High-resolution spectroscopy of gaseous $^\mathrm{83m}$Kr conversion electrons with the KATRIN experiment

In this work, we present the first spectroscopic measurements of conversion electrons originating from the decay of metastable gaseous $^\mathrm{83m}$Kr with the Karlsruhe Tritium Neutrino (KATRIN) experiment. The results obtained in this calibration measurement represent a major commissioning milestone for the upcoming direct neutrino mass measurement with KATRIN. The successful campaign demonstrates the functionalities of the full KATRIN beamline. The KATRIN main spectrometer's excellent energy resolution of ~ 1 eV made it possible to determine the narrow K-32 and L$_3$-32 conversion electron line widths with an unprecedented precision of ~ 1 %.

Isotope Distributions in the Reaction ofU238withU238

Radiochemically determined cross sections $\ensuremath{\sigma}(Z, A)$ were used to construct charge and mass distributions for the reaction of 1785-MeV $^{238}\mathrm{U}$ ions with thick $^{238}\mathrm{U}$ targets. Fission of the colliding nuclei is found to dominate. For the surviving uraniumlike fragments an enhancement of yields compared to the Kr + U and Xe + U reactions is observed. The formation of heavy actinides is shown to be associated with the low-energy tails of the broad excitation energy distributions in damped collisions.
From Monomer to Bulk: Appearance of the Structural Motif of Solid Iodine in Small Clusters

Formation of iodine clusters in a solid krypton matrix was studied using resonance Raman spectroscopy with a 1 cm(-1) resolution. The clusters were produced by annealing of the solid and recognized by appearance of additional spectral transitions. Two distinct regions, red-shifted from the fundamental vibrational wavenumber of the isolated I(2) at 211 cm(-1), were observed in the signal. The intermediate region spans the range 196-208 cm(-1), and the ultimate region consists of two peaks at 181 and 190 cm(-1) nearly identical to crystalline I(2). Reorientations and phase transitions in (Kr)1-x(CH4-nDn)x

The condensed isotopic modifications of methane, CH4, CH2D2, and CD4 and their solutions with Kr were investigated using dielectric techniques. The polarizabilities were computed from the permittivities of the pure liquids. Phase diagrams of methane-krypton alloys were deduced in the liquid-solid coexistence region and for the low temperature phases (T<30 K). From the Curielaws, which described the permittivities of the (Kr)1-x(CH2D2)x mixed crystals, the permanent dioole moment of CH2D2 is calculated to be 4 mD. In the octopolar ordered phases of the solid solutions the effective dipole moments are enhanced significantly.
Time-resolved coherent anti-Stokes Raman-scattering measurements of I2 in solid Kr: vibrational dephasing on the ground electronic state at 2.6-32 K.

Time-resolved coherent anti-Stokes Raman-scattering (CARS) measurements are carried out for iodine (I2) in solid krypton matrices. The dependence of vibrational dephasing time on temperature and vibrational quantum number v is studied. The v dependence is approximately quadratic, while the temperature dependence of both vibrational dephasing and spectral shift, although weak, fits the exponential form characteristic of dephasing by pseudolocal phonons. The analysis of the data indicates that the frequency of the pseudolocal phonons is approximately 30 cm(-1). Analysis of broadband x-ray spectra of highly charged krypton from a microcalorimeter detector of an electron-beam ion trap

Spectra of highly charged Kr ions, produced in an electron-beam ion trap (EBIT), have been recorded in a broad x-ray energy band (0.3 keV to 4 keV) with a microcalorimeter detector. Most of the spectral lines have been identified as transitions of B- to Al-like Kr. The transition energies have been determined with 0.2% uncertainty. A semi-empirical EBIT plasma model has been created to calculate a synthetic spectrum of highly charged Kr and to determine a charge state distribution of Kr ions inside the EBIT.
Time-resolved photoabsorption in finite systems: A first-principles NEGF approach

We describe a first-principles NonEquilibrium Green’s Function (NEGF) approach to time-resolved photoabsortion spectroscopy in atomic and nanoscale systems. The method is used to highlight a recently discovered dynamical correlation effect in the spectrum of a Krypton gas subject to a strong ionizing pump pulse. We propose a minimal model that captures the effect, and study the performance of time-local approximations versus time-nonlocal ones. In particular we implement the time-local Hartree-Fock and Markovian second Born (2B) approximation as well as the exact adiabatic approximation within the Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory framework. Nuclear spin and moments of 73Kr and odd—even staggering in the radii of light krypton isotopes

Nuclear spectroscopy measurements in the region of neutron-deficient krypton isotopes have indicated that pronounced shape changes and instabilities occur when the nuclei approach the N = Z line. This is confirmed by isotope shift measurements on krypton [1] yielding an increasing inverted odd—even staggering of the radii [2] from 82Kr (N = 46) to 74Kr (N = 38). We have now completed the published data by measuring the hyperfine structure and isotope shift of 73Kr. This is also interesting in context with a recent β-decay study [3]. The feeding of excited states in 73Br gave strong arguments for the ground-state spin and parity of 73Kr to be 3/2−, in contrast to the adopted assignment of 5/…
