Large Conductance Switching in a Single-Molecule Device through Room Temperature Spin-Dependent Transport

2016

Controlling the spin of electrons in nanoscale electronic devices is one of the most promising topics aiming at developing devices with rapid and high density information storage capabilities. The interface magnetism or spinterface resulting from the interaction between a magnetic molecule and a metal surface, or vice versa, has become a key ingredient in creating nanoscale molecular devices with novel functionalities. Here, we present a single-molecule wire that displays large (>10000%) conductance switching by controlling the spin-dependent transport under ambient conditions (room temperature in a liquid cell). The molecular wire is built by trapping individual spin crossover Fe-II comple…

Magnetic domain-wall racetrack memory for high density and fast data storage

2012

The racetrack memory device is a new concept of Magnetic RAM (MRAM) based on controlling domain wall (DW) motion in ferromagnetic nanowires. It promises ultra-high storage density thanks to the possibility to store multiple narrow DWS per memory cell. By using read and write heads based on magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJ) with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) fast data access speed can also be achieved. Thereby the racetrack memory can be used as universal storage to address both embedded and standalone applications. In this paper, we present the device physics, integration circuit and architecture designs of a racetrack memory based on MTJs with PMA. Mixed SPICE simulations at 65 nm …

Analysis of Transition Metal Oxides based Heterojunction Solar Cells with S-shaped J-V curves

2020

The use of transition metal oxides for the selective carrier contact in the crystalline silicon solar cells technology is rising to interest for the excellent optoelectrical properties of these materials whose implementation, however, can result in lousy performing cells due to an S-shaped electrical characteristic. In this paper, we fabricated solar cells showing S-shaped J-V curve and carried out an analysis of the reasons of such behavior using a model involving the series of a standard cell equivalent circuit with a Schottky junction in order to explain these atypical performances. A good matching between the experimental measurements and the adopted theoretical model was obtained. The …

Morphology changes induced by intercellular gap junction blocking: A reaction-diffusion mechanism.

2021

Complex anatomical form is regulated in part by endogenous physiological communication between cells; however, the dynamics by which gap junctional (GJ) states across tissues regulate morphology are still poorly understood. We employed a biophysical modeling approach combining different signaling molecules (morphogens) to qualitatively describe the anteroposterior and lateral morphology changes in model multicellular systems due to intercellular GJ blockade. The model is based on two assumptions for blocking-induced patterning: (i) the local concentrations of two small antagonistic morphogens diffusing through the GJs along the axial direction, together with that of an independent, uncouple…

Notes on the use of rhetoric in t.v. advertising

1989

We intend to reflect on the use of Rhetoric in t.v. advertising starting from the survey of several spots given off by T.V.E. Therefore, we fix the structural organization of advertisements. Afterwards we study the rhetoric of spot in the sound and in the picture and, mainly, ¡n the conjunction of both bands; in this sense spots are normally based on a rhetorical figure that involves both bands. Our observations set up an essentially metaphoric basis to the construction of publicity message. We infer that advertising works with connotative signs, where the assembly of picture and sound tracks becomes the significant of metaphoric meaning that is insinuated.

Voice and authorial body in Juana Manso

2021

Direct sunlight facility for testing and research in HCPV

2014

A facility for testing different components for HCPV application has been developed in the framework of "Fotovoltaico ad Alta Efficienza" (FAE) project funded by the Sicilian Regional Authority (PO FESR Sicilia 2007/2013 4.1.1.1). The testing facility is equipped with an heliostat providing a wide solar beam inside the lab, an optical bench for mounting and aligning the HCPV components, electronic equipments to characterize the I-V curves of multijunction cells operated up to 2000 suns, a system to circulate a fluid in the heat sink at controlled temperature and flow-rate, a data logging system with sensors to measure temperatures in several locations and fluid pressures at the inlet and ou…

Assessment of MOSFET switching losses in an LLC converter by a calorimetric method

2023

The present work aims to implement a calorimetric method to measure the power dissipated during MOSFET switching in a high efficiency LLC resonant converter. The power dissipated from switching can significantly impact the total power dissipated by the device and consequent efficiency, so correct quantification is fundamental for optimizing the devices and increasing the efficiency of the converters. In LLC converters, this type of dissipated power cannot be measured with standard methods such as measurement with oscilloscopes as some of the energy that is recovered and not dissipated. The calorimetric method requires reasonably accurate measurement of thermal resistance and the temperature…

Coexistence of superconductivity and magnetism by chemical design.

2010

Although the coexistence of superconductivity and ferromagnetism in one compound is rare, some examples of such materials are known to exist. Methods to physically prepare hybrid structures with both competing phases are also known, which rely on the nanofabrication of alternating conducting layers. Chemical methods of building up hybrid materials with organic molecules (superconducting layers) and metal complexes (magnetic layers) have provided examples of superconductivity with some magnetic properties, but not fully ordered. Now, we report a chemical design strategy that uses the self assembly in solution of macromolecular nanosheet building blocks to engineer the coexistence of supercon…

Development of an Inductive NIS Thermometer

2012

We have studied an inductive readout for normal metal-insulator-superconductor (NIS) tunnel junctions by using on-chip planar inductors and a DC SQUID (superconducting quantum interference device) to develop a sensitive and fast thermometer for studies of nanoscale heat conduction and bolometry. Our initial results show the feasibility of the concept, with a good sensitivity for temperatures below 1 K for aluminum as the superconductor when voltage biased close to the superconductor energy gap. peerReviewed
