On two classes of finite supersoluble groups

2017

ABSTRACTLet ℨ be a complete set of Sylow subgroups of a finite group G, that is, a set composed of a Sylow p-subgroup of G for each p dividing the order of G. A subgroup H of G is called ℨ-S-semipermutable if H permutes with every Sylow p-subgroup of G in ℨ for all p∉π(H); H is said to be ℨ-S-seminormal if it is normalized by every Sylow p-subgroup of G in ℨ for all p∉π(H). The main aim of this paper is to characterize the ℨ-MS-groups, or groups G in which the maximal subgroups of every Sylow subgroup in ℨ are ℨ-S-semipermutable in G and the ℨ-MSN-groups, or groups in which the maximal subgroups of every Sylow subgroup in ℨ are ℨ-S-seminormal in G.

Codimension growth of central polynomials of Lie algebras

2019

Abstract Let L be a finite-dimensional simple Lie algebra over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero and let I be the T-ideal of polynomial identities of the adjoint representation of L. We prove that the number of multilinear central polynomials in n variables, linearly independent modulo I, grows exponentially like ( dim ⁡ L ) n {(\dim L)^{n}} .

p −1-Linear Maps in Algebra and Geometry

2012

At least since Habousch’s proof of Kempf’s vanishing theorem, Frobenius splitting techniques have played a crucial role in geometric representation theory and algebraic geometry over a field of positive characteristic. In this article we survey some recent developments which grew out of the confluence of Frobenius splitting techniques and tight closure theory and which provide a framework for higher dimension geometry in positive characteristic. We focus on local properties, i.e. singularities, test ideals, and local cohomology on the one hand and global geometric applicatioms to vanishing theorems and lifting of sections on the other.

Generalised bisection method for optimum ultrasonic ray tracing and focusing in multi-layered structures

2021

Ultrasonic testing has been used for many decades, proving itself very efficient for detecting defects in many industrial sectors. The desire to apply ultrasonic testing to geometrically complex structures, and to anisotropic, inhomogeneous materials, together with the advent of more powerful electronics and software, is constantly pushing the applicability of ultrasonic waves to their limits. General ray tracing models, suitable for calculating the proper incident angle of single element probes and the proper time delay of phased array, are currently required. They can support the development of new imaging techniques, as Full Matrix Capture and Total Focusing Method, and the execution of …

Impact of the erase algorithms on flash memory lifetime

2017

This paper presents a comparative study on the impact of the erase algorithm on flash memory lifetime, to demonstrate how the reduction of overall stress, suffered by memories, will increase their lifetime, thanks to a smart management of erase operations. To this purpose a fixed erase voltage, equal to the maximum value and the maximum time-window, was taken as the reference test; while an algorithm with adaptive voltage levels and the same overall time-window was designed and implemented in order to compare their experimental results. This study was carried out by using an innovative Automated Test Equipment, named Portable-ATE, tailored for Memory Test Chip and designed for performance e…

The filter and calibration wheel for the ATHENA wide field imager

2016

The planned filter and calibration wheel for the Wide Field Imager (WFI) instrument on Athena is presented. With four selectable positions it provides the necessary functions, in particular an UV/VIS blocking filter for the WFI detectors and a calibration source. Challenges for the filter wheel design are the large volume and mass of the subsystem, the implementation of a robust mechanism and the protection of the ultra-thin filter with an area of 160 mm square. This paper describes performed trade-offs based on simulation results and describes the baseline design in detail. Reliable solutions are envisaged for the conceptual design of the filter and calibration wheel. Four different varian…

Maximum Torque Per Ampere control algorithm for low saliency ratio interior permanent magnet synchronous motors

2017

This paper presents an investigation on the comparison between the Maximum Torque Per Ampere (MTPA) and the Field Orientation Control (FOC) algorithms for interior permanent magnet synchronous machines (IPMSMs). In particular, this study was carried out on a small-power IPMSM with low salience ratio. Both control algorithms have been implemented in the Matlab/Simulink environment, obtaining promising results.

Ultra-Wide Band Gap in Two-Dimensional Phononic Crystal with Combined Convex and Concave Holes

2017

A phononic crystal with an ultra‐wide band gap is proposed, whose unit cell consists of a cross‐like concave hole in the center and four square convex holes at the corners. The dispersion relations, modal kinetic energy ratio, and eigenmodes at edges of the band gaps are investigated by using the finite element method. The influence of the geometrical parameters of the convex and concave holes on the band gaps is further analyzed. After optimization, an ultra‐wide band gap with gap‐to‐midgap ratio of 156.0% is achieved, with the filling fraction keeping a relative small value. Numerical results illustrate that the combination of convex and concave holes is a practicable direction for struct…
