Oculoectodermal syndrome: Report of a new case with a broad clinical spectrum
2014
Oculoectodermal syndrome (OMIM 600268) is rare and characterized by aplasia cutis congenita, epibulbar dermoids, and other abnormalities. We report herein on a newly recognized patient with oculoectodermal syndrome, which is the 19th reported patient with OES. The boy aged six years demonstrated a broad clinical spectrum of this condition, including aplasia cutis congenita, epibulbar dermoids, hyperkeratotic papule, mildly enlarged cisterna magna, and an enlarged fluid space in the quadrigeminal cistern, suggesting a cyst. He also manifested anomalies not reported associated with this disorder, including systematized epidermal nevus following Blaschko's lines, hypopigmented skin lesions, an…
Prognostic factors in a large multi-institutional series of papillary renal cell carcinoma.
2011
OBJECTIVES To investigate cancer-related outcomes and prognostic factors of papillary renal cell carcinoma (pRCC) in a large multicentre data set. Oncological outcome and prognostic factors of pRCC have been limitedly evaluated in comparison with the most common RCC subtype, clear cell RCC. PATIENTS AND METHODS From a multicentre retrospective database, including 5463 patients who were surgically treated for RCC at 16 Italian academic centres between 1995 and 2007, 577 patients with pRCC were identified. Univariable and multivariable Cox regression models were performed to identify prognostic factors predictive of recurrence-free survival (RFS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) after surge…
Export Barriers and Strategic Grouping
2007
Abstract The purpose of our work is to investigate the export strategy of international business by explicitly comparing exporting firms with non-exporting ones. This task has been undertaken by having recourse to a very large sample with more than 55,000 registered Spanish enterprises from all commercial sectors. Using this sample, we try to demonstrate that exporters and non-exporters belong to different strategic groups, with different profit levels. The existence of three kinds of barriers (managerial, organisational and external) constrains migration of non-exporting enterprises to the exporting group. However, the conclusions herein presented point at some ways of avoiding these barri…
Multiplicity dependence of light (anti-)nuclei production in p–Pb collisions at sNN=5.02 TeV
2020
The measurement of the deuteron and anti- deuteron production in the rapidity range −1 < y < 0 as a function of transverse momentum and event multiplicity in p–Pb collisions at √sNN= 5.02 TeV is presented. (Anti-)deuterons are identified via their specific energy loss dE/dxand via their time-of-flight. Their production in p–Pb collisions is compared to pp and Pb–Pb collisions and is discussed within the context of thermal and coalescence models. The ratio of integrated yields of deuterons to protons (d/p) shows a significant increase as a function of the charged-particle multiplicity of the event starting from values similar to those observed in pp collisions at low multiplicities and appro…
Effect of the height-to-diameter ratio on the mass transfer and mixing performance of a biotrickling filter
2017
BACKGROUND Biotrickling filters (BTFs) are among the most widely used biological technologies for air pollution control. The pollutant removal rate in BTFs relies to a large extent on its gas–liquid mass transfer performance. Therefore, knowledge of the design parameters affecting the mass transfer and mixing performance of full-scale BTFs is of paramount importance. RESULTS This work showed that the height-to-diameter (H/D) ratio is an important parameter in the design of BTFs devoted to air pollution control. The H/D ratio significantly affected the mass transfer and mixing performance of the BTF with and without additional stirring in the holding tank. It was observed that under the same…
Design of a multifunctionalizable BODIPY platform for the facile elaboration of a large series of gold(i)-based optical theranostics.
2018
A simple trifunctional BODIPY platform was designed. The high potential of this platform was validated via the elaboration of twelve optical theranostics. More specifically, we reported on the synthesis, the characterization, the photophysical properties, and the evaluation of the hydrophilicity properties of the different BODIPY derivatives, as well as a theoretical rationalization of the intriguing chemical behavior of some of them. The antiproliferative evaluation and confocal imaging of the different compounds in three human and murine cancer cell lines were performed and analysed, along with the measurement of gold(I) uptake in one cancer cell line via ICP-MS.
Turbulence structures over irregular rough surfaces
2010
Turbulent flow in a channel with irregular two-dimensional rough surfaces is analysed through wall-resolving large eddy simulation (LES). Both walls of the channel are roughened through the superimposition of sinusoidal functions having random amplitude and four different wavelengths. The downward shift of the velocity profile in the log region due to the roughness, known as roughness function, is well captured in the simulations. The spanwise and wall-normal turbulence intensities are found to increase with the roughness height, while the streamwise component decreases. The analysis of the Reynolds stress anisotropy tensor highlights a tendency towards isotropisation, confirmed by the vort…
Large area perovskite light-emitting diodes by gas-assisted crystallization:
2019
Halide perovskites have been gaining considerable attention recently for use in light-emitting applications, due to their bandgap tunability, color purity and low cost fabrication methods. However, current fabrication techniques limit the processing to small-area devices. Here, we show that a facile N 2 gas-quenching technique can be used to make methylammonium lead bromide-based perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) with a peak luminance of 6600 cd m −2 and a current efficiency of 7.0 cd A −1 . We use this strategy to upscale PeLEDs to large-area substrates (230 cm 2 ) by developing a protocol for slot-die coating combined with gas-quenching. The resulting large area devices (9 device…

The manipulation of ions using electromagnetic traps
1992
Electromagnetic traps, in addition to providing very clean and gentle confinement for very precise and sensitive observation of charged particles, are very versatile devices for collecting and preparing charged particles from outside sources for observation by devices which are also outside, devices which may in themselves be other electromagnetic traps. This paper introduces the basic principles of using electromagnetic traps for collecting and cooling and presents some preliminary test results from using Paul traps for these purposes. Specifically, in relatively modest Paul traps with 28 mm between end electrodes a collection efficiency of 0.2% was achieved for a 60 keV DC beam of 132Xe i…
