Stealth dicing with ultrafast Bessel beams with engineered transverse profiles

International audience; We investigate high-speed glass cleaving with ultrafast laser beams with engineered transverse intensity profile. We achieve accuracy of ~ 1 µm at 25 mm/s and drastically enhance cleavability compared to standard Bessel beams.

Abstract The success of new high-strength steels allows attaining equivalent performances with lower thicknesses and significant weight reduction. The welding of new couples of steel grades requires development and control of joining processes. Thanks to high precision and good flexibility, laser welding became one of the most used processes for joining of dissimilar welded blanks. Laser-induced enhancement of tunneling in NHD2

We apply and explore techniques aiming at enhancing the tunneling by laser fields, originally developed for a one-dimensional model, to a complete six-dimensional vibrational model of the inversion motion in NHD(2). The computational study is performed with the multi-configuration time-dependent Hartree method. Assuming an ideal three-dimensional alignment we obtain a driven tunneling time twenty times smaller than the natural one, in rather good agreement with an oversimplified three-state model. Enhanced alignment and orientation of polar molecules by vibrational resonant adiabatic passage

The authors show that polar molecules can be adiabatically aligned and oriented by laser pulses more efficiently when the laser frequencies are vibrationally resonant. The aligned molecules are found in a superposition of vibrational pendular states, each associated with the alignment of the rotor in one vibrational state. The authors construct the dressed potential associated with this mechanism. Values of detunings and field amplitudes are given to optimize the degree of alignment and orientation for the CO molecule.

Time-resolved photoisomerization of 1,1′-di-tert-butylstilbene and 1,1′-dicyanostilbene

Abstract Photoisomerization of 1,1′-di-tert-butylstilbene ( 3 ) and 1,1′-dicyanostilbene ( 4 ) is monitored with stationary and broadband transient absorption spectroscopy. The electron affinity of the substituents correlates with the shift of the absorption band. The weak extinction of 3 complicates data interpretation, but comparison with earlier measured 1,1′-dimethylstilbene ( 1 ) and 1,1′-diethylstilbene ( 2 ) helps to assign transient spectra and relaxation paths. For 3 a long-lived perpendicular state P is observed with lifetime τ P  = 134 ps in acetonitrile. Measurement of the laser resonance ionization efficiency for lutetium

Abstract The development of a highly efficient resonance ionization scheme for lutetium is presented. A laser ion source, based on the all-solid-state Titanium:sapphire laser system, was used at the 30 keV RISIKO off-line mass separator to characterize different possible optical excitation schemes in respect to their ionization efficiency. The developed laser resonance ionization scheme can be directly applied to the use at radioactive ion beam facilities, e. g. at the CERN-MEDICIS facility, for large-scale production of medical radioisotopes.

Bowl-shape electron donors with absorptions in the visible range of the solar spectrum and their supramolecular assemblies with C 60

We describe the synthesis, electronic, optical and photophysical properties of a family of three electron-donor bowl-shaped organic molecules that absorb light in the whole range of the visible spectrum (up to 800 nm in one case), and associate C60 in solution with binding constants in the range of 104–102 M−1 as measured from both UV-vis and fluorescence titrations in several solvents. These molecules are π-extended derivatives of tetrathiafulvalene, based on a truxene core to which two or three units of dithiole are covalently attached. PHYSICS-based retrieval of scattering albedo and vegetation optical depth using multi-sensor data integration

Vegetation optical depth and scattering albedo are crucial parameters within the widely used τ-ω model for passive microwave remote sensing of vegetation and soil. A multi-sensor data integration approach using ICESat lidar vegetation heights and SMAP radar as well as radiometer data enables a direct retrieval of the two parameters on a physics-derived basis. The crucial step within the retrieval methodology is the calculus of the vegetation scattering coefficient KS, where one exact and three approximated solutions are provided. The geological roots of South America: 4.1 Ga and 3.7 Ga zircon crystals discovered in N.E. Brazil and N.W. Argentina

International audience; We present new LA-ICP-MS in situ geochronological results for seven Eoarchean zircons dated at 3.7 Ga coming from Cretaceous ash layers of NW Argentina and one Hadean single crystal sampled within the São Francisco Craton in NE Brazil. This zircon comprises a zoned magmatic core dated at 4.1 Ga surrounded by a 1.9 Ga overgrowth related to Paleoproterozoic reworking. This Hadean age is consistent with previously published Nd model ages on orthogneisses from the same domain. These two results represent among the oldest geological witnesses discovered to date in South America, which demonstrates the occurrence of a primitive crust. The contrasting age patterns recorded …
