2016
The syntheses of the alkanolamine N(CH2CMe2OH)2(CMe2CH2OH) (1), of the stannatrane N(CH2CMe2O)2(CMe2CH2O)SnO-t-Bu (2), and of the trinuclear tin oxocluster 3 consisting of the two isomers [(μ3-O)(O-t-Bu){Sn(OCH2CMe2)(OCMe2CH2)2N}3] (3a) and [(μ3-O)(μ3-O-t-Bu){Sn(OCH2CMe2)(OCMe2CH2)2N}3] (3b) as well as the isolation of a few crystals of the hexanuclear tin oxocluster [LSnOSn(OH)3LSnOH]2 [L = N(CH2CMe2O)2(CMe2CH2O)] (4) are reported. The compounds were characterized by 1H, 13C, 15N, and 119Sn (1–3) nuclear magnetic resonance and infrared spectroscopy, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis (1–4). A graph set analysis was performed for compoun…
Recovery of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) from wastewater : a review
2020
Abstract Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are biopolyesters accumulated as carbon and energy storage materials under unbalanced growth conditions by various microorganisms. They are one of the most promising potential substitutes for conventional non-biodegradable plastics due to their similar physicochemical properties, but most important, its biodegradability. Production cost of PHAs is still a great barrier to extend its application at industrial scale. In order to reduce that cost, research is focusing on the use of several wastes as feedstock (such as agro-industrial and municipal organic waste and wastewater) in a platform based on mixed microbial cultures. This review provides a critical…
Bioplastic recovery from wastewater: A new protocol for polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) extraction from mixed microbial cultures
2019
Abstract A new protocol for polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) extraction from mixed microbial cultures (MMCs) is proposed. PHA-accumulating capacity of the MMC was selected in a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) fed with a synthetic effluent emulating a fermented oil mill wastewater (OMW). The highest recovery yield and purity (74 ± 8% and 100 ± 5%, respectively) was obtained when using NH4-Laurate for which operating conditions of the extraction process such as temperature, concentration and contact time were optimized. Best conditions for PHA extraction from MMC turned to be: i) a pre-treatment with NaClO at 85 °C with 1 h of contact time, followed by ii) a treatment with lauric acid in a ratio ac…
Volatile components of ripe fruits of Morinda citrifolia and their effects on Drosophila
1996
Abstract The only larval resource of the specialist species, Drosophila sechellia , is ripe fruits of Morinda citrifolia . The chemical composition of this fruit, which is very toxic to most Drosophila species, was investigated and 51 compounds were abundant enough to be identified by GC-MS. The ripe fruit is characterized by a large amount of carboxylic acids, especially octanoic and hexanoic acids. The biological effects of the ripe fruit and its main acids were investigated with behavioural studies. Octanoic acid is responsible for the general toxicity of the fruit to most Drosophila species; D. sechellia is the only species which is resistant to this acid. Hexanoic acid has a unique eff…
Corrosion in alkanolamine used for acid gas removal: From natural gas processing to CO2 capture
2010
The aim of this paper is to review some of the parameters influencing the corrosivity of alkanolamine solvents used for natural gas purification or for CO2 capture. In the light of literature data and of new experimental results, the influences of temperature and of acid gas loading are discussed. These two parameters appear to have a strong impact on corrosion rates of carbon steel, with extrapolated corrosion rates of several tens of mm/year for the highest temperature and acid gas loading condition.
Antiviral properties of silver nanoparticles against norovirus surrogates and their efficacy in coated polyhydroxyalkanoates systems
2017
Silver nanoparticles (AgNP) have strong broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity and gained increased attention for the development of AgNP based products, including medical and food applications. Initially, the efficacy of AgNP and silver nitrate (AgNO3) was evaluated for inactivating norovirus surrogates, the feline calicivirus (FCV) and the murine norovirus (MNV). These norovirus surrogates were exposed to AgNO3 and AgNP solutions for 24 h at 25 °C and then analyzed by cell-culture assays. Both AgNP and silver ions significantly decreased FCV and MNV infectivity in a dose-dependent manner between concentrations of 2.1 and 21 mg/L. Furthermore, poly (3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (…
Opettajuuden muutos 1950-luvulta 2010-luvulle
2017
Pro gradu -tutkielmani tavoitteena on tutkia, miten opettajuus on muuttunut 1950-luvulta 2010-luvulle ja millaisia ominaisuuksia opettajuudelle annetaan vuosikymmenien saatossa. Tutkimukseni on laadullinen tutkimus, jossa tutkimusmetodina käytän narratiivisuutta. Tutkimukseni aineisto koostuu seitsemästä kirjoitelmasta, jotka on kerätty eri vuosikymmeninä 1950-2010 valmistuneilta luokanopettajilta. Analysoin aineiston narratiivisen kategorisen sisällönanalyysin avulla. Tutkimustulosteni perusteella opettajat määrittelevät opettajuuden samoista osa-alueista koostuvana. Näitä ovat opettajan persoonallisuus, opettajan rooli, opetus, oppilaat ja vanhempien asema. Tulokset osoittavat muutoksen, …
Skanošie žesti 5-6 gadīgu bērnu ritma izjūtas pilnveidei pirmsskolā
2021
Diplomdarbā “Skanošie žesti 5-6 gadīgu bērnu ritma izjūtas pilnveidei pirmsskolā” aktualizētas skanošo žestu sniegtās iespējas ritma izjūtas pilnveides veicināšanai pirmsskolas izglītības procesā. Diplomdarbs sastāv no divām daļām. Pirmajā daļā veikta mūzikas psiholoģijas un pedagoģijas avotu analīze par ritma izjūtas pilnveides iespējām pirmsskolā, pirmsskolas mācību procesu regulējošo dokumentu izpēte par plānotajiem 5-6 gadīgu bērnu sasniedzamajiem rezultātiem ritma izjūtas pilnveidē, kā arī apzināti pirmsskolas pedagogiem pieejamie metodiskie materiāli saistībā ar skanošajiem žestiem. Mūzikas psiholoģijas avotos atklāta ritma izjūtas saistība ar citu kognitīvo procesu, tostarp runas uzt…

Metabolic shift of polyphosphate-accumulating organisms with different levels of polyphosphate storage
2012
Previous studies have shown that polyphosphate-accumulating organisms (PAOs) are able to behave as glycogen-accumulating organisms (GAOs) under different conditions. In this study we investigated the behavior of a culture enriched with Accumulibacter at different levels of polyphosphate (poly-P) storage. The results of stoichiometric ratios Gly degraded/HAc uptake, PHB synthesized/HAc uptake, PHV synthesized/HAc uptake and P release/HAc uptake confirmed a metabolic shift from PAO metabolism to GAO metabolism: PAOs with high poly-P content used the poly-P to obtain adenosine tri-phosphate (ATP), and glycogen (Gly) to obtain nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) and some ATP. In a test whe…
