Serum anti-HBs titers were evaluated at the first visit, after vaccine booster (if required) and at visit after two years. Overall, 483 students (mean age = 21.7 years
Sport for job. Differences in cortisol levels in a water polo team at different times of workout
2018
Agonistic sport represents a physically stressful situation associated with the release of catecholamine and cortisol that in turn influence the immune system. This study aimed to investigate the influence, in a team of water polo players, of the emotional processes characterizing the phase of waiting for the race on endocrine changes at the end of an official match. Each player provided two saliva samples before and after three different time phases: (1) rest time, (2) workout and (3) competition. The results of the present study showed a significant increase in salivary cortisol levels before and after the competition an…
Work-Related Stress, Physio-Pathological Mechanisms, and the Influence of Environmental Genetic Factors
2019
Work-related stress is a growing health problem in modern society. The stress response is characterized by numerous neurochemicals, neuroendocrine and immune modifications that involve various neurological systems and circuits, and regulation of the gene expression of the different receptors. In this regard, a lot of research has focused the attention on the role played by the environment in influencing gene expression, which in turn can control the stress response. In particular, genetic factors can moderate the sensitivities of specific types of neural cells or circuits mediating the imprinting of the environment on different biological systems. In this current review, we wish to analyze …
