Autentiskie video materiāli skolēnu klausīšanās prasmju pilnveidei angļu valodas stundās 8. klasē

2022

Diplomdarbā tiek pētīts, kā iespējams pilnveidot 8. klases skolēnu klausīšanās prasmes, izmantojot autentiskos video materiālus angļu valodas stundās. Darbs sniedz ieskatu klausīšanās prasmju nozīmē komunikācijā un autentisko video materiālu izmantošanā angļu valodas stundās. Izvēlētā pētījuma metode bija gadījuma pētījums kādā no Latvijas vidusskolām.

Galectin-3 and Lp(a) plasma concentrations and advanced carotid atherosclerotic plaques: Correlation with plaque presence and features

2019

Introduction: atherosclerosis is one of the leading causes of death and morbidity worldwide. It consists in the development of plaques in the intima media layers of arteries due to lipid accumulation and oxidation, causing massive inflammation. We aim to better understand the role of Galectin-3 (Gal-3) and Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] as possible peripheral markers of plaque presence. Methods: Gal-3 and Lp(a) were measured in plasma samples from 99 patients undergoing carotid endarterectomy and 78 healthy controls, by immunometric assays. Plaques were classified histologically, according to the American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines as type Va (fibroatheroma), Vb (mainly calcific) and Vl (co…

Cryopreserved platelets: from in vitro thrombin generation potential to in vivo safety

2015

Abstract Background: Cryopreservation of platelets (PLTs) at -80°C with dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) can extend their shelf life up to 2 years. Cryopreserved PLTs (CRY-PLTs) are reported to have a greater in vivo hemostatic effect than liquid-stored PLTs. Aims of this study were: i. to evaluate the thrombin generation potential of buffy coat derived cryopreserved PLTs (CRY- BC PLT) in comparison with fresh buffy coat derived platelets concentrates; ii. to determine the efficacy and safety of CRY-PLTs transfusion in hematological patients with severe thrombocytopenia. Materials and methods: BC PLTs were obtained from 5 buffy coats and pooled. The final PLTs concentrates were leukoreduced by fil…

Monoclonal antibody TeM 106 reacts with a tonoplast intrinsic protein of 106 kDa from Brassica oleracea L

1995

A monoclonal antibody, designated TeM 106, that recognizes an intrinsic protein from the vacuole membrane (tonoplast) of cauliflower (Brassica oleracea L. var. botrytis) is described. Mice were immunized with a tonoplast fraction that had been purified from differentiating meristematic cells from the cauliflower head. Hybridomas were generated and screened by means of Enzyme Linked Immuno Sorbent Assays for differential reactivity to tonoplast over non-related proteins (bovine serum albumin). One out of 14 reactive murine clones was selected on the basis of its stability, secretory efficiency, and high affinity of the secreted antibodies. TeM 106 is an IgM which was shown by indirect immuno…

ANMCO/ELAS/SIBioC Consensus Document: Biomarkers in heart failure

2017

Abstract Biomarkers have dramatically impacted the way heart failure (HF) patients are evaluated and managed. A biomarker is a characteristic that is objectively measured and evaluated as an indicator of normal biological or pathogenic processes, or pharmacological responses to a therapeutic intervention. Natriuretic peptides [B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) and N-terminal proBNP] are the gold standard biomarkers in determining the diagnosis and prognosis of HF, and a natriuretic peptide-guided HF management looks promising. In the last few years, an array of additional biomarkers has emerged, each reflecting different pathophysiological processes in the development and progression of HF: …

Screening for inhibitors of HIV gp120-CD4 binding using an enzyme-linked immunoabsorbent assay.

1993

Binding of the HIV-1 major viral surface glycoprotein, gp120, to the major cell receptor, CD4, is essential for HIV infection of the target cell and syncytium formation. An enzyme-linked immunoassay using solid phase CD4 was used to quantitate the binding of HIV-1 gp120 to CD4, and to assess the activity and mechanism of action of putative inhibitors of that reaction. Monoclonal antibodies to the gp120 binding site on CD4 (e.g., Leu3a) blocked gp120 binding, while monoclonal antibodies to other portions of CD4 (e.g. OKT4) did not. Both aurintricarboxylic acid and sulfonated polysaccharides (e.g., dextran sulfate) blocked CD4-gp120 interactions by binding to the CD4 component. Human polyclon…

Effects of soy isoflavones on endothelial function in healthy postmenopausal women.

2005

Objective: To evaluate the effects of soy isoflavone administration on endothelial function in healthy postmenopausal women. Design: Sixty naturally postmenopausal women were randomly assigned to receive isoflavone or placebo tablets for 6 months. Endothelium-dependent vasodilatation was measured by brachial reactivity technique along with levels of plasma soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1), E-selectin, P-selectin and soluble thrombomodulin, von Willebrand factor, and tissue plasminogen activator. Differences between endothelium-dependent and endothelium-independent vasodilatation were assessed by evaluating brachial reactivity par…

IgG anti-endothelial cell antibodies (AECA) in type I diabetes mellitus; induction of adhesion molecule expression in cultured endothelial cells

1998

SUMMARYAECA were detected in 25 of 71 patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus and in two of 33 healthy subjects. Patients with diabetes of < 1 year duration and those with long-standing disease had the highest levels of these antibodies. Inhibition studies suggest that at least part of the AECA reactivity is due to cross-reactive anti-ssDNA antibodies. AECA-positive sera were able to increase intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) and E-selectin on human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC). Increased binding of polymorphonuclear (PMN) cells was also found to accompany raised E-selectin expression. Soluble ICAM-1 and E-selectin were also found to be increased in the sera of AE…
