Accuracy of delivered versus preset minute ventilation of portable emergency ventilators.
1989
The accuracy of delivered minute volume (VE) ventilation of portable emergency ventilators (PEV) was evaluated. Five PEV from three manufacturers were adapted to an artificial lung for varying compliance and resistance. Each PEV was tested in the "no airmix" (pure oxygen) and "airmix" (approximately 60% oxygen) setting at different frequencies and VE. Measurement of delivered VE (VEdel) was made using a pneumotachograph and digital integration of the flow values greater than 1 min (maximal error +/- 2%). Maximal inspiratory pressure (Pinsp) was measured with a transducer. Two PEV from one manufacturer produced severe hyperventilation when used at low VE (i.e., in children). Two other PEV fr…
Clinical and echographical control protocol of haemarthrosis in haemophilia patients with inhibitors: evaluation of the efficacy of recombinant facto…
2008
Summary. The intention of the ‘clinical and echographical protocol of evaluation the efficacy of recombinant activated factor VII in the haemarthrosis’ (EFFISEVEN protocol) was to provide an extensive study of the evolution of haemarthrosis, and second, of its repercussions on the degenerative process of joints. The clinical evaluation of haemarthroses and their evolution is based on a well-established methodology, although very few studies have sought to determine the correlation between pain, mobility and the objective data regarding the haemorrhage. We believe that it is necessary to unify criteria and that the EFFISEVEN protocol may contribute data that improve standards which, in turn…
Psychometric properties of 12-item self-administered World Health Organization disability assessment schedule 2.0 (WHODAS 2.0) among general populati…
2019
WHODAS 2.0 is a unified scale to measuring disability across diseases, countries, and cultures. The objective was to explore the available evidence on the psychometric properties of 12-item self-administered WHODAS 2.0 among a general population and people with non-acute physical causes of disability.Five databases Medline, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, and PsycINFO were searched for papers related to the validity, reliability, responsiveness, minimal clinically important difference or minimal detectable change of 12-item self-administered WHODAS 2.0. In order to avoid missing any potentially relevant studies, the search clauses were left as generic as possible and the refining search was…
Screening of pharmacologic adulterant classes in herbal formulations using voltammetry of microparticles.
2013
A solid state electrochemical method for screening different families of adulterant chemicals illegally added to commercial phytotherapuetic formulations is described. The proposed method, based on the voltammetry of microparticles approach, permits a fast and sensitive way to distinguish between anorexics (amfepramone, fenproporex, sibutramine), benzozodiazepinic anxiolytics (clonazepam, flurazepam, alprazolam, midazolam, medazepam, chlordiazepoxide, diazepam), antidepressants (bupropione, fluoxetine, sertraline, paroxetine), diuretics (hydrochlorothiazide, furosemide, chlortalidone, amiloride, spironolactone), and hypoglycemics (glimepiride, chlorpropamide, glibenclamide) based on charact…
Reference Standards for Software Evaluation
1990
AbstractThe field of automated ECG analysis was one of the earliest topics in Medical Informatics and may be regarded as a model both for computer-assisted medical diagnosis and for evaluating medical diagnostic programs. The CSE project has set reference standards of two kinds: In a broad sense, a standard how to perform a comprehensive evaluation study, in a narrow sense, standards as specific references for evaluating computer ECG programs. The evaluation methodology used within the CSE project is described as a basis for presentation of results which are published elsewhere in this issue.
Multimorbidity and polypharmacy in the elderly: Lessons from REPOSI
2014
none 10 no The dramatic demographic changes that are occurring in the third millennium are modifying the mission of generalist professionals such as primary care physicians and internists. Multiple chronic diseases and the related prescription of multiple medications are becoming typical problems and present many challenges. Unfortunately, the available evidence regarding the efficacy of medications has been generated by clinical trials involving patients completely different from those currently admitted to internal medicine: much younger, affected by a single disease and managed in a highly controlled research environment. Because only registries can provide information on drug effectiven…
Test MetAphAs. Metalinguagem na Avaliação da Afasia
2020
Test MetAphAs.

Thresholds of handgrip strength for all-cause, cancer, and cardiovascular mortality: A systematic review with dose-response meta-analysis.
2022
Background While handgrip strength is associated with all-cause and cause-specific mortality, whether such associations are dose-dependent is largely unknown. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review on the dose-response relationship of handgrip strength with all-cause mortality, cancer, and cardiovascular mortality. Methods The data source included three electronic databases (PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science and Scopus) from inception to 8 February 2022. Prospective cohort studies of healthy adults with objective measures of handgrip strength were included. Two researchers independently screened studies, extracted data, and assessed risk of bias. We used estimates regarding handgrip stren…
