The Role of Liver in Determining Serum Colon-Derived Uremic Solutes.

Evidence has shown that indoxyl sulfate (IS) and p-cresyl sulfate (PCS) may be alternative predictors of clinical outcomes in chronic kidney disease (CKD). Both toxins are derived from the gastrointestinal tract and metabolised in the liver. However, it is unclear whether the liver affects the production of IS and PCS. Here, we explore the association between IS and PCS levels in liver cirrhosis and a CKD-based cohort (N = 115). Method to find the Minimum 1D Linear Gradient Model for Seismic Tomography

The changes in the state of a geophysical medium before a strong earthquake can be found by studying of 3D seismic velocity images constructed for consecutive time windows. A preliminary step is to see changes with time in a minimum 1D model. In this paper we develop a method that finds the parameters of the minimum linear gradient model by applying a two-dimensional Taylor series of the observed data for the seismic ray and by performing least-square minimization for all seismic rays. This allows us to obtain the mean value of the discrete observed variable, close to zero value.

Local uniqueness of the solutions for a singularly perturbed nonlinear nonautonomous transmission problem

Abstract We consider the Laplace equation in a domain of R n , n ≥ 3 , with a small inclusion of size ϵ . On the boundary of the inclusion we define a nonlinear nonautonomous transmission condition. For ϵ small enough one can prove that the problem has solutions. In this paper, we study the local uniqueness of such solutions.

Description of the retention behaviour of solutes in micellar liquid chromatography with organic modifiers: Comparison of two methods

Two methods for the description of the retention behaviour of solutes in micellar liquid chromatography are compared. One of them divides the parameter space into triangular subspaces, fitting a different equation in each subspace. The second method makes use of a unique equation, valid in the whole parameter space. In both cases, equations of the type log k=f (μ, ϕ), and 1/k=f (μ, ϕ), (μ and ϕ are the concentration of surfactant and alcohol, respectively), were used to describe the retention. Stationary–mobile phase distribution coefficient for polystyrene standards

The measured shifts of the retention volume V R of polystyrene (PS) towards lower values in benzene–methanol (Bz–MeOH), and towards higher values in butanone–heptane (But–Hep) are in agreement with our theoretical model, in which both MeOH and But are adsorbed on Lichrospher. This paved way for us to model the chromatographic stationary (s)-phase as MeOH and the mobile (m)-phase as Bz–MeOH, and to calculate the distribution coefficients for PS. For But–Hep, the s-phase has been modeled as But, and the m-phase as But–Hep. Iterative approach to the exponential representation of the time–displacement operator

An iterative method due to Voslamber is reconsidered. It provides successive approximations for the logarithm of the time–displacement operator in quantum mechanics. The procedure may be interpreted, a posteriori, as an infinite re-summation of terms in the so-called Magnus expansion. A recursive generator for higher terms is obtained. From two illustrative examples, a detailed comparative study is carried out between the results of the iterative method and those of the Magnus expansion.

Fractional-order nonlinear hereditariness of tendons and ligaments of the human knee

In this paper the authors introduce a nonlinear model of fractional-order hereditariness used to capture experimental data obtained on human tendons of the knee. Creep and relaxation data on fibrous tissues have been obtained and fitted with logarithmic relations that correspond to power-laws with nonlinear dependence of the coefficients. The use of a proper nonlinear transform allows one to use Boltzmann superposition in the transformed variables yielding a fractional-order model for the nonlinear material hereditariness. Effect ofmconbquark chromomagnetic interaction and on-shell two-loop integrals with two masses

The effect of non-zero c quark mass on b quark HQET Lagrangian, up to 1/mb level, is calculated at two loops. The results are expressed in terms of dilogarithmic functions of mc/mb. This calculation involves on-shell two-loop propagator-type diagrams with two different masses, mb and mc. A general algorithm for reducing such Feynman integrals to the basis of two nontrivial and two trivial integrals is constructed.
