Multiplicity of Solutions to Elliptic Problems Involving the 1-Laplacian with a Critical Gradient Term

2017

Abstract In the present paper we study the Dirichlet problem for an equation involving the 1-Laplacian and a total variation term as reaction. We prove a strong multiplicity result. Namely, we show that for any positive Radon measure concentrated in a set away from the boundary and singular with respect to a certain capacity, there exists an unbounded solution, and measures supported on disjoint sets generate different solutions. These results can be viewed as the analogue for the 1-Laplacian operator of some known multiplicity results which were first obtained by Ireneo Peral, to whom this article is dedicated, and his collaborators.

Coupled fixed point theorems for multi-valued nonlinear contraction mappings in partially ordered metric spaces

2011

Abstract In this paper, we establish two coupled fixed point theorems for multi-valued nonlinear contraction mappings in partially ordered metric spaces. The theorems presented extend some results due to Ciric (2009) [3] . An example is given to illustrate the usability of our results.

Monotonicity and total boundednessin spaces of measurable functions

2017

Abstract We define and study the moduli d(x, 𝓐, D) and i(x, 𝓐,D) related to monotonicity of a given function x of the space L 0(Ω) of real-valued “measurable” functions defined on a linearly ordered set Ω. We extend the definitions to subsets X of L 0(Ω), and we use the obtained quantities, d(X) and i(X), to estimate the Hausdorff measure of noncompactness γ(X) of X. Compactness criteria, in special cases, are obtained.

Solutions and positive solutions for superlinear Robin problems

2019

We consider nonlinear, nonhomogeneous Robin problems with a (p − 1)-superlinear reaction term, which need not satisfy the Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition. We look for positive solutions and prove existence and multiplicity theorems. For the particular case of the p-Laplacian, we prove existence results under a different geometry near the origin. We consider nonlinear, nonhomogeneous Robin problems with a (p − 1)-superlinear reaction term, which need not satisfy the Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition. A multiplicity theorem for parametric superlinear (p,q)-equations

2020

We consider a parametric nonlinear Robin problem driven by the sum of a \(p\)-Laplacian and of a \(q\)-Laplacian (\((p,q)\)-equation). The reaction term is \((p-1)\)-superlinear but need not satisfy the Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition. Using variational tools, together with truncation and comparison techniques and critical groups, we show that for all small values of the parameter, the problem has at least five nontrivial smooth solutions, all with sign information.

$C^{1,}$ regularity for the normalized $p$-Poisson problem

2017

We consider the normalized $p$-Poisson problem $$-^N_p u=f \qquad \text{in}\quad .$$ The normalized $p$-Laplacian $_p^{N}u:=|D u|^{2-p}_p u$ is in non-divergence form and arises for example from stochastic games. We prove $C^{1,}_{loc}$ regularity with nearly optimal $$ for viscosity solutions of this problem. In the case $f\in L^{\infty}\cap C$ and $p>1$ we use methods both from viscosity and weak theory, whereas in the case $f\in L^q\cap C$, $q>\max(n,\frac p2,2)$, and $p>2$ we rely on the tools of nonlinear potential theory.

Algebraic dynamics in O*-algebras: a perturbative approach

2009

In this paper the problem of recovering an algebraic dynamics in a perturbative approach is discussed. The mathematical environment in which the physical problem is considered is that of algebras of unbounded operators endowed with the quasiuniform topology. After some remarks on the domain of the perturbation, conditions are given for the dynamics to exist as the limit of a net of regularized linear maps. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.

On the representation of integers by indefinite binary Hermitian forms

2011

Given an integral indefinite binary Hermitian form f over an imaginary quadratic number field, we give a precise asymptotic equivalent to the number of nonequivalent representations, satisfying some congruence properties, of the rational integers with absolute value at most s by f, as s tends to infinity.

Determinant Bundles over Grassmannians

1989

Denoting by H the Hilbert space of square-integrable Dirac spinor fields on a manifold M, transforming according to a unitary representation p of a gauge group G, we have a linear representation of the group g of gauge transformations in the space H. If ρ is faithful we can consider g as a subgroup of the general linear group GL(H). By constructing representations of GL(H) we automatically obtain representations of g. It turns out that in the case when the dimension d of M is odd, g is contained in a smaller group GLp ⊂ GL(H) which has the property that it perturbs the subspace H+ ⊂ H consisting of eigenvectors of a Dirac operator belonging to positive eigenvalues, by an operator A for whic…
