Influence of nicotine on machined- and anodized-surface implants. Histometric analysis

2017

Background The nicotine may generate a influence on bone repair and longevity of dental implants. This fact makes studies to improve the surface of the implants are constantly conducted. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of subcutaneous nicotine injection in the osseointegration process on different implant surfaces, through histomorphometric analysis. Material and Methods Therefore, twenty-two male rabbits were randomly distributed into two groups according to the subcutaneous injections: (1) nicotine, 3 mg/day/kg and (2) 0.9% NaCI, 3 mL/day/kg, three times a day. Subgroups were then designated - machined and anodized dental implants were installed in the right and left tibia bone…

Use of low dose of rFVIIa (recombinant Factor VII activated) to control late bleeding after percutaneous dilational tracheostomy

2019

Key Clinical Message In our case, the use of a low intravenous bolus dose of rFVIIa (recombinant factor VII activated; 15‐20 mcg/kg) was effective and uneventful in controlling late postprocedural PDT bleeding associated with thrombocytopenia that cannot be corrected and after all other treatments failed.

Preprocessing methods for nodule detection in lung CT

2005

Abstract The use of automatic systems in the analysis of medical images has proven to be very useful to radiologists, especially in the framework of screening programs, in which radiologists make their first diagnosis on the basis of images only, most of those corresponding to healthy patients, and have to distinguish pathological findings from non-pathological ones at an early stage. In particular, we are developing preprocessing methods to be applied for pulmonary nodule Computer Aided Detection in low-dose lung Multi Slice CT (computed tomography) images.

Development of Rat DC by in Vitro Culture of Bone Marrow Cells

1995

Dendritic cells (DC) represent a subpopulation of leukocytes of bone marrow (BM) origin, involved in crucial immunological reactions. DC play a fundamental role in the primary immune response by stimulating quiescent T cells. In this study we describe an in vitro culture system to raise DC from unfractionated bone marrow (BM) cells of LEWIS rats in the presence of low doses of mouse recombinant GM-CSF, that was successfully used in previous work to culture mouse DC1,2,3.

Effects of different doses of doxepin on passive avoidance learning in rats

2013

Background: Studies have shown that Doxepin has anti-inflammatory effects and reduces oxidative stress. Due to the fact that other tricyclic antidepressants have been shown to have neuroprotective effects, this study aimed to investigate the effects of different doses of doxepin on passive avoidance learning in rats. Materials and Methods: Old male Wistar rats were used in this study. Doxepin was administered intraperitoneally (1, 5 and 10 mg/kg) for 21 days. Passive avoidance learning test was used for evaluation of learning and memory. Rats received foot electrical shock on fifteen day, and step through latencies were evaluated one week after the electrical shock in retention phase. Resul…

Multigenerational study of the obesogen effects of bisphenol S after a perinatal exposure in C57BL6/J mice fed a high fat diet.

2021

International audience; Background : Bisphenol S is an endocrine disruptor exhibiting metabolic disturbances, especially following perinatal exposures. To date, no data are available on the obesogen effects of BPS in a mutligenerational issue. Objectives : We investigated obesogen effects of BPS in a multigenerational study by focusing on body weight, adipose tissue and plasma parameters in male and female mice. Methods : Pregnant C57BL6/J mice were exposed to BPS (1.5 μg/kg bw/day ie a human equivalent dose of 0.12 μg/kg bw/day) by drinking water from gestational day 0 to post natal day 21. All offsprings were fed with a high fat diet during 15 weeks. Body weight was monitored weekly and fat…

Low-Dose Aclacinomycin and Intermediate-Dose Cytosine Arabinoside in Relapsed and Refractory Acute Myelogenous Leukemia

1990

Nineteen patients with relapsed or refractory acute myelogenous leukemia were treated with escalating doses of aclacinomycin (ACLA 20–30 mg/m2 daily for 5 days) and intermediate-dose cytosine arabinoside (Ara-C 1 g/m2 twice daily for 4 days). Most patients had received previous therapy with high- or intermediate-dose Ara-C plus mitoxantrone (HAM, IAM) and TAD (6-thioguanine, standard-dose cytosine arabinoside, and daunorubicin). Four patients had had repeated relapses and another three were treated for primary treatment failure following induction with HAM or I AM.
