Cu Polyimidazole Thioether Complexes : Comparison of RDF's Reconstructed from XAFS and XRD Data

Radial distribution functions (RDF) reconstructed from XAFS data (Cu K-edge at low and room temperatures) are compared with RDF's constructed from XRD crystallographic data of Cu polyimidazole thioether complexes. New EDA software package possibilities are used to reconstruct RDFs: (i) model independent RDF reconstruction, and (ii) multi shell - cumulant fitting. RDF's obtained from XRD data are broadened with Debye Waller factors calculated from XAFS. This way the structural disorder (set of distances) and thermal (vibrational) disorder are quantitatively taken into account in each RDF reconstruction approach. Abstract Objective The aim of this study was to explore patients' narratives of patient education in physiotherapy after a total hip arthroplasty (THA). Method The data was collected via open thematic interviews from ten patients who had had a primary THA. The interviews were analysed using a qualitative, narrative method. Low energy electrons and ultra-soft X-rays irradiation of plasmid DNA. Technical innovations

Abstract In this paper we present in a first part the latest results of our group which are in relation with the study of DNA damages inflicted by low energy electrons (0-20 eV) in ultra-high vacuum as well as in air under atmospheric conditions. Abstract A photosystem (PS) I holocomplex was isolated from Pleurochloris meiringensis Vischer (Xanthophyceae) using sucrose density centrifugation. This complex exhibited a fluorescence emission maximum at 715 nm, which is in accordance with the long wavelength emission of whole cells. The complex was further dissociated into a core complex and a light-harvesting protein (LHC I). The core protein contains mainly Chl a and β-carotene, is 8.25 times enriched in P700 and has its main emission maximum at 715 nm. Nonlinear refraction and absorption of spectrally tuneable picosecond pulses in carbon disulfide

Abstract We analyze the spectral dependence of the nonlinear refractive index and nonlinear absorption coefficient of carbon disulfide (CS2) in the spectral range of 400–1100 nm using picosecond laser pulses. An increase of the nonlinear refractive index of CS2 at the shorter wavelength region compared with the near infrared region (9 × 10−14 cm2 W−1 (λ = 700 nm) and 4 × 10−14 cm2 W−1 (λ = 1000 nm), respectively) follows by a decrease of this parameter at the wavelengths below 600 nm. We compare the spectral dependences of the lower- and higher-order nonlinear absorption coefficients in carbon disulfide. Electron-phonon heat transport in degenerate Si at low temperatures

The thermal conductance between electrons and phonons in a solid state system becomes comparatively weak at sub‐Kelvin temperatures. In this work five batches of thin heavily doped silicon‐on‐insulator samples with the electron concentration in the range of 2.0–16 × 1019 cm–3 were studied. Below 1 K all the samples were in the dirty limit of the thermal electron‐phonon coupling, where the thermal phonon wavelength exceeds the electron mean free path. The heat flow between electrons and phonons is proportional to (T6e–T6ph), where Te (Tph) is the electron (phonon) temperature. Fluoride-Induced Negative Differential Resistance in Nanopores: Experimental and Theoretical Characterization

We describe experimentally and theoretically the fluoride-induced negative differential resistance (NDR) phenomena observed in conical nanopores operating in aqueous electrolyte solutions. The threshold voltage switching occurs around 1 V and leads to sharp current drops in the nA range with a peak-to-valley ratio close to 10. The experimental characterization of the NDR effect with single pore and multipore samples concern different pore radii, charge concentrations, scan rates, salt concentrations, solvents, and cations. Finely tunable laser based on a bulk silicon wafer for gas sensing applications

In this work a very simple continuously tunable laser based on an erbium ring cavity and a silicon wafer is presented. This laser can be tuned with very fine steps, which is a compulsory characteristic for gas sensing applications. Moreover the laser is free of mode hopping within a spectral range sufficiently wide to match one of the ro-vibrational lines of a target molecule. Here the proposed laser reached, at ∼1530 nm, a continuous tuning range of around 950 pm (>100 GHz) before mode hopping occurred, when a silicon wafer of 355 μm thickness was used.
