This article evaluates empirically the effect o f market introduction on the level o f regional inequalities and on the polarisation o f economic activities in Poland. We note an increase o f the disparities between regions over the relevant period. The re-polarisation process cannot been explained by a spatial re-allocation of labour force but rather results o f the differentiation of sectoral restructuring between regions the regional diversity o f sectoral adaptation. The search for agglomeration economies explains the spatial concentration o f services and o f added value in the regions where the biggest cities are located. Regulation Support to Industrial Clusters: A Cross-Country Analysis

We empirically investigate the role of regulatory governance and industrial clusters to foster the country’s economic performance. Using the ordinary least-square (OLS) regression for a cross section of countries, including the 25 EU Member States, our findings show that the regulation governance has the strongest effects on the employment rate performing a buffering effect with the cluster development. An antagonist effect occurs for the other economic indicators.

Why do Young People Give up Their Job Search?

The decision to search or not to search for work is usually considered a purely individual choice. However, this is a simplistic view, which ignores important structural and situational aspects of job search behaviour. This article discusses the reasons why long-term unemployed youth in Finland give up their search for work or a student place. The data comprise 28 life course interviews that were analysed by means of content analysis. The data show that young people’s job seeking behaviour is greatly influenced by how they view their labour market position and prospects. In Vitro Dialyzability of Zinc from Different Salts Used in the Supplementation of Infant Formulas

Seven zinc salts--acetate, chloride, lactate, sulfate, citrate, gluconate, and oxide--were added to milk--and soy-based infant formulas to estimate possible differences in zinc availability depending on the type of salt used. For this purpose, an in vitro method that estimates the dialyzability of the element (i.e., the fraction available for absorption) was applied. Zinc dialyzability is always higher in milk-based products than in soy products, even when the total zinc contents are higher in the latter.
