2021

Aim. The aim of this work is to present a qualitative analysis of the movie proposals prepared by preservice teachers in the context of an educational experience around the ecofeminist movement. The responses to a final questionnaire about sustainability awareness are also analysed.
Methods. The participants were 47 alumni of the Grades of Early Childhood Education and Primary Education at a Spanish university. Investigating Teacher Leadership in ECE Centres in Finland

2016

This study was aimed at investigating the enactment of teacher leadership in early childhood education (ECE) centres in Finland. Association between Serum Heat Shock Proteins and Gamma-Delta T Cells—An Outdated Clue or a New Direction in Searching for an Anticancer Strategy? A …

2021

HSPs demonstrate a strong association with gamma-delta (γδ) T cells. Most of the studies regarding interactions between the parameters were conducted in the 1990s. Despite promising results, the concept of targeting γδ T cells by HSPs seems to be a forgotten direction due to potent non-peptidic phosphoantigens rather than HSPs have been found to be the essential stimulatory components for human γδ cells. Currently, with greater knowledge of lymphocyte diversity, and more accurate diagnostic methods, we decided to study the correlation once again in the neoplastic condition. Twenty-one children with newly diagnosed acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) were enrolled on the study. Serum HSP90 c…

Associations of muscular fitness and body composition in children

2021

Purpose: To examine the associations between muscular fitness (MF) and body composition. Method: MF was assessed with three tests of FitnessGram test battery. Total body fat percentage (BF%), abdominal fat percentage (AF%) and fat-free mass (FFM) were measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). The IOTF body mass index (BMI) cut-offs were used to define healthy weight, overweight, and obesity. Results: MF was inversely associated with BF% and AF%. The children in the moderate and high MF groups had significantly lower BF% and AF% compared with the children in the low MF group within the same BMI category. After adjusting for cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF), BMI and sex, the differen…

2014

To access publisher's full text version of this article. Please click on the hyperlink in Additional Links field. Survival and cure rates for childhood cancers in Europe have greatly improved over the past 40 years and are mostly good, although not in all European countries. The EUROCARE-5 survival study estimates survival of children diagnosed with cancer between 2000 and 2007, assesses whether survival differences among European countries have changed, and investigates changes from 1999 to 2007. We analysed survival data for 157,499 children (age 0-14 years) diagnosed between Jan 1, 1978 and Dec 31, 2007. They came from 74 population-based cancer registries in 29 countries. We calculated …

Reaching toward individualization in planning for children with special needs

2009

Integrating young children with special needs into programs for typically developing children is a current trend. Yet, integration may threaten a teacher's ability to meet the needs of an individual child. The aim of this study was to gain an understanding of the teachers’ orientation in early intervention/early childhood special education. Data from thirteen early childhood generic educators/early childhood special educators were collected to provide a qualitative description of their assessment and planning practices. Findings indicated that generic early childhood/early childhood special educators’ assessment, planning, and programming for meeting the needs of individual children were no…

A representative Spanish national sample of 1103 Spanish parents, 270 fathers and 833 mothers, with children aged 6 to 14, is analysed.
