Oligamide mit definierter verzweigung. Lineare und cyclische oligomere. XIV.

1965

Tetraphenylborat in analysenreiner Form gewonnen. In neutralem und alkalischem Medium erleidet es bereits unter milden Bedingungen Polykondensation. The synthesis and chemical properties of the first branched, m…

Paternity testing of endangered species of birds by DNA fingerprinting and random amplified polymorphic DNA fingerprinting

1994

Since 1985 DNA fingerprinting is the method of choice to solve forensic problems such as paternity testing (Jeffreys et al., 1986) or identification of immigration cases (Jeffreys et al., 1985 a, b). Its applicability became evident not only in man but also in many biological problems. Jeffreys’probes 33.15 and 33.6 or Epplen’s oligonucleotide probes were used in DNA fingerprinting of dogs and cats (Jeffreys & Morton, 1987), non-human primates (Weiss, 1989), birds (Longmire et al., 1991, Miyaki et al., 1993), fishes (Schartl et al., 1993) or even plants (Weising et al., 1991). Especially its application in paternity testing turned to account in many species of animals (Lubjuhn et al., 1991,…

Die kristallstruktur von oligo[(2-hydroxy-1,3-phenylen)methylen]en

1984

The crystal structure of three tetranuclear phenolic compounds – 6,6′-bis (2-hydroxy-5-methylbenzyl)-4,4′-dimethyl-2,2′-methylenediphenol (1), 6-(2-hydroxy-3,5-dimethylbenzyl)-6′-(2-hydroxy-5-methylbenzyl)-4,4′-dimethyl-2,2′-methylendiphenol (2), and 6-(3-tert-butyl-2-hydroxy-5-methylbenzyl)-6′-(2-hydroxy-5-methylbenzyl)-4,4′-dimethyl-2,2′-methylene-diphenol (3) –, was determined by single crystal X-ray analysis. Intramolecular hydrogen bonds between all hydroxyl groups of adjacent phenolic units are found for all molecules. They are directed to the opposite end of the molecule by the ortho-methyl or ortho-tert-butyl group in compounds 2 and 3, while no special orientation is found in 1. Th…

Computational cluster validation for microarray data analysis: experimental assessment of Clest, Consensus Clustering, Figure of Merit, Gap Statistic…

2008

Abstract Background Inferring cluster structure in microarray datasets is a fundamental task for the so-called -omic sciences. It is also a fundamental question in Statistics, Data Analysis and Classification, in particular with regard to the prediction of the number of clusters in a dataset, usually established via internal validation measures. Despite the wealth of internal measures available in the literature, new ones have been recently proposed, some of them specifically for microarray data. Results We consider five such measures: Clest, Consensus (Consensus Clustering), FOM (Figure of Merit), Gap (Gap Statistics) and ME (Model Explorer), in addition to the classic WCSS (Within Cluster…

Upper limits on the isotropic gravitational-wave background from Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo's third observing run

2021

We report results of a search for an isotropic gravitational-wave background (GWB) using data from Advanced LIGO's and Advanced Virgo's third observing run (O3) combined with upper limits from the earlier O1 and O2 runs. Unlike in previous observing runs in the advanced detector era, we include Virgo in the search for the GWB. The results are consistent with uncorrelated noise, and therefore we place upper limits on the strength of the GWB. We find that the dimensionless energy density $\Omega_{\rm GW}\leq 5.8\times 10^{-9}$ at the 95% credible level for a flat (frequency-independent) GWB, using a prior which is uniform in the log of the strength of the GWB, with 99% of the sensitivity comi…

Evidence of oxidative stress in very long chain fatty acid--treated oligodendrocytes and potentialization of ROS production using RNA interference-di…

2011

X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD) and pseudo neonatal adrenoleukodystrophy (P-NALD) are neurodegenerative demyelinating diseases resulting from the functional loss of the peroxisomal ATP-binding cassette transporter D (ABCD1) and from single peroxisomal enzyme deficiency (Acyl-CoA oxidase1: ACOX1), respectively. As these proteins are involved in the catabolism of very long chain fatty acids (VLCFA: C24:0, C26:0), X-ALD and P-NALD patients are characterized by the accumulation of VLCFA in plasma and tissues. Since peroxisomes are involved in the metabolism of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitrogen species (RNS), we examined the impact of VLCFA on the oxidative status of 158N murine o…

Status of Advanced Virgo

2017

The LIGO and the Virgo collaborations have recently announced the first detections of Gravitational Waves. Due to their weak amplitude, Gravitational Waves are expected to produce a very small effect on free-falling masses, which undergo a displacement of the order of 10-18 m for a Km-scale mutual distance. This discovery showed that interferometric detectors are suitable to reveal such a feeble effect, and therefore represent a new tool for astronomy, astrophysics and cosmology in the understanding of the Universe. To better reconstruct the position of the Gravitational Wave source and increase the signal-to-noise ratio of the events by means of multiple coincidence, a network of detectors…
