Qui Exsitum Parentes Dederunt : a formulation in prose of the immatura (praepostera) mors topos on a roman inscription in ager Tarraconensis (Renau, …

2016

Not only the graphic and linguistic analysis, but also the typical tradition in Latin sepulchral inscriptions, suggest that the final sentence, which does not belong to the usual form epigraphy prose, should be interpreted as a formulation of the immatura (praepostera) mors topos

Il vendicatore imperfetto:Egisto nella riscrittura senecana

2009

This paper analyses the transformation of Aegisthus character in Seneca's Agamemnon. In this drama, the son of Thyestes, born by incest, becomes a type of corrupted avenger, whose heroic imperfection carries out the revenge on Agamemnon in the peculiar way of his father, that is to say by adultery and blood confusion. The role of Aegisthus in the play shows clearly the cultural meaning attributed from Seneca to the plot of vengeance: if Greek revenge was "a solution", a form of necessary repayment to a violation, restoring the regularity of cosmos, Senecan revenge is a criminal competition establishing the chaos, corresponding to virtutum certamen that, in Roman society, opposed fathers and…

L'exemplum di Scipione l'Africano in Sen. dial. XII 12 6: una proposta di esegesi.

2012

The analysis of literary source shows in the exemplum paupertatis of P.Cornelius Scipio Africanus, included by Seneca in Consolatio ad Heluiam matrem, a structure which conforms to a greek rhetorical pattern(commander virtous, but poor, which leaves no dowry to his daughters). In our opinion, Seneca's paternity justifiesthe absence of exemplum into other works prior to Seneca.

A new application for nickel foam in alkaline fuel cells

2009

The use of nickel foam as an electrode substrate in alkaline fuel cells (AFCs) has been investigated for bi-polar cells incorporating an electrically conducting gas diffusion layer. This contribution focuses on the cathode, and draws comparisons between nickel foam and nickel mesh substrates. One of the principal electrocatalysts for the cathodic reduction of oxygen is silver, so an improvement in electrochemical performance was obtained by electroplating the nickel foam with silver. The electrodeposition process was optimised to maximise electrochemical performance with a minimum of silver deposited. Nickel foam, which is less expensive than the usual nickel mesh, appears to be a good subs…

Total oxidation of propane in vanadia-promoted platinum-alumina catalysts: Influence of the order of impregnation

2015

Differently prepared vanadium promoted Pt/alumina catalysts have been prepared, characterized and tested for propane total oxidation. V-promoted Pt/Al2O3 catalysts have shown remarkably higher catalytic activity than V-free Pt/Al2O3 catalyst. Among V-promoted Pt catalysts that prepared by coimpregnation gave the highest alkane conversions in the whole range of reaction temperatures studied. Factors such as Pt particle size or the oxidation state of platinum do not seem to be the responsible for the enhanced performance. Modification of the redox properties of the catalyst (i.e. high reducibility of vanadium species) likely provoked by the close contact between platinum particles and vanadiu…

Synthesis, Characterization, and Cu(2+) Coordination Studies of a 3-Hydroxy-4-pyridinone Aza Scorpiand Derivative.

2016

The synthesis, acid-base behavior, and Cu(2+) coordination chemistry of a new ligand (L1) consisting of an azamacrocyclic core appended with a lateral chain containing a 3-hydroxy-2-methyl-4(1H)-pyridinone group have been studied by potentiometry, cyclic voltammetry, and NMR and UV-vis spectroscopy. UV-vis and NMR studies showed that phenolate group was protonated at the highest pH values [log K = 9.72(1)]. Potentiometric studies point out the formation of Cu(2+) complexes of 1:2, 2:2, 4:3, 1:1, and 2:1 Cu(2+)/L1 stoichiometries. UV-vis analysis and electrochemical studies evidence the implication of the pyridinone moieties in the metal coordination of the 1:2 Cu(2+)/L1 complexes. L1 shows …

Optimized bath for electroless deposition of palladium on amorphous alumina membranes

2006

A new bath for the electroless deposition of palladium on anodic alumina (AA) membranes is proposed. It was found that the optimal conditions for the uniform deposition of palladium, with minimal damage to the AA membranes, were under conditions of pH 8.4 and plating times shorter than 30 min. The deposited Pd layer was detected by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis. The morphology of the AA membrane before and after plating was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). EDX analysis revealed that palladium was deposited only on the surfaces of the membrane and Sn ions, coming from the sensitizing bath, were incorporated into the palladium layer. EDTA in…

Synergistic Anticancer Therapy by Ovalbumin Encapsulation-Enabled Tandem Reactive Oxygen Species Generation

2020

Abstract The anticancer efficacy of photodynamic therapy (PDT) is limited due to the hypoxic features of solid tumors. We report synergistic PDT/chemotherapy with integrated tandem Fenton reactions mediated by ovalbumin encapsulation for improved in vivo anticancer therapy via an enhanced reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation mechanism. O2 .− produced by the PDT is converted to H2O2 by superoxide dismutase, followed by the transformation of H2O2 to the highly toxic .OH via Fenton reactions by Fe2+ originating from the dissolution of co‐loaded Fe3O4 nanoparticles. The PDT process further facilitates the endosomal/lysosomal escape of the active agents and enhances their intracellular deliv…
