Control of target cell survival in thyroid autoimmunity by T helper cytokines via regulation of apoptotic proteins

After autoimmune inflammation, interactions between CD95 and its ligand (CD95L) mediate thyrocyte destruction in Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT). Conversely, thyroid autoimmune processes that lead to Graves' disease (GD) result in autoantibody-mediated thyrotropin receptor stimulation without thyrocyte depletion. We found that GD thyrocytes expressed CD95 and CD95L in a similar manner to HT thyrocytes, but did not undergo CD95-induced apoptosis either in vivo or in vitro. This pattern was due to the differential production of TH1 and TH2 cytokines. The role of regulatory T cell (Treg) subsets in gestational diabetes mellitus.

Physiological changes during normal pregnancy are characterized by an inflammatory immune response and insulin resistance. Therefore, we hypothesize that gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) may be caused by an inappropriate adaption of the maternal immune system to pregnancy. In this study we examined the role of regulatory T cell (Treg) differentiation for the development of GDM during pregnancy. Background. The seroma is one of the most common complications in the axillary lymph nodal dissection (different surgical approaches have been tried to reduce the seroma incidence). Trematodes Alaria alata raksturojums dažādās infrapopulācijās Latvijā un ģints analīze, pielietojot molekulārās bioloģijas metodes

Pētījuma mērķis bija noteikt Alaria alata sastopamību dažādās infrapopulācijās Latvijā un veikt ģints filoģenētisko koku analīzi. Pētījuma gaitā tika noteikta A. alata sastopamība meža cūkās (77%), lapsās (88%) un jenotsuņos (84%). Baltijas valstīs ekstensitāte definitīvajos saimniekos ir līdzīga. Salīdzinot divas mezocerkāriju klātbūtnes noteikšanas metodes, tika konstatēts, ka, pielietojot Alaria migrācijas metodi, mezocerkārijus konstatē 10 reizes biežāk salīdzinot ar līdz šim izmantoto metodi. Data from: Moving in the Anthropocene: global reductions in terrestrial mammalian movements

Animal movement is fundamental for ecosystem functioning and species survival, yet the effects of the anthropogenic footprint on animal movements have not been estimated across species. Using a unique GPS-tracking database of 803 individuals across 57 species, we found that movements of mammals in areas with a comparatively high human footprint were on average one-half to one-third the extent of their movements in areas with a low human footprint. We attribute this reduction to behavioral changes of individual animals and to the exclusion of species with long-range movements from areas with higher human impact. Presencia de Vulpes praeglacialis (Kormos, 1932) en el yacimiento pleistoceno de la Sierra de Quibas (Abanilla, Murcia)

We describe the first remains of Canidae from the Lower Pleistocene karstic locality of Quibas (Abanillas, Murcia) that increasing the representation of carnivores in this site. These fossils are identified as Vulpes praeglacialis, the typical Lower Pleistocene fox. This assignment is based on their small size and the poorly developed posterior cuspid of the p/3.

IL-21 Regulates the Differentiation of a Human γδ T Cell Subset Equipped with B Cell Helper Activity

Vγ9Vδ2 T lymphocytes recognize nonpeptidic antigens without presentation by MHC molecules and display pleiotropic features. Here we report that coculture of Vγ9Vδ2 cells with phosphoantigen and IL-21 leads to selective expression of the transcription repressor Bcl-6 and polarization toward a lymphocyte subset displaying features of follicular B-helper T (T(FH)) cells. T(FH) like Vγ9Vδ2 cells have a predominant central memory (CD27(+)CD45RA(-)) phenotype and express ICOS, CD40L and CXCR5. Besides the signal generated in a T lymphocyte after triggering the T cell receptor (TcR), most lymphocytes need a "second signal" to become fully activated. The necessity and nature of the "second signal" differs between different types of T cells. At the level of CD4-positive T helper lymphocytes interleukin 1 (IL 1) serves as "second signal" for those of the TH2 subtype (IL4, 5, 6 producer) but not for those of the TH1 subtype (IL 2, IFN-gamma producer).
