Hilja Henkivartija : Hilja Ilveskeron henkilöhahmo Leena Lehtolaisen romaaneissa Henkivartija, Paholaisen pennut ja Oikeuden jalopeura

2013

Operator product expansion coefficients in the exact renormalization group formalism

2020

We study how to compute the operator product expansion coefficients in the exact renormalization group formalism. After discussing possible strategies, we consider some examples explicitly, within the $\epsilon$-expansions, for the Wilson-Fisher fixed points of the real scalar theory in $d=4-\epsilon$ dimensions and the Lee-Yang model in $d=6-\epsilon$ dimensions. Finally we discuss how our formalism may be extended beyond perturbation theory.

The intestinal microbiota influences mammalian host physiology in health and disease locally in the gut but also in organs devoid of direct contact with bacteria such as the liver and brain. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) released by microbes are increasingly recognized for their potential role as biological shuttle systems for inter‐kingdom communication. However, physiologically relevant evidence for the transfer of functional biomolecules from the intestinal microbiota to individual host cells by OMVs in vivo is scarce. By introducing Escherichia coli engineered to express Cre‐recombinase (E. coli Cre) into mice with a Rosa26.tdTomato‐reporter background, …

Les " mausolées " de Salone et de Split

2012

Although abbot Martin is supposed to have collected and brought it all to Rome, as pope John IV had asked him to, the relics of salonitan martyrs are venerated since the Early Middle Ages in Split cathedral, settled in the octagon of Diocletian’s Palace, in the ager of Salona, former capital of Roman Dalmatia. Both main martyrs of the ancient city, first bishop Domnio and Anastasius fullonicus, are the medieval patrons of the cathedral beside Virgin Mary. Anastasius had previously been buried in a private mausoleum on the necropolis of Marusinac - mausoleum which gave birth to a pilgrimage ecclesial complex including a basilica gemina. Having first looked for graves ad sanctos at Manastirin…

Le monastère Saint-Pierre d’Osor (île de Cres) : neuvième campagne d’études archéologiques

2015

During the 2014 campaign exhaustive excavations of the early medieval mausoleum and monastic tombs situated between the mausoleum and the bell tower south of the abbey church of St Peter in Osor were completed. The results of the excavation of the interior of the reduced church revealed several floor levels that are contemporary to the Romanesque basilica, as well as the foundations of the Romanesque chancel screen situated in front of the north apse, and the presence of many burials. Some of them can be identified as privileged tombs, due to their position and their contents. Several floor levels corresponding to the phases anterior to the Romanesque church were also discovered, although i…

On Forced Migrations: Transnational Realities and National Narratives in Post-1945 (West) Germany

2014

This article examines tensions between the transnational realities of the extensive forced migrations that accompanied the end of the Second World War in Europe and the nationally focused public portrayals of those forced migrations that have prevailed in individual European countries since the war. The article does so through a case study of West Germany, which became home to some eight million forced migrants defined as ethnic Germans. It argues that a nationally oriented, highly selective public narrative of the forced migrations soon emerged in the Federal Republic, a narrative that stressed German suffering, relativized German crimes, and, crucially, elided differences among the forced…

Print and online newspapers as material artefacts

2014

Traditional newspaper journalism is in a state of crisis and there have been several attempts to overcome this. Many discourses have reiterated the triumphal march of a digital revolution in newspaper journalism and anticipated the end of the print newspaper. This moment calls for an in-depth analysis of reader habits of news consumption and use in order to understand the audiences for journalistic output and their relationship with the journalistic objects. In this study, we adopt a multi-method approach, integrating (1) qualitative content analysis of student essays dealing with the physicality of printed and online newspapers, (2) ethnographic observation of the use practices of readers…

Frequent coinfection of cells explains functional in vivo complementation between cytomegalovirus variants in the multiply infected host.

2005

In contrast to many other virus infections, primary cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection does not fully protect against reinfection. Accordingly, clinical data have revealed a coexistence of multiple human CMV variants/ strains in individual patients. Notably, the phenomenon of multiple infection was found to correlate with increased virus load and severity of CMV disease. Although of obvious medical relevance, the mechanism underlying this correlation is unknown. A weak immune response in an individual could be responsible for a more severe disease and for multiple infections. Alternatively, synergistic contributions of variants that differ in their biological properties can lead to qualitative…

T helper 1 response is correlated with widespread pain, fatigue, sleeping disorders and the quality of life in patients with fibromyalgia and is modu…

2019

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) has been used as treatment for different clinical conditions, including fibromyalgia (FM). HBOT modulates brain activity, ameliorates chronic pain and modifies the ratio of immune cells. Clinical studies have provided evidence that FM is associated with immune system dysregulation. In the present study we aimed to evaluate the effect of HBOT on immune system and on the quality of life-style of FM patients.Patients with primary FM and controls were treated with HBOT. Physical, emotional and social assessment, quality of sleep, tender points, intensity score, WPI and symptom severity were evaluated before and after HBOT. Furthermore, a characterisation of CD4 …
