Global distributions of diazotrophs Gamma-A nifH genes abundance - Depth integrated values computed from a collection of source datasets - Contributi…

2013

The MAREDAT atlas covers 11 types of plankton, ranging in size from bacteria to jellyfish. Together, these plankton groups determine the health and productivity of the global ocean and play a vital role in the global carbon cycle. Working within a uniform and consistent spatial and depth grid (map) of the global ocean, the researchers compiled thousands and tens of thousands of data points to identify regions of plankton abundance and scarcity as well as areas of data abundance and scarcity. At many of the grid points, the MAREDAT team accomplished the difficult conversion from abundance (numbers of organisms) to biomass (carbon mass of organisms). The MAREDAT atlas provides an unprecedente…

Sammenhengen mellom psykologisk resiliens, opplevd tilhørighet, motivasjonsklima og videre deltakelse i organisert idrett: En to-årig prospektiv stud…

2017

Masteroppgave idrettsvitenskap ME517 - Universitetet i Agder 2017 Background and purpose: This study aims to investigate the relationship between psychological resilience, sense of belonging and motivational climate in adolescents involved in organized sports. Second, it seeks to explore whether psychological resilience, sense of belonging and motivational climate could predict further sportparticipation for adolescent two years later. Method: The collection of data for the survey was conducted in spring 2014, and in spring 2016. A total of 961 adolescents, from schools in Agder, Oslo/Akershus and Østfold, completed the questionnaire survey for the study. A common denominator was that they …

Behavioral and Brain Measures of Morphological Processing in Children With and Without Familial Risk for Dyslexia From Pre-school to First Grade

2021

School-age reading skills are associated with and predicted by preschool-age cognitive risk factors for dyslexia, such as deficits in phonological awareness, rapid automatized naming, letter knowledge, and verbal short-term memory. In addition, evidence exists that problems in morphological information processing could be considered a risk factor for dyslexia. In the present study, 27 children at pre-school age and the same 27 children at first grade age performed a morphological awareness task while their brain responses were measured with magnetoencephalography. Our aim was to examine how derivational morphology in Finnish language, and concomitant accuracy and reaction times are associat…

THE MARKET FOR ALTERNATIVE SPECIES OF SHRIMP (PARAPENEUS LONGIROSTRIS) MINIMALLY PROCESSED TO INCREAS THE SHELF LIFE

2012

A reason that has put at the center of attention the crustaceans has been the growing demand for fast food products to which these fishes are particularly suitable. This paper proposes for the first time the use of the species of shrimp Parapeneus longirostris of the Mediterranean sea to realize precooked trays of V range and analyze the evolution of the process of melanosis with respect to commercial products in general coming from the Atlantic Ocean.

Adolescents’ preparedness and motivation across the transition to post-comprehensive education

2017

This longitudinal study aims to test the concept of transition preparedness in the context of educational transitions. The study investigates how adolescents' transition preparedness, conceptualized as their self-efficacy beliefs and their inoculation against setbacks, before an educational transition affect the adolescents' school value and effort related to educational goals after the transition through the effects on achievement goal orientations. Student data from three waves of a longitudinal study are used, first collected in 2004 (before the students' transition from comprehensive school to upper secondary education) and then collected twice after the transition. The students include…

“Sexuality does not belong to the game” : Discourses in Overwatch Community and the Privilege of Belonging

2022

Players can experience a sense of belonging to videogames and the transmedial worlds surrounding them. There nevertheless exist ongoing negotiations over who has the right to belong to these spaces. Multiple works addressing related issues have highlighted that white heterosexual men still maintain the position of power in the majority of game communities (e.g., Consalvo, 2012; Paul, 2018). This position can translate into an ease of belonging while others can find themselves struggling for the right to belong. We examine the transmedial world of Overwatch, an online game, as a place of belonging and non-belonging. Since the game’s launch, two characters have been revealed as queer. In cont…

Part-time special education predicts students' reading self-concept development

2018

Abstract The academic self-concept changes from childhood to early adulthood in relation to experiences of capability in different school tasks and comparison with peers. Students in special education have a lower academic self-concept than their peers do, but it is unclear how part-time special education affects self-concept development. In Finnish schools, part-time special education is learning support that is usually provided for 1–2 h/week in small groups. The main aim of this study was exploring the effects of participation in part-time special education and gender on the level and change in three academic self-concept domains (General School, Mathematics and Reading) between the ages…

Longitudinal genome-wide DNA methylation analysis uncovers persistent early-life DNA methylation changes

2019

[Background] Early life is a period of drastic epigenetic remodeling in which the epigenome is especially sensitive to extrinsic and intrinsic influence. However, the epigenome-wide dynamics of the DNA methylation changes that occur during this period have not been sufficiently characterized in longitudinal studies.
