National level paths to the mining industry’s Social Licence to Operate (SLO) in Northern Europe: The case of Finland

2020

Abstract Research on the social licence to operate (SLO) has traditionally focused on local communities directly affected by mining operations. There has been a lack of systematic research exploring attitudes to mining among the public at large. Based on a national survey (N = 1091) of Finns’ attitudes towards mining conducted in 2016, we test a theoretical model using path analysis to examine the factors affecting the social licence to operate (SLO) of mining in Finland. The aim is to shed light on the factors affecting SLO at national level in Finland and to add to the growing body of research seeking to understand the mining industry’s SLO at national level in diverse social, economic an…

A system for sign language sentence recognition based on common sense context

2005

The paper proposes a complete framework for sign language recognition that integrates common sense in order to deal with sentences. The proposed system is based on a cognitive architecture allows modeling and managing the knowledge of the recognition process in a simple and robust way. The final abstraction level of this architecture introduces the semantic context and the analysis of the correctness of a sentence given a sequence of recognized signs. Experimentations are presented using the Italian sign language (LIS), and shows that the system maintains the recognition rate high when set of sign grows, correcting erroneous recognized single sign using the context

Customer-oriented counseling for physical activity in older people: study protocol and selected baseline results of a randomized-controlled trial (IS…

2007

The objective of this study is to describe the rationale, design and selected baseline results of a 2-year randomized-controlled trial (RCT) on the effects of physical activity counseling in community-living older people. After a four-phase screening and data-collection process targeting all independently living people in the city center of Jyvaskyla, Finland, six hundred and thirty-two 75–81-year-old cognitively intact, sedentary persons who were able to move independently outdoors at least minimally and willing to take part in the RCT were randomized into intervention and control groups. At baseline, over half of the subjects exercised less than two to three times a month and two-thirds w…

Negotiation in Type 2 Diabetes Counseling: From Problem Recognition to Mutual Acceptance During Lifestyle Counseling

2003

Negotiation, an essential communication activity in lifestyle counseling, has rarely been studied at the micro level of interaction. Furthermore, the evidence for interpersonal negotiation to occur in counseling practice is inconclusive. In this study, the authors describe how negotiation focused on lifestyle changes was produced in nurse-patient interaction. The research data, 73 videotaped diabetes counseling situations, were analyzed using conversation analysis. The process of negotiation consisted of recognizing the problems in the patients' health behavior, offering proposals as solutions to the problems, and reaching an agreement on them. Negotiation had characteristics similar to th…

Analytically solvable 2×2 PT -symmetry dynamics from su(1,1)-symmetry problems ANALYTICALLY SOLVABLE 2×2 PT- SYMMETRY ... R. GRIMAUDO et al.

2019

A protocol for explicitly constructing the exact time-evolution operators generated by 2×2 time-dependent PT-symmetry Hamiltonians is reported. Its mathematical applicability is illustrated with the help of appropriate examples. The physical relevance of the proposed approach within gain-loss system scenarios, like two coupled waveguides, is discussed in detail.

Communication: spin-orbit splittings in degenerate open-shell states via Mukherjee's multireference coupled-cluster theory: a measure for the couplin…

2012

We propose a generally applicable scheme for the computation of spin-orbit (SO) splittings in degenerate open-shell systems using multireference coupled-cluster (MRCC) theory. As a specific method, Mukherjee's version of MRCC (Mk-MRCC) in conjunction with an effective mean-field SO operator is adapted for this purpose. An expression for the SO splittings is derived and implemented using Mk-MRCC analytic derivative techniques. The computed SO splittings are found to be in satisfactory agreement with experimental data. Due to the symmetry properties of the SO operator, SO splittings can be considered a quality measure for the coupling between reference determinants in Jeziorski-Monkhorst base…

Interactive Decision Aids

2011

Decision support systems assist people in making a decision or choosing a course of action in a nonroutine situation that requires judgment (Haubl and Trifts 2000; Kasper 1996). In online webstores, vendors can easily offer highly interactive types of decision support. These co-called interactive decision aids (IDA) “help consumers in making informed purchase decisions amidst the vast availability of online product offerings” (Wang and Benbasat 2009, p. 3). However, the application of IDA is not restricted to purchase decisions. They are general enough to be of use in any kind of choice task where alternatives are known.

État des lieux et évaluation de la surveillance des Staphylococcus aureus résistants à la méticilline (SARM) : PMSI versus surveillance Raisin

2013

Abstract Background The surveillance of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a national priority. The rate of MRSA infections is one of six indicators tracked by the Department of Health. Since 2002, the French institute for public health surveillance (InVS) has monitored MRSA infections to estimate incidence density. Today, the use of the French administrative database (PMSI) could facilitate this surveillance. The aim of this study was to compare MRSA incidence density computed at a national level using PMSI databases with the results from the InVS taken as the reference. Methods PMSI databases for the years 2006 to 2009 were used. The reference results were those publish…

Is stress perceived differently in relationships with parents and peers? Inter‐ and intra‐regional comparisons on adolescents from 21 nations

2012

This study investigated how adolescents (mean age of 15 years) from 21 countries perceived parent- and peer-related stress. Across countries, adolescents perceived parent-related stress at considerably greater levels than peer-related stress. Adolescents assigned to six geographical regions differed significantly in overall stress levels as well as in the disparity between perceived stress levels in the parent and peer domain. Regional comparisons revealed that adolescents from Southern Europe exhibited the highest levels of parent-related stress, followed by adolescents from Latin America, the Middle East, and Asia. The stress levels of adolescents from Central European and North American …

Contextual and local determinants associated with the achievement of goals in the endodontics specialty in Brazilian dental speciality centres: A mul…

2021

To assess which factors were associated with the achievement of endodontic goals.Cross-sectional study using secondary data from the second cycle of the Program for the Improvement of Access and Quality in the dental speciality centres-in Portuguese PMAQ-CEO. The independent variables extracted from this database were related to dental speciality centres (CEO in Portuguese). In addition, variables referring to the CEO host city were incorporated into the model. The outcome variable was the number of endodontic goals achieved calculated from the production of the CEO available in the Ambulatory Health Information System in 2018. Descriptive analyses and multilevel Poisson regression were per…
