Protective effects of plasma replacement fluids on erythrocytes exposed to mechanical stress

Haemoglobin release from 40 suspensions of packed red blood cells in modified fluid gelatin, 4% albumin solution, 6% hydroxyethyl starch and normal saline was investigated in vitro during circulation with a roller pump from a heart-lung machine for 120 min at a flow rate of 2.5 l.min-1 at room temperature. Four groups of guinea pigs received different doses of cis-platinum. SEM and TEM showed a direct relation between the dose and the damage. The first row of OHC is the first one to be damaged. The IHC are more resistant than the OHC. The pattern of destruction is similar to the one produced by the aminoglucoside antibiotics.
Bafetinib inhibits functional responses of human eosinophils in vitro

Eosinophils play a prominent role in the process of allergic inflammation. Non-receptor associated Lyn tyrosine kinases generate key initial signals in eosinophils. Bafetinib, a specific Abl/Lyn tyrosine kinase inhibitor has shown a potent antiproliferative activity in leukemic cells, but its effects on eosinophils have not been reported. Therefore, we studied the effects of bafetinib on functional and mechanistic responses of isolated human eosinophils. Abstract We assessed the capacity of recombinant human granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) and multilineage (Multi)-CSF to induce release of granulocyte-CSF (G-CSF) by highly purified peripheral blood monocyte (Mo) preparations. Our results reveal that GM-CSF and Multi-CSF, either alone or in a synergistic concert, activate Mo to transcribe G-CSF messenger (m) RNA and release biologically active G- CSF protein into their culture supernatants. G-CSF had no regulatory effect on Mo expression of cytoplasmic G-CSF mRNA levels and G-CSF protein secretion by itself. Abstract Abstract 2366 Colony-stimulating factor-1 (CSF-1 or M-CSF) triggers the differentiation of human peripheral blood monocytes into macrophages through and integrated cytokine/transcription factors circuitry. Using microarray profiling to explore the role of microRNAs (miRNAs) in this molecular circuitry, we identified the down-regulation of miR-142-3p in human macrophages obtained from CSF-1-treated monocytes. We show that miR-142-3p is a repressor of the transcription factor EGR2 (Early Growth Response 2) through direct 3'UTR interactions. Transmission of knowledge in Venetian fourteenth-century chronicles

The doctoral thesis analyzes eight Venetian chronicles written c. 1340–1390. It looks into the transmission of these texts by examining their mutual relationships and by reconstructing the textual tradition of individual works. The research was conducted by using the book historical method in which an individual volume is examined from the perspective of textual history, its physical features and ownership history to give a global view of its genesis and functions. The method combines textual criticism and comparative textual analysis with codicological and palaeographical research. The results show that Venetian fourteenth-century chronicles generally had a limited early circulation. This …
