Organotin(IV) Complexes Containing Sn–O–Se Moieties: A Structural Inventory
2018
This review focuses on organotin compounds exhibiting Sn–O–Se moieties, the molecular structures of which have been previously resolved by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Three distinct classes of compounds have been identified. Thus, the various modes of coordination of selenite, selenate and organoseleninate anions with tin atoms of organotin(IV) fragments are illustrated and detailed.1 Introduction2 Organotin(IV) Selenite Complexes3 Organotin(IV) Selenate Complexes4 Organotin(IV) Organoseleninate Complexes5 Summary
Intramuscular fatty acid composition of lambs given a tanniniferous diet with or without polyethylene glycol supplementation.
2007
The aim of this trial was to investigate the effects that dietary tannins have on lamb intramuscular fatty acids. Twenty-seven lambs were divided into three homogeneous groups: control group, receiving commercial concentrate based on maize; tannin group, fed a diet based on carob pulp (45% as fed basis); PEG group, receiving the same diet as the latter with addition of 42g/kg of polyethylene glycol (PEG, a binding agent that eliminates the effects of condensed tannins). The duration of the trial was 45 d. Intramuscular fatty acids were measured in the longissimus dorsi muscle. The isomer cis-9 trans-11 of linoleic acid (conjugated linoleic acid or CLA) and linolenic acid were higher in the …
Scanning tunneling microscopy investigation of tricycloquinazoline liquid crystals on gold
2000
Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of hexaalkylthioether derivatives of tricycloquinazoline (TCQ) on Au(111) and tungsten diselenide (WSe2) were investigated by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). The Au(111) surfaces were found to be etched by the thioether containing solutions. Corroded surfaces which are similar to gold surfaces that were coated with SAMs of thiols or disulfides were revealed by STM. Atomic adsorption spectroscopy proved that an amount of gold that corresponds to ca. 30% of a monolayer was dissolved in the assembly solutions. On gold, the aromatic cores of the molecules were found to be in face-on orientation. The alkyl substituents were in most cases folded upwards and s…
1-Cycloundecen-3-in
1988

Bis(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazolyl)selenide--a new bidentate bent connector for preparation of 1D and 2D co-ordination polymers.
2007
The synthesis and description of eight polymeric complexes formed by transition metals with the bifurcated ligand bis(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazolyl)selenide are discussed together with X-ray crystal analysis as well as variable temperature magnetic susceptibility and characterization by Mossbauer spectroscopy. Preferable types of binding patterns of the ligand were determined, which include a variation of the bridging modes (cis- and trans-) and of the separation length, where the latter parameter together with bending of the ligand molecule were found to be dependent on the type of co-ordination geometry of the central atom and the nature of the anion. A strategy for increasing the structure d…
Selenium supplementation improves antioxidant capacity in vitro and in vivo in patients with coronary artery disease
2008
Background Selenium is a central determinant of antioxidative glutathione peroxidase 1 (GPx-1) expression and activity. The relevance of selenium supplementation on GPx-1 in coronary artery disease (CAD) needs to be established. We assessed the effect of selenium supplementation on GPx-1 in cell culture and on endothelial function in a prospective clinical trial. Methods Human coronary artery endothelial cells were incubated with 5.78 to 578 nmol/L sodium selenite, Se-methyl-selenocysteine hydrochloride, or seleno-l-methionine. Glutathione peroxidase 1 mRNA and protein expression and activity were measured. Coronary artery disease patients (n = 465) with impaired endothelial function (flow-…
Enzymatic Formation of Raucaffricine, the Major Indole Alkaloid ofRauwolfia serpentinaCell-Suspension Cultures
1991
The major alkaloid from Rauwolfia serpentina cell-suspension cultures, the glucoalkaloid raucaffricine (2), was enzymatically formed from vomilenine (1) and UDPG in presence of microsomal-bound enzyme. This glucosyltransferase exhibits a relatively high substrate specificity with strong preference for 1 and UDPG. The apparent Km values for 1 and UDPG were 40 μM and 0.8 mM, respectively, for raucaffricine formation. Optimum transferase activity was observed at 50° and pH 6.3. The taxonomic distribution of this enzyme seems to be very limited because transferase can he exclusively detected in raucaffricine-producing plant cells.
Effect of ewe feeding system (grass v. concentrate) on intramuscular fatty acids of lambs raised exclusively on maternal milk
2005
AbstractTwenty pregnant Comisana ewes were divided into two groups of 10. One group was allowed to graze a vetch pasture (grass). The second group of animals was housed collectively in a pen and was given hay and concentrates (concentrate). After lambing, all the ewes were allowed to stay with the respective lambs between 18:00 h and 07:00 h of the following day in two different pens. Therefore all the lambs were raised exclusively on maternal milk. The lambs were slaughtered at 38 days of age. Milk and lamb meat (longissimus dorsi muscle) fatty acids were analysed. Ewes on grass produced milk with a lower (P< 0·001) proportion of saturated fatty acids and with a higher proportion of bot…
