Abstract The goal of this research was to determine leukocyte rheology at baseline and after chemotactic activation in type I and type II diabetics. Effective Henry's law partitioning and the salting constant of glyoxal in aerosols containing sulfate.

The reversible partitioning of glyoxal was studied in simulation chamber experiments for the first time by time-resolved measurements of gas-phase and particle-phase concentrations in sulfate-containing aerosols. Two complementary methods for the measurement of glyoxal particle-phase concentrations are compared: (1) an offline method utilizing filter sampling of chamber aerosols followed by HPLC-MS/MS analysis and (2) positive matrix factorization (PMF) analysis of aerosol mass spectrometer (AMS) data. Diagonal ear lobe crease and atherosclerosis : a review of the medical literature and dental implications

In Spain a significant number of individuals die from atherosclerotic disease of the coronary and carotid arteries without having classic risk factors and prodromal symptoms. The diagonal ear lobe crease (DELC) has been characterized in the medical literature as a surrogate marker which can identify high risk patients having occult atherosclerosis. This topic however has not been examined in either the medical or dental literature emanating from Spain. Classification of vegetable oils according to their botanical origin using amino acid profiles established by direct infusion mass spectrometry.

Amino acid profiles, established by direct infusion mass spectrometry, have been used to classify vegetable oils according to their botanical origin. The proteins present in hazelnut, sunflower, corn, soybean, olive, avocado, peanut and grapeseed oils were precipitated with acetone, and the residue was hydrolyzed in acid medium, diluted in a hydrochloric acid/ethanol mixture, and infused into the mass spectrometer. The spectra of the hydrolyzed protein extracts showed [M+H]+ ions of the following amino acids: glycine, alanine, serine, proline, valine, threonine, cysteine, isoleucine + leucine, aspartic acid, lysine, glutamic acid, methionine, histidine, phenylalanine, arginine and tyrosine.…

Background: Delaying the transition from minimal cognitive impairment to Alzheimer’s dementia is a major concern in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) therapeutics. Pathological signs of AD occur years before the onset of clinical dementia. Thus, long-term therapeutic approaches, with safe, minimally invasive, and yet efective substances are recommended. There is a need to develop new drugs to delay Alzheimer’s dementia. A comparative study of different derivatization procedures has been performed in order to improve the stability of the reaction products o-phthalaldehyde-N-acetylcysteine (OPA-NAC) polyamines. Procedures such as solution derivatization, solution derivatization followed by retention on a packing support, derivatization on different packing supports and on-column derivatization, have been optimized and compared. The degradation rate constant (k) of the derivative was dependent on the procedure used and on the analyte. Enhancement of retention predictions in reversed-phase liquid chromatography using reference compounds

Abstract The use of reference compounds to correct errors associated with the preparation of mobile phase is studied, in order to enhance modelling of retention for optimisation purposes in reversed-phase liquid chromatography. The method fits individual retention models for a set of reference compounds, which are present in all injections. In second step, mobile-phase composition is corrected for each chromatogram, according to the fitted models of the reference compounds. The selectivity and sensitivity of the proposed methodologies are achieved by using a specific derivatizing reagent.
