Raman spectrum for the undoped material is presented and the effectivephonon energy of the material is estimated. Based on the obtained results application of rare-earth dopedNaLaF 4 in the field of up-conversion phosphors is evaluated. 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. 1. Dissipative rogue wave generation from a mode-locked fiber laser experiment

2012

Rare events of extremely high optical intensity are experimentally recorded at the output of a mode-locked fiber laser operating in a chaotic multiple-pulse regime. These fluctuations result from ceaseless nonlinear interactions between pulses.

The dynamics of a developing CW supercontinuum: Analytical predictions and experiments

2010

International audience; We show that the development of the supercontinuum spectrum in the quasi-CW regime can be interpreted analytically in terms of Akhmediev Breathers. Theory and experiment are in excellent agreement.

Universal soliton pattern formations in passively mode-locked fiber lasers

2011

International audience; We investigate multiple-soliton pattern formations in a figure-of-eight passively mode-locked fiber laser. Operation in the anomalous dispersion regime with a double-clad fiber amplifier allows generation of up to several hundreds of solitons per round trip. We report the observation of remarkable soliton distributions: soliton gas, soliton liquid, soliton polycrystal, and soliton crystal, thus indicating the universality of such complexes.

Review and comparison of experimental techniques used for determination of thin film electro-optic coefficients

2015

The results of electro-optic coefficient measurements performed with three commonly applied techniques used to assess electro-optic coefficients: the Mach–Zehnder, the Teng–Man, and the attenuated total reflectance technique are reported. It is shown that the signal obtained by the Mach–Zehnder and Teng–Man techniques is strongly influenced by the multiple internal reflection and piezo- and electrostrictive thickness change effects, which in our opinion have not been addressed sufficiently in the literature. A novel approach based on using Abeles matrix formalism is implemented for the retrieval of electro-optic coefficients from experimental data. The measurement results, errors, and compa…

Emergence of spectral incoherent solitons through supercontinuum generation in photonic crystal fibers

2011

International audience; We report an experimental and numerical study of the spontaneous emergence of spectral incoherent solitons through supercontinuum generation in a two zero-dispersionwavelengths photonic crystal fiber. By using a simple experimental setup, we show that the highly nonlinear regime of supercontinuum generation is characterized by the emergence of a spectral incoherent soliton in the low-frequency edge of the supercontinuum spectrum. We show that a transition occurs from the discrete spectral incoherent soliton to its continuous counterpart as the power of the laser is increased. Contrary to conventional solitons, spectral incoherent solitons do not exhibit a confinement…

Preparation and nonlinear optics of monodisperse oligo(1,4-phenyleneethynylene)s

2001

Oligo(1,4-phenyleneethynylene)s 1a−e, with solubilizing propoxy side chains, were prepared by use of Hagihara−Sonogashira coupling reactions. The synthetic strategy was based on a building block system and on the use of trimethylsilyl and triisopropylsilyl protecting groups that could be cleaved selectively. The extension of the conjugation with an increasing number of repeat units provokes a bathochromic shift of the long wavelength absorption and a superlinear increase of the second hyperpolarizability |γ|. The corresponding third harmonic generation (THG) measurements were performed using polystyrene matrices and variable laser wavelengths. We conclude that the conjugation length is much…

Manifestation of Hamiltonian Monodromy in Nonlinear Wave Systems

2011

International audience; We show that the concept of dynamical monodromy plays a natural fundamental role in the spatiotemporal dynamics of counterpropagating nonlinear wave systems. By means of an adiabatic change of the boundary conditions imposed to the wave system, we show that Hamiltonian monodromy manifests itself through the spontaneous formation of a topological phase singularity (2 - or -phase defect) in the nonlinear waves. This manifestation of dynamical Hamiltonian monodromy is illustrated by generic nonlinear wave models. In particular, we predict that its measurement can be realized in a direct way in the framework of a nonlinear optics experiment.

Experimental approach to transverse wave-number selection in cavity nonlinear optics

2004

Spontaneous transverse pattern formation is experimentally studied in a ${\text{BaTiO}}_{3}$ photorefractive oscillator under degenerate four-wave mixing conditions. A near self-imaging resonator of high Fresnel number and quasi-one-dimensional in the transverse plane is used. A fine control technique of the cavity detuning, $\ensuremath{\Omega}$, is described. It allows a precise study of the relation of $\ensuremath{\Omega}$ with the transverse wave number ${k}_{\ensuremath{\perp}}$ of the roll patterns selected by the system. The law ${k}_{\ensuremath{\perp}}^{2}=\ensuremath{-}\ensuremath{\Omega}∕a$ is verified, which evidences that wave-number selection is mainly dictated by the cavity …
