Project-Based Learning: A Case for Situated Translation

The author proposes replacing the folk theoretical ‘conduit’ view of learning that still predominates in Translator Education with a principled understanding of cognitive and learning processes for the design of learning events in Translator Education. A collaborative, project-based educational experience is presented by way of illustration. In conclusion, an argument is made for studying collaborative learning events to gain insight into the multi-facetted nature of the learning process as well as of the translation process itself.

The R-W test is a tool examining the speed and accuracy of thinking used in labor psychology. It is described as a tool „filled with the intellectual component”, however, there is no validation data in the literature confirming that the R-W test exam some aspect of intellectual abilities. Summary: Chromatin organization plays a crucial role in tissue homeostasis. Heterochromatin relaxation and consequent unscheduled mobilization of transposable elements (TEs) are emerging as key contributors of aging and aging-related pathologies, including Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and cancer. However, the mechanisms governing heterochromatin maintenance or its relaxation in pathological conditions remain poorly understood. Here we show that PIN1, the only phosphorylation-specific cis/trans prolyl isomerase, whose loss is associated with premature aging and AD, is essential to preserve heterochromatin. Pētījuma mērķis bija izpētīt kādas saistības pastāv starp depresijas simptomu izteiktību, bērnībā pārciesto nelabvēlīgas pieredzi un agrīnajām neadaptīvām shēmām un noskaidrot, vai bērnības nelabvēlīgas pieredzes rādītāji paredz agrīno neadaptīvu shēmu radītājus un, savukārt, vai agrīno neadaptīvo shēmu rādītāji paredz depresijas simptomu izteiktību personām ar diagnosticētu depresiju un psihiski veselām personām. Pētījumā piedalījās 82 respondenti (visas sievietes), no kuriem 30 respondenti bija pacienti ar diagnosticēto depresiju un 52 psihiski veselas personas. Microbial mutualistic symbiosis is increasingly recognised as a hidden driving force in the ecology of plant–insect interactions. Although plant‐associated and herbivore‐associated symbionts clearly affect interactions between plants and herbivores, the effects of symbionts associated with higher trophic levels has been largely overlooked. At the third‐trophic level, parasitic wasps are a common group of insects that can inject symbiotic viruses (polydnaviruses) and venom into their herbivorous hosts to support parasitoid offspring development. Bakalaura darbs ir veltīts subtitru tulkošanas paņēmienu analīzei tulkojot kolumbiešu seriālu “Mūzikas Nindzjas” no spāņu uz latviešu valodu. Darba mērķis ir analizēt tulkošanas paņēmienu izmantošanu, veicot gan tulkojuma kvalitatīvo, gan tulkojuma un oriģinālteksta salīdzinošo analīzi. Alternative measures of body composition and wage premium: New evidence from Indonesia

This paper examines the relationship between body composition and earnings in a developing country setting. We use body mass index, waist circumference and hip circumference. Exploiting the panel structure of our longitudinal survey, we find that along with BMI, waist circumference is related to higher earnings in Indonesia. peerReviewed
