The main goal of U. Karatkevič’s work has always been an attempt to revive and strengthen the sense of national identity of Belarusians. There was no writer in Belarusian literature who devoted all his work to the history of his own nation. In his works, the writer described the ups and downs of Belarusians, showed their attempts to achieve independence, shaped in his reader the basis of Belarusian national identity. In the 1950s and 1960s in the USSR, it was not easy to promote the true history of Belarus, beauty Belarusian language and Belarusian national identity. This paper investigated the intestinal distribution and fecundity of 2 species ofDiplostomumparasites,D. spathaceumandD. pseudospathaceum, in 2 species of definitive hosts, herring gull (Larus argentatus) and common gull (L. canus), using both empirical field data and experimental infections. At the level of individual hosts, the parasite species occupied different parts within the intestine, but the fecundity of the worms, measured as the number of eggs in the uterus, did not differ between the parasite species except in wild common gulls. Abstract Background The public health systems of the post-Soviet states have evolved from the san-epid system, which dominated public health practice throughout the former Soviet Union. Since independence, reforms have taken different directions. This article provides a cross-country comparison of public health reform processes and contents in 10 post-Soviet states.
