Painful bone lesions, both benign and metastatic, are often managed using conventional analgesics. However, the treatment response is not immediate and is often associated with side-effects. Radionuclide therapy is used for pain palliation in bone metastases as well as some benign neoplasms. Endoradiotherapy has direct impact on the pain-producing bone elements, and hence, response is significant, with minimal or no side-effects. The subventricular zone (SVZ) is the largest germinal layer in the adult mammalian brain and comprises stem cells, transit-amplifying progenitors, and committed neuroblasts. Although the SVZ contains the highest concentration of dividing cells in the adult brain, the intracellular mechanisms controlling their proliferation have not been elucidated. Background Artesunate is an antimalarial agent with broad anti-cancer activity in in vitro and animal experiments and case reports. Artesunate has not been studied in rigorous clinical trials for anticancer effects. Aim To determine the anticancer effect and tolerability of oral artesunate in colorectal cancer (CRC). Endplate preparations of the rat left hemidiaphragm were incubated with [3H]choline to label neuronal transmitter stores. Nerve evoked release of newly-synthesized [3H]acetylcholine was measured in the absence of cholinesterase inhibitors to investigate whether snake venom neurotoxins by blocking presynaptic nicotinic autoreceptors affect evoked transmitter release. Modification of the rat aortic wall during ageing; possible relation with decrease of peptidergic innervation.

Structural changes of the male rat aorta were followed from birth to old age in male and female rats. In males, the vessel media width and area progressively increase concomitantly with a decrease of nuclei density during ageing, suggesting an hypertrophy of the smooth muscle cells. These correlations were however not evidenced in females. TUNEL-positive cells were found in media of 4 and 6 months in both sexes, mainly on the luminal side and in the adventitia. In this study, linear poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and novel linear-hyperbranched, amphiphilic polyglycerol (hbPG) polymers with cholesterol (Ch) as a lipid anchor moiety were radiolabeled with fluorine-18 via copper-catalyzed click chemistry. In vivo investigations via positron emission tomography (PET) and ex vivo biodistribution in mice were conducted. An unexpected result arising from a previous characterization of the scarab beetle Bubas bison (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) heterochromatin was its unusual homogeneous reaction to different staining methods. In particular, silver stainability of heterochromatic ends of all chromosomes prevented identification of the number of rDNA transcriptionally active regions. Ruthenium red staining of polyanion containing structures in sections from epoxy-resin embedded tissues

Summary Staining by ruthenium red (0.5 mg/ml in borate buffer at pH = 9.2) has been used for light and electron microscopic visualization of polyanion containing structures in sections from glutaraldehyde-fixed, epoxy-embedded tissues. This staining technique can be applied in a simple and rapid way, showing the reactive cell components with suitable resolution and contrast. Preliminary spectrophotometric studies show the correspondence in absorption characteristics of the dye which is bound to polyanions in situ or in vitro .
