From 1338 onwards, the inhabitants of late-medieval Valencia celebrated a feast every 9 October commemorating the entrance into the city of King James I’s forces on that day in 1238. It has been argued that this was essentially a spiritual display from its establishment in 1338 until the beginning of the fifteenth century. The present study delves deeper into the religious and political aims of the feast from its origins, framing the celebration within a broader Mediterranean context. Wielka wojna północna oznaczała zmierzch starych potęg takich, jak Szwecja czy Rzeczypospolita i narodziny nowej - Rosji cara Piotra I. Przeprowadził on w państwie głębokie reformy oraz zmodernizował i unowocześnił siły zbrojne, tworząc bałtycką flotę wojenną. Zmiany te nie uszły uwadze ambasadorów obcych państw, w tym oczywiście Wielkiej Brytanii, którzy raportowali o nich do centrali. Sporządzali także zestawienia sił zbrojnych Rosji, w tym marynarki oraz umieszczali przy takiej okazji trafne spostrzeżenia dotyczące żołdu czy werbunku marynarzy. Kilka z nich będzie przedmiotem analizy, a dane które można z nich odczytać będą mogły świadczyć o rozwoju carskich sił zbrojnych.

This article examines the comparisons made between Indians and Antiquity in early nineteenth-century American literature (notably in the works of Washington Irving and James Fenimore Cooper); to do so, it begins by reaching back to references in European and American writings of the eighteenth century. One of the main motivations behind the associations between Native Americans and the Ancient World made in the early decades of the nineteenth century was to “elevate” Indians in order to transform them into worthy symbols of the recently established United States. Papildus izciliem detektīvstāstiem, romāni piedāvā ieskatu 1980.-to gadu Ņūorleānā, kur tiek parādītas tādas tēmas kā vīrišķība, agresija, un rase. Šajā darbā tika aplūkota džeza tēma, un kā džeza terminoloģija palīdz uzturēt detektīvstāsta struktūru. Izmantojot izvēlēto darbu analīzi, interpretāciju, naratoloģiju un rūpīgu lasīšanu, darbā tika apskatīta džeza terminoloģija un tās sasaista ar detektīvstāstu. Darba rezultātā tika izstrādāta padziļināta džeza terminoloģijas analīze, un izskatīta tās ietekme uz detektīvromānu.
