strategic design and synthesis of two isomeric CuII complexes, [CuLA] and [CuLB], of asymmetrically dicondensed N2O3-donor Schiff-base ligands (where H2LA and H2LB are N-salicylidene-N'-3-methoxysalicylidenepropane-1,2-diamine and N-3-methoxysalicylidene-N'-salicylidenepropane-1,2-diamine, respectively) have been accomplished via a convenient CuII template method. These two complexes have been used as metalloligands for the synthesis of three pairs of Cu-Ln isomeric complexes [CuL(μ-NO3)Ln(NO3)2(H2O)]·CH3CN (for complexes 1A-3A, L = LA, and for complexes 1B-3B, L = LB and Ln = Gd, Tb, and Dy, respectively), all of which have been characterized structurally. In all six isomorphous and is…

Cyanide-bridged coordination polymers constructed from lanthanide ions and octacyanometallate building-blocks

2018

A new series of cyanide-bridged assemblies, {KH[Ln2(2,3-pzdc)2(CH3OH)(H2O)7][M(CN)8]}·5H2O (Ln3+ = Nd, Gd, Tb, and Dy; M4+ = Mo and W), were synthesised by self-assembling lanthanide ions and octacyanometallate ions in the presence of pyrazine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid (2,3-H2pzdc). These compounds have a 3D structure in which octagon-like Ln4M4(CN)8 rings are connected through a second Ln3+ center via the carboxylate groups of one 2,3-pzdc. The resulting 1D channels are filled with K+ ions and lattice water molecules. The temperature and field dependent magnetization studies as well as ab initio calculations indicate weak ferromagnetic interactions between the Gd3+ ions within the GdMo compoun…

Molecular spin qubits based on lanthanide ions encapsulated in cubic polyoxopalladates: design criteria to enhance quantum coherence

2015

The family of cubic polyoxopalladates encapsulating lanthanide ions [LnPd12(AsPh)8O32]5− where Ln = Tb, Dy, Ho, Er and Tm, is magnetically characterised and theoretically described by the Radial Effective Charge (REC) model and a phenomenological crystal-field approach using the full-hamiltonian, in the SIMPRE and CONDON packages respectively. The lack of anisotropy generates an extraordinarily rich energy level structure at low temperatures, which allows us to study how such a structure is affected by lifting the strict cubic symmetry and/or by applying an external magnetic field. In particular, we will explore the possibility of using these cubic Ln complexes as spin-qubits. We will focus…

A Dysprosium Metallocene Single-Molecule Magnet Functioning at the Axial Limit

2017

Abstraction of a chloride ligand from the dysprosium metallocene [(Cpttt)2DyCl] (1Dy Cpttt=1,2,4‐tri(tert‐butyl)cyclopentadienide) by the triethylsilylium cation produces the first base‐free rare‐earth metallocenium cation [(Cpttt)2Dy]+ (2Dy) as a salt of the non‐coordinating [B(C6F5)4]− anion. Magnetic measurements reveal that [2Dy][B(C6F5)4] is an SMM with a record anisotropy barrier up to 1277 cm−1 (1837 K) in zero field and a record magnetic blocking temperature of 60 K, including hysteresis with coercivity. The exceptional magnetic axiality of 2Dy is further highlighted by computational studies, which reveal this system to be the first lanthanide SMM in which all low‐lying Kramers doub…
