Investigation of the Na2O/Ag2O ratio on the synthesis conditions and properties of the 80TeO2–10ZnO–[(10−x)Na2O–xAg2O] glasses

International audience; Properties of the tellurite glasses 80TeO2–10ZnO–[(10−x)Na2O–xAg2O] are investigated as a function of the substitution ratio x between Na2O and Ag2O. One observe that the variation of glass transition temperature decreases monotonously with x and that surface crystallization mechanism is favored. The assignment of the Raman bands and their relation with the underlying glass structure is discussed. While both Na2O and Ag2O oxides act as glass network modifiers, their progressive equimolar substitution does not lead to a meaningful evolution in the structure of the TZ[Na10-xAgx] glass. Dipeptide complexes of the diethyltin(IV) moiety, Et2SnL, have been synthesized, H2L being glycylglycine (H2GlyGly), glycylalanine (H2GlyAla), alanylalanine (H2AlaAla), glycylvaline (H2GlyVal), valylvaline (H2ValVal), glycylmethionine (H2GlyMet), glycyltyrosine (H2GlyTyr). The crystal and molecular structure of the complex Et2SnGlyTyr has been determined by singlecrystal X-ray diffraction. Interaction between the goethite surface and 4-chloro-2-methylphenoxyacetic acid (MCPA) herbicide was studied using density functional theory (DFT) calculations combined with molecular dynamics (MD). The important step made here lies in the use of a periodic DFT method enabling the study of a mineral surface of different protonation states, in strong contrast with previous molecular modeling studies limited to single protonation state corresponding to the point of zero charge. Le but de cette etude est de comparer les resultats de 2 techniques chirurgicales d'abaissement transanal par voie perineale pour maladie de Hirschsprung de forme recto-sigmoidienne. Materiel et Methode: Vingt-et-un patients porteurs de maladie de Hirschsprung de forme recto-sigmoidienne ont ete consecutivement operes entre novembre 1999 et avril 2003 dans les services de Chirurgie Pediatrique de Dijon et Strasbourg. In patients with cervical incompetence, the diagnostic efficiency of abdominal, perineal and vaginal sonography was compared. 73 patients, who were divided into three groups, were examined: Group A (n = 50) control group, Group B (n = 11) normal pregnancies, Group C (n = 12) pregnancies with demonstrated cervical incompetence. According to our results, using vaginal sonography, only the incompetent pregnancies showed significant shortening of the cervical length. Characteristic scans were also obtained (membrane herniation) which were useful in diagnosis and control in the performance of cerclage.

Calcium sulfate hydrates receive significant attention due to numerous large scale industrial applications. There has been a long debate on the possible existence of two gypsum hemi-hydrate polymorphs, denoted alpha- and beta-CaSO(4).0.5H(2)O. In this work, a new crystal structure of calcium sulfate hemi-hydrates is presented, denoted beta-CaSO(4).0.5H(2)O. The structure was solved using powder neutron diffraction data, the space group is P3(1) and the unit cell in a hexagonal setting a = 6.9268(1), c = 12.7565(3) A. [mu-Tris(1,4-bis(tetrazol-1-yl)butane-N4,N4')iron(II)] bis(hexafluorophosphate), [Fe(btzb)(3)](PF6)(2), crystallizes in a three-dimensional 3-fold interlocked structure featuring a sharp two-step spin-crossover behavior. The spin conversion takes place between 164 and 182 K showing a discontinuity at about T-1/2 = 174 K and a hysteresis of about 4 K between T-1/2 and the low-spin state. The spin transition has been independently followed by magnetic susceptibility measurements, Fe-57-Mossbauer spectroscopy, and variable temperature far and midrange FIR spectroscopy. The indices of the wavelength dependency of the haze extinction which were currently determined from measurements of solar radiation and visibility at Mainz, show pronounced seasonal variations. The summer values are in general definitely higher than in winter. There is no connection with the scatter light types of the sky-light or with the meteorological situation.
Screening of hereditary spastic paraplegia patients for alterations at NIPA1 mutational hotspots.

Item does not contain fulltext Mutations in NIPA1 cause hereditary spastic paraplegia type 6 (SPG6 HSP). Sequencing of the whole gene has revealed alterations of either of two nucleotides in eight of nine SPG6 HSP families reported to date. By analysing CpG methylation, we provide a mechanistic explanation for a mutational hotspot to underlie frequent alteration of one of these nucleotides. We also developed PCR RFLP assays to detect recurrent NIPA1 changes and screened 101 independent HSP patients, including 45 index patients of autosomal dominant HSP families.
