Kinetics of domain growth in finite Ising strips
1992
Abstract Monte Carlo simulations are presented for the kinetics of ordering of the two-dimensional nearest-neighbor Ising models in an L x M geometry with two free boundaries of length M ⪢ L . This geometry models a “terrace” of width L on regularly stepped surfaces, adatoms adsorbed on neighboring terraces being assumed to be noninteracting. Starting out with an initially random configuration of the atoms in the lattice gas at coverage θ = 1 2 in the square lattice, quenching experiments to temperatures in the range 0.85⩽ T / T c ⩽1 are considered, assuming a dynamics of the Glauber model type (no conservation laws being operative). At T c the ordering behavior can be described in terms of…
Quantum dynamics of the intensity-dependent Tavis-Cummings model
1999
An exactly solvable generalization of the intensity-dependent Jaynes-Cummings model to the case of N0 atoms is introduced together with its solution. The quantum dynamics of the model including the squeezing properties of the su(1,1) Perelomov and Glauber coherent states is investigated. The cases of one and two atoms present in the cavity are analysed in detail. These two cases are compared in the situation when the atomic subsystem is initially prepared in the ground state, the Dicke state and the state of thermal equilibrium.
Centrality-dependent forward J/ψ production in high energy proton-nucleus collisions
2016
Forward $J/\psi$ production and suppression in high energy proton-nucleus collisions can be an important probe of gluon saturation. In an earlier work we studied this process in the Color Glass Condensate framework and showed that using the Glauber approach to extrapolate the dipole cross section of a proton to a nucleus leads to results closer to experimental data than previous calculations in this framework. Here we investigate the centrality dependence of the nuclear suppression in this model and show a comparison of our results with recent LHC data.
Measurement of the low-energy antideuteron inelastic cross section
2020
In this Letter, we report the first measurement of the inelastic cross section for antideuteron-nucleus interactions at low particle momenta, covering a range of $0.3 \leq p < 4$ GeV/$c$. The measurement is carried out using p-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon-nucleon pair of $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}}$ = 5.02 TeV, recorded with the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC and utilizing the detector material as an absorber for antideuterons and antiprotons. The extracted raw primary antiparticle-to-particle ratios are compared to the results from detailed ALICE simulations based on the GEANT4 toolkit for the propagation of antiparticles through the detector material. The analysis of th…

2019
The paper analyses three cases of feminine solitude as depicted in three novels belonging to the Realist and Naturalist movement. Flaubert’s Emma Bovary considers herself superior to the others who neither understand her nor see who she really is, and thus suffers during all her life and finally commits suicide. Zola’s Hélène Grandjean (One Page of Love) is not aware of the falseness of her life mode of an honest widow incapable of having a passionate love affair, and this unawareness costs her the life of her child. Maupassant’s Christiane Andermatt (Mont-Oriol), an aristocrat married to a Jewish banker in order to repair the family’s fortune, has an affair with a lady-killer who abandons …
The Ballad of Sexual Dependency (1981-1996).
Dynamics of a harmonic oscillator coupled with a Glauber amplifier
2020
A system of a quantum harmonic oscillator bi-linearly coupled with a Glauber amplifier is analysed considering a time-dependent Hamiltonian model. The Hilbert space of this system may be exactly subdivided into invariant finite dimensional subspaces. Resorting to the Jordan-Schwinger map, the dynamical problem within each invariant subspace may be traced back to an effective SU(2) Hamiltonian model expressed in terms of spin variables only. This circumstance allows to analytically solve the dynamical problem and thus to study the exact dynamics of the oscillator-amplifier system under specific time-dependent scenarios. Peculiar physical effects are brought to light by comparing the dynamics…
