Can re-regulation of the financial sector strike back public debt?

This paper analyzes the impact of financial sector policy changes on the dynamics of public debt. Using a panel of 89 countries from 1973 to 2005, we find that while the implementation of (large) financial liberalisation policies significantly raises the public debt growth rate, the adoption of financial re-regulation measures leads to a mild reduction of public debt. Looking at the different typologies of financial sector policy changes, we show that stricter banking supervision, privatisations and restrictions to international capital flows contribute to a fast decline of the growth rate of public debt. In this article we present evidence of the long-run effect of trade openness on income per worker for two regions that have followed different liberalization strategies, namely Asia and Latin America. A model that re-examines these questions is estimated for two panels of Asian and Latin American countries over the 1980-2008 period using a novel empirical approach that accounts for endogeneity as well as for the time series properties of the variables involved. Axon caliber and myelin sheath thickness of individual nerve fibers were evaluated in the developing human sural nerve using three different methods of measurement: 1. ocular micrometer evaluation of large fibers, 2. photographic enlargements for evaluating large numbers of nerve fibers of all sizes, and 3. electron microscopic enlargements for more precise measurements in selected nerves. The average axonal diameter doubles from 5 months gestation to about 5 years of age. Large fiber group axons increase, during the same period, by a factor of 3--3.5 with a slight decrease thereafter. Abstract This paper deals with the characterization of a new microparticulate hydrogel obtained by gamma irradiation of α,β-poly[N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-dl-aspartamide] (PHEA). When enzymatic digestion of PHEA hydrogel was evaluated using various concentrations of pepsin and α-chymotrypsin no degradation occurred within 24 h. In-vivo studies showed that this new material is biocompatible after oral administration to rats. PHEA hydrogel was also studied as a system for delivery of diflunisal, an anti-inflammatory drug. Experiments were carried out in the isolated spleen of the rat to study in a lymphoid organ the influence of interleukins (ILs) on noradrenaline release. Spleens were perfused with Tyrode's solution and the overflow of endogenous noradrenaline was determined by HPLC with electrochemical detection. Two different preparations of the rat phrenic nerve-hemidiaphragm (whole nerve-muscle preparation, end-plate preparation) were used for studying synthesis and release of radioactive acetylcholine in the absence and presence of cholinesterase inhibitors. When the whole nerve-muscle preparation (110-180 mg) was incubated with [3H]choline, only small amounts of radioactive acetylcholine were synthesized within the tissue. Electrical nerve stimulation of the whole nerve-muscle preparation produced no increase in tritium outflow. Blank cartridge guns are generally regarded as being harmless and are not considered to be firearms in most countries. A comparison of the legal situations in Germany and Austria concerning weapons is given. There have been several reports of serious injuries and even fatalities due to these weapons. Ballistic experiments show that even unmodified blank cartridge guns and very small calibre weapons can fire wire nails and can inflict potentially fatal injuries even at distances of 50 cm. Two serious injuries inflicted by metal pins fired from a blank cartridge gun and a very small calibre weapon are reported. Mechanisms of Ca2+ liberation at fertilization

The mechanisms underlying the Ca2+ release at fertilization of several animal organisms are reported. Four main classical theories are described, i.e., that of Ca2+ release following simple sperm contact and a G protein stimulation; that of simple sperm contact followed by a tyrosine kinase receptor activation; that of the necessity of introduction by sperm into the egg of molecules for Ca2+ release; and that the molecule introduced into the marine eggs for Ca2+ release is the same Ca2+. Two other mechanisms for Ca2+ release are also illustrated: that of ryanodine receptor stimulation and that of NAADP formation.
