Electromagnetic behaviour of superconductive amorphous metals

The penetration depth of the magnetic field into an amorphous superconductor is calculated. The ratio of the London penetration depth δL to the electron free path le under zero temperature is above unity for almost all amorphous metals. That is why pure metals, in a superconducting state, change from type I superconductors to type II superconductors during the crystalline–amorphous transition.

The history of 17th-century London was strappingly marked by events connected with death on a massive scale: the plague of 1665, which took the toll of around 100,000 lives, and the great fire of 1666, which destroyed the homes of 70,000 inhabitants, causing death to an unknown number of Londoners, whose bodies had melted in the heat. This article attempts, primarily, to explore the images of, first, the fatal disease and, then, death and decay as presented in Daniel Defoe’s renowned account of the plague, alongside his narrative techniques he utilised in it to make his portrayals of people’s personal tragedies more vivid and credible to his readers decades later.

The synthesis and spectroscopic and structural characterization of an extensive series of acyclic, monomeric tetrylene dichalcogenolates of formula M(ChAr)2 (M = Si, Ge, Sn, Pb; Ch = O, S, or Se; Ar = bulky m-terphenyl ligand, including two new acyclic silylenes) are described. They were found to possess several unusual features-the most notable of which is their strong tendency to display acute interligand, Ch-M-Ch, bond angles that are often well below 90°. It is commonly present in people with dementia but these risks have rarely been studied in this population. High-level quantum-chemical methods show that the binding in the inclusion complex of hexamethylbenzene (HMB) in 6-cycloparaphenilacetylene (6-CPPA) cannot be explained only in terms of electrostatic interactions - caused by the polarization associated to curved Ï-conjugated systems - and the inclusion of dispersion forces is definitely needed.
