Source linewidth effects in temporal imaging of Gaussian Schell-model pulses

A transform-limited Gaussian pulse generated from an externally modulated stationary source is launched within a temporal imaging system composed of a second-order dispersion followed by a time lens and a subsequent quadratic dispersion. We consider the effect of the statistical properties of the emitted light for temporal imaging. In particular, it is shown that the design parameters that ensure a received signal with the minimum root-mean-square (rms) width achievable, which is called the temporal image of the incident pulse, are strongly dependent on the coherence properties of the input waveform. A Novel Method Of Measuring Light Absorption On A Self-Assembled Single Quantum Dot

Abstract. We present a novel method by wich excitonic interband optical transitions within single InAs self-assembled quantum dots can be directly observed in a transmission experiment. Due to the extremely high resolution of the tecnique, individual peaks associated to single exciton absorption resonances in single quantum dots can be spectrally resolved. Using this technique we investigate the oscillator strength, homogeneous linewidth and fine structure splitting in a collection of such individual resonances.

Total angular momenta of even-parity autoionizing levels and odd-parity high-lying levels of atomic uranium

Using three-step resonance ionization spectroscopy, over 200 even-parity autoionizing (AI) levels of atomic uranium, including Rydberg series converging to the second lowest ionic level (6L 11/2o), were observed in the 49 930–51 200 cm−1 energy range. Total angular momenta (J values) of these levels were determined by a polarization combination method as well as a method based on the J-momentum selection rule. Using the AI levels of which J values were determined unambiguously, unique J values were also assigned for about 70 high-lying odd-parity levels. The observed J-dependence on autoionization linewidth is interpreted as being due to a centrifugal potential barrier.

Hydrogen CARS thermometry in H2-N2 mixtures at high pressure and medium temperatures: influence of linewidths models

International audience; In order to improve the accuracy of H2 CARS thermometry, H2 Q-branch CARS spectra have been recorded for various H2-N2 mixtures in a high-pressure cell at different pressures and temperatures (up to 40 bar and 875 K). Due to the low spectral resolution of broadband CARS experiments, the relevant spectral lineshape factor is the linewidth ratio G(Q(3))/G(Q(1)), since Q(1) and Q(3) are the most intense lines of the Q-branch spectrum in this temperature range. For the first time, the speed-inhomogeneous effects are accounted for in the simulation of the CARS profiles. Ultraviolet quasi-phase-matched second harmonic generation in surface periodically poled lithium niobate optical waveguides

The compatibility of low concentration (alpha-phase) proton exchange channel waveguides with electric field surface periodic poling of congruent lithium niobate (SPPLN) crystals has been experimentally demonstrated. With such waveguides, we obtained ultraviolet second harmonic generation (SHG) by first order quasi-phase-matching (QPM), a result made possible by the fabrication, on Z-cut LN crystals, of periodic structures with a pitch down to 750 nm. Nonlinear copropagating QPM-SHG measurements have been carried out on such structures. The pump source was a Ti:sapphire laser with a tunability range of 700-980 nm and a 40 GHz linewidth. Photoelectron lifetime determination of Ag(1 1 1) films at the Fermi surface

The electronic properties of 10 monolayers Ag(111) films deposited onto Si(111)-7 x 7 substrates at room temperature have been studied by scanning the photoelectron intensity at the Fermi level in different symmetry directions. The main features observed in these profiles correspond to Lorentzian-like peaks produced by the pass of the sp band through the Fermi level. A simple model has been developed, which connects the photoemission peak linewidth with the lifetime of photoelectrons excited from the Fermi level. Plasmonic Focusing Reduces Ensemble Linewidth of Silver-Coated Gold Nanorods

Silver coating gold nanorods reduces the ensemble plasmon line width by changing the relation connecting particle shape and plasmon resonance wavelength. This change, we term "plasmonic focusing", leads to less variation of resonance wavelengths for the same particle size distribution. We also find smaller single particle linewidth comparing resonances at the same wavelength but show that this does not contribute to the ensemble linewidth narrowing.

Landau damping in high-temperature superconductors

We investigate the decay of a phonon into single-electron excitations in the cuprate superconductors. In a clean crystal the screening of the longitudinal phonon field cancels singularity of the Landau damping threshold and makes it experimentally unobservable. In a dirty metal the phase volume of the electrons involved in damping is small, which reduces the probability of the phonon decay. However, in this case the observation of dependence between the phonon linewidth and light penetration depth is more favorable than in the clean metal because the damping has no threshold.

A near-field actuated optical nanocavity

International audience; We demonstrate here that switching and tuning of a nanocavity resonance can be achieved by approaching a sub-micrometer tip inside its evanescent near-field. The resonance energy is tuned over a wide spectral range (Δλ/λ~10-3) without significant deterioration of the cavity peak-transmittance and of the resonance linewidth. Such a result is achieved by taking benefits from a weak tip-cavity interaction regime in which the tip behaves as a pure optical path length modulator.
